  1. The Pertwee era was solid in that it had a level of cast and crew consistency the show hadn't seen up to that point or would really see again in the 'Classic' era.

Not too many all time classic stories but at the same time only a handful of poor ones.

  2. The highlight of this month's anti-Cena rage from Fapper Fin:

Rock at this point should have gone into business for himself and slapped Cena hard across the face and told him to "wipe the smile off his stupid face".

Also, anyone who calls Undertaker and Triple H "Undi'" and "Tripper" is a cunt worthy of death.

I was going to comment on this too. Just by the way he wrote that, you can feel that this is Fin Martin's wet dream - someone 'shooting' on Cena.

  3. I'm not the sort of person who won't buy a magazine just because I disagree with the writer's opinion. The regular wanking Fin Martin does over certain wrestlers (Edge and Randy Orton) and bashing of others (Cena, Henry etc) has become part of the weird charm.

Another classic from him this month was that Mark Henry provided 'abysmal' commentary during Big Show vs Bryan. I thought he was a hoot.

Oh, and he warned people not to buy the Cena Sucks t-shirt because Cena himself gets part of the profits.

I can understand one man having his issues with certain wrestlers and even his blind hatred/reluctance to praise them, but it pains me to see the Readers Awards go the way they did.

  4. Dunno if anyone has read this month's Powerslam, but I was shaking my head in despair at a couple of the Year End Awards fan vote results.

Mark Henry coming second in Most Abysmal Wrestler of Year behind you-know-who, despite you-know-who being one half of the fan's match of the year. Unless Fin is just making them up, that's a victory for the power of suggestion.

  5. A lot of these sitcoms can't just be watched as a one off though. If you watch one individual episode of Arrested Development it won't make much sense and you won't enjoy it.

Similarly I remember watching an episode of the Big Bang Theory a few years back and I wasn't remotely impressed, but when I decided to watch them all from the start I enjoyed them far more.

  6. Have you tried the middle?

    No, I haven't. I'll maybe give that a go.

I was in America the other week and there were a couple of sitcoms I hadn't heard of on.

    Happy Endings (with Elisha Cuthbert)

The New Adventures of Old Christine

They seem to get decent (not great) reviews.

Incidentally, anyone looking to get into Parks & Rec really needs to just accept that the first season is an absolute pile of steaming shite. But beyond that they tweak the characters and it becomes fantastic.

  7. I've not watched the US Office since the end of the 09/10 season. The opening scene of last year's season really made me feel as though the show had disappeared up its own arse.

My weekly download schedule for comedies is

    Community

    Parks & Rec

    Always Sunny in Philadelphia

    Big Bang Theory

How I Met Your Mother (which really isn't very funny anymore)

    Modern Family

Any others that I should know about?

  8. The thing is, you just know what the next issue is going to be about.

He'll moan about Cena beating Del Rio, and while I think that's valid he'll take it to the extreme.

He'll also moan about Mark Henry beating Randy Orton, because in his mind, Mark Henry is the same guy who was a midcarder for years. And because he's not a 'WurkR8z' Midcarder who finally made it big like Benoit or Guerrero, he'll be talking about how it's so bad that the WWE have to rely upon Henry and that it shows how bad they are at making stars etc.

All the while, he'll ignore that most people seem to be of the opinion that Henry's win was well booked (as has his push overall), his promo after the match was bang on and that him winning the belt is a refreshing change.

That's the problem with him - he has his favourites and he just won't budge. I personally thought Edge was tiresome.

Also, another issue I have is the way there's no continuity with articles. You can *almost* get away with having the Edge articles spread over a number of months with gaps in between, but leaving out the '5/10/15 years ago' article means that month is completely missed out forever. That article actually meant something, while I doubt many people care about house show results.

  9. Yeah, apparently Cena didn't deliver any of his lines well, and apparently at one point Vince McMahon had to go off script to reprimand Cena for smiling when he should have been serious - that type of crap.

Cena was also criticised for selling going through the table for too long while Punk was doing the first of his promos, yet in the same breath he also criticised him for never selling.

  10. Some pretty shoddy journalism from Fin Martin again in this issue. Not only did he decide to devote most of his analysis of his C.M. Punk article taking shots at John Cena (he's so consumed with Cena hate it's pathetic) but he also mentioned how the crowd were chanting "We Want Wrestling" during the live contract signing before Vince McMahon shouted "I don't give a damn what you people want".

I went and checked that part of the segment again, and just as I thought, the crowd were clearly and loudly chanting "We Want Ice Cream" in reference to the WWF Ice Cream Bars.

    That's not a minor mistake.

  11. I couldn't disagree more about Bridesmaids.

    Absolutely crap.

If you enjoy 'comedy' that involves people shitting in the middle of the street and throwing up on each other than fine, fill yer boots. But I thought this was lowest-common-denominator, chick flick bollocks.

Feel free to read my review in the link below, and disagree with me if you like.

  12. Parks & Recreation has been recommended to me various times, not least on this forum.

Having watched the first three episodes this evening, I have to ask...does it get any better?

I think over the course of three episodes I laughed twice. The main character just seems ridiculously stupid - i.e. so far fetched that she's just not funny. Also, it just seems like a poor knock-off of The US Office.

Hopefully the one similarity it has to The US Office is that it's a slow starter?

    Fingers crossed anyway...

  13. Let's Kill Hitler might be the greatest name for a Dr Who episode possible.

I called the 'twist' moments before it happened so I have a very shallow sense of pride
