  1. Saw Match Point yesterday. I thought it was a good film though without spoiling it, seemed to veer off in a totally unexpected path towards the end. Still I enjoyed it as I have generally enjoyed the films Scarlett Johannson has been in, and it was good to see some quality British actors such as Brian Cox and Penelope Wilton on the big screen.

    Overall i'd give it 8/10.

Also yesterday I watched Airport. As a big fan of disaster movies, I enjoyed this. I was pleasantly surprised to find that unlike other disaster movies it wasn't directly focused on just the disaster but also spent a good deal of time building up the characters and having alot going on but without making it confusing. I'd recommend it.

    8/10 again.

  2. You've missed out the bit about it being 'in your opinion' Mr Seven.

Seeing as he posted it i'd have thought that was pretty much a given. Or would it have really made any difference to you whether he'd have posted those three pointless words? Seriously, what would be the point of him typing 'this is my opinion' rather than just posting his opinion as it's clear to everyone who isn't an utter moron he's only voicing his opinion. Debate his opinion all you want. You know, make a little discussion about it. Say why in your opinion Me Sevens opinion is bollocks. And don't type 'IMO' when you do it. Just fucking type it. Actually forget that. Just go away. I hate you.
    Brilliant post :D
Yeah, thanks man. You'd think people would click that my posts contain my opinions oddly enough...
Well actually, considering his posts about King Kong (where he presented King Kong being a bad film as fact rather than opinion), I would say that isn't actually a given. But don't let that get in the way of you trying to make yourself look 'cool'.
  3. Currently playing through my birthday games haul.Mario BaseballBurnout: RevengeFootball Manager 2006Before anyone asks how I got Football Manager 2006, I work for SI as most people know, so I've got my copy a bit earlier. It's a good game.Haven't had that much of a chance to play the other two games yet, but since I'm going away for a long weekend and taking the consoles with me, I'm sure I'll get a chance to fully playtest them.

  4. Can't believe I only just noticed this thread.

I tend to watch loads of films at the cinema and on DVD so i'll just go over what i've seen in the past week.

Land of the Dead: It was ok, though I much preferred Dawn of the Dead. I'm never really a fan of the sort of 'post apocalyptic' film where everything is set in darkness for the most part and is quite grim. It also seemed to lack something - the plot just wasn't strong. I'll give it **

Coach Carter: I tend to enjoy sports films, even if they aren't very good, but this was good. The plot was a bit different from the average sports film, and it doesn't have the predictable ending that you'd expect. For this, i'll say ***

Suspicion: Now I'm a huge Hitchcock fan, and generally love classic old films, but this was a surprisingly weak effort from Hitchcock. It took too long to get started (the first half hour of a 90 minute film having no real relevance to the final hour made no sense) and was just quite weak really. Basically it's about a newly married woman who is suspicious that her husband wants to kill her. But of course, he doesn't really. Not one i'd watch again in a hurry. **1/2

Goal!: Again, I love sports films, and I tend to love football films, and this is no exception. The actual footballers in this film were cringe-makingly awful actors, but then what do you expect really. I enjoyed it overall though and would recommend any football fan sees it. ***1/2

Overall, the top 10 films I've seen on the cinema this year are...

    1. Hotel Rwanda

    2. Revenge of the Sith

    3. Crash

    4. Sin City

    5. In Good Company

    6. Downfall

    7. Fantastic Four

    8. Harold and Kumar Get The Munchies

    9. Closer

    10. Million Dollar Baby

An honourable mention though goes to The Spongebob Squarepants Movie. I hadn't actually ever seen it before, but my best mate is a big fan, so we went along and I was in stitches. Really funny film.

Without even the smallest shadow of a doubt, the worst film I've seen this year (and perhaps ever) is Team America: World Police.

  5. Cheers for the tip about where to get the software to play Day of the Tentacle.Played it today and completed it (admittedly i remembered most of the puzzles, even though I got it about 10 years ago).Seems a tad disappointing after all these years.

is that the thing that fixes it or the game itself? If its the game itself i would like to know.
It's the thing that fixes the game

  7. As I mentioned on the IGN Top 100 thread the other day, the adventure game genre like Broken Sword is a sadly neglected one these days. There really needs to be more games like them, but i don't neccessarily think they have to be 3d.

  8. I'm currently playing We Love Katamari - a Japanese game for the PS2.Basically you are a ball that rolls around picking stuff up. You start with picking up drawing pins and stuff and end up picking up stuff like volcanos.Excellent game.

  9. I've got them all except for the 3 mailaway figures (Hogan in red and slightly different coloured Undertaker and Bret Hart).Fantastic figures, but they got a bit crap towards the end in the sense that they just painted over older figures.

  10. I haven't read all the topic because it's late and i'm tired, but there's no way i'd vote BNP, because while they try and say they aren't, they definatly seem highly racist. However, i believe we need to get tougher on kids. In schools, you get kids who hit teachers and basically run amock. And what can you do to discipline then? Nothing. And it needs to change because we are developing a society that is based upon single parents not giving a shit about their kids and expecting teachers to teach them basic morals, when that should be the parents job. The result? A cry for attention and an attitude wherebye they have no respect for anyone but themselves.

  11. Actually Ducky, i don't know how well travelled you are, but you'll find if you go to countries where there are muslim poplations like i have, you'll find that women have to cover up, and take note of the word HAVE to, and men are not allowed to wear shorts. That is being highly inconsiderate to visitors. And if you come back with "that's not true", the fact is that it is true as it's happened to me on numerous occasions while on holiday.Linus - the point i'm trying to make is that there is a blame being made on the caucasian man, but the fact is, the non caucasians are just as bad. Whether you accept it or not.Furthermore, i have found absolutly nobody in my own experienced who has been offended by the term coloured. I infact see it as more polite to refer to someone as the "coloured gentleman" than the "black guy". It's like being offended by saying "the guy with the ginger hair". If i was trying to point someone out, and that was their most distinguishing feature, i'd do it. That's not racism, and to think it is is pathetic. As for Molest. I was watching an old Doctor Who story, and the line "And you promise not to Molest us" was used. These days Molest can infer something sexual, and it just wouldn't have been used in that way in a Dr Who story in the 1960s.

  12. Just like many other words, the 'p' and 'n' words have gone from having innocent meanings (i.e. abbreviations of the nationals of Pakistan and Nigeria) to be used in a hateful manner. This has happened to words such as Gay, Molest, Spastic and many more. However, i really don't see the problem in referring to someone as 'coloured'. I am classed as "White", even though i'm not, and it doesn't bother me. And it seems that alot of people, whether the PC brigade likes it or not, have a serious chip on their shoulder.I have no problem whatsoever with the colour of someone's skin and i don't think people should be judged either way. The only thing that irritates me is hypocritical 'religious' types. The type that quotes their religion, but breaks their own rules when it suits. Whether it be the type who claims to be a Catholic 'to the letter', but breaks many of the Catholic rules, or the type who will come to Britain and enjoy a better standard of living and more freedom, yet spouts anti-British or anti-American bile. The type of person (and there were many) who lived in this country and cheered when the events of September 11th took place. And the biggest and worst piece of hypocricy is that if you go to some Muslim countries, you'll find that there is no way in hell that the people there will change in ANY way to accomodate the beliefs and lifestyle of the average Briton. Non Muslim women still have to cover up etc. Why? We don't outlaw Muslim women from wearing their outfits that you can only see their eyes in. But it amounts to the same thing.Yet in some cases (and lets not tar everyone with the same brush - it's only a small minority of immigrants who are like this) there are calls for Easter and Christmas to be cancelled. Is it not the case that in one part of England, Christmas is now known as Winterfest, or something equally stupid. What right do they have to demand this? Absolutly none. If they are so offended by Christian practices or the practices of any other religion, they shouldn't live in this multi-cultural society. I have absolutly no problem with any religious festivities, because everyone should have the right to celebrate what they believe in.But let's not be one sided - there ARE British people who are totally racist, and see Hindu's, Muslims, Jews etc as a lesser class and 'different' from the rest of us, and it is these people who have caused the whole PC thing to come about. However, there are Muslims who are even worse when it comes to racism. They have huge chips on their shoulder because they expect everyone to be against them, and in some cases, are totally intollerant of anyone who isn't a Muslim. But in the UK, this is just ignored, and i have no idea why.Furthermore, if you look at universities etc in the UK, you'll find there are properly run "Asian clubs". I find that to be racist. Simply because it is making a set definition of who can join. Just like in some clubs, there are "Women only lounges". What would happen if someone decided to set up a "Caucasian Club" at University? There would be an enourmous uproar from Asians. Or if a nightclub, there was a "Men Only Lounge"? That'd be deemed the absolute height of sexism.I personally am friends with alot of Asians. My best mate is Indian (he, incidentally refused to join the Asian Club at University on the grounds that it was racist), and i've got friends from Bangladesh and Pakistan as well. Infact, it's been joked that i'm the 'token' white. Now, primarily, i'm mates with people from India and Bangladesh, as opposed to Pakistan. Now, the guys from India and Bangladesh refer to the people from Pakistan as the "Pakis" or "Hamilton Accies", and they have no bones about it. And the guys from Pakistan don't mind if the people from India and Bangladesh say it. If I was to say it, i'd be severly frowned upon. Similarly, i was walking with 4 of my Asian mates, and a guy who i knew as well as them came up to us, and he was shaking hands and bowing to my mates, but completly ignored me. Why? A matter of race. Is it ok for them to do that? In the scheme of things, it certainly seems to be. However, if he was walking with a selection of Caucasians and i approached them and blanked him and only him, there would be a huge outcry of racism. So in that long rant, i'm trying to say that PC is a complete joke. Racism exists on both sides of the racial fence, but while there are racists who are Caucasian, there are just as many racists living in this country who are Asian. However, at the end of the day, PC only seems to apply to how Caucasians act, and to an extent, PC seems to be a device that exists mostly to the detriment of the Caucasian Male in society. That's not the fault of the Asians, but it's a hypocritical pandering attitude that exists in local councils and in government, because they believe that the minority must be pandered to. And that's what i hate the most, hypocricy. Everyone should be allowed to do what they believe in, as long as people aren't singled out or abused. Christmas doesn't 'single people out', it is just an event that the majority is involved in. The minority still have their events and that should be fine as well.

  13. I think overall it's a pretty fair list for how it's judgedI think alot of people are judging wrestlers like Andre the Giant from his WWF appearances from Wrestlemania 1-6. At that time, there's no doubt he was absolutly lousy, but over the sum of his whole career, he deserves to be placed at 6.I think one of the big problems of this list is not so much who is placed where, but how it's judged. At the end of the day, it seems to be, as someone has already said, a combination of charisma, drawing power and wrestling ability. And in some cases, if a wrestler somehow revolutionised the business in some way. It's a bit unfair to do that if you ask me, and these things cannot be anything but subjective. If it was judged on taking everyone and placing them in the envirnonment of today, Andre wouldnt be anywhere near 6.Wrestling up until the 80s, exceptionally dull by today's standards. All punch/kick/amatuer grapple etc. If you were to put a wrestler like Brock Lesnar into the 1950s with his moveset and with a manager who could do the talking, you'd be looking at these old timers saying he was the greatest wrestler of all time. The quality of wrestling in these days is completly different to what it was back then. We're unquestionably spoilt and over-satiated with what we see these days. In their respective eras, guys like Billy Graham, Andre the Giant, Gorgeous George and Rikidozan were considered great because they were so different. But if you were to replace these guys with modern day counterparts, they'd look totally inferior. It's all because we've come to expect a certain level of performance, that it becomes stale, and we look back fondly at the trend setters of the past as something special and better.I'll probably get slaughtered for this but if you were to take a guy like A-Train or the Big Show and exchange them for Andre the Giant in history, then you'd have one of the first two branded "the benchmark for big man wrestlers". Whereas if you were to put an in-his-prime Andre into todays WWF, you'd think he was an uncharismatic stiff who was only capable of some of the basic moves. It's the same for if you were to replace Billy Graham with Scott Steiner or Triple H, or if you were to swap Rico and Gorgeous George. Also, take the example of George Hackenschmidt or Ed Lewis. Sure, these guys were hard bastards, but if you were to put on a match of theres these days, it'd be boring crap, and they'd be criticised for being terrible. At the end of the day, wrestlers today are superior to their counterparts of the past, but it's because there's a continuing improvement and expectance of performance, alot of wrestlers seem to be poorer. Also, to remain fresh, wrestlers have to strive to be constantly different. We don't tune in to the TV and go "ooh, that guy has entrance music. He will forever be established as a legend". But thats really what happened with Gorgeous George. I think we should be greatful for the wrestling we see on our TVs.
