  1. Loved the Hasbros. I've got them all except for the Bret Hart & Undertaker mailaways and the Macho Man one from Series 3 that was just the Macho King without the crowd and sceptre and one word different on the back of his trunks.

Had my own federation for years and even kept record books of all wins and losses. If I recall correctly, some of the major moments to note included a mammoth tag team title reign for Yokozuna & Bam Bam Bigelow, The Dragon going on a Tatanka style undefeated streak and Demolition Crush (renamed 'The Crusher' as part of a family of 'Crush' people including 'Kona Crush' (the Crush from the Yellow card series) and 'Crusher Jr' (Japanese Sympathiser Crush)) being the longest reigning world champion, starting as a heel but eventually turning face because of his heroic efforts. Around 1996 time he lost the belt in a massive screwjob to Nailz, who was part of a sort of NWO faction managed by a Marvel figure of Mysterio. The big Hulk Hogan heel turn in that NWO was top babyface Pierroth (from a CMLL series of figures).

Jake Roberts always had a blood feud with Greg Valentine too.

They were a massive part of my childhood, and the rosters would always be supplemented by similarly sized figures from other ranges, like the aforementioned Marvel and DC superhero lines and COPS.

Loved most of the Galoobs as well.

I think for me, the ones who got the pushes were the ones who had figures you could actually get good matches out of. I think the best for that were the Rick Martel and Greg Valentine style moulds, or Galoobs like Arn Anderson. But the ones in the Rick Rude mould didn't do well, nor did the ones with the jumping action. Similarly, the LOD were awkward to play with so never went far, and right at the bottom of the barrell were the Galoobs like Ron Simmons (you could do *nothing* with him, whereas Butch Reed was great) and Michael P.S. Hayes.

Does anyone remember the advert in the WWF Magazine that had all the new figures for 1993 advertised in advance. So even before the Warlord series came out there were pictures going all the way up to the Yellow Carded ones? That was fantastic, though I remember being disappointed that they changed the mould of Shawn Michaels.

And did anyone else manage to get Dusty Rhodes when Series 2 was released in this country? I never did. I searched for the figure for 4 years and remember being quoted $250 from a shop in the USA that was advertised in a WWF Magazine. Then when I got the internet in 1995 I was able to find someone on a newsgroup in Canada to trade with. I sent him a Bret Hart for Dusty. Stupid Canadians.

  2. Interesting topic. It's been some considerable time since I've watched any Carry On films, although I have seen them all at one point or another.

Certainly, the one that got me interested in the series was Abroad, and that would probably still hold up well.

Most are pretty decent; the only ones I remember not liking are Emmanuelle (obviously), England (ditto), Again Doctor and At Your Convenience (the lead Trade Union guy was awful).

Some of them I struggle to remember at all though, like Constable, Teacher & Jack.

I'll throw a shout out to Carry On Spying, as nobody has mentioned that yet, along with Follow That Camel.

But I would say the best is probably Carry On Sergeant. It wasn't being played on anything that happened before, it has a strong cast (in a unique sort of way), and it has one of the only bits that still makes me chuckle to think about (where they attack the sandbags with bayonets).

  3. I know this is a "new figures" thread, but with all the Hasbro talk earlier on - I needed to post this somewhere...

Picked up a great condition, all working parts, barely a paint-chip in sight Hasbro Dusty Rhodes for about

  4. Fuck me, you've actually done all that?! I remember reading the first one and hoping you'd get through a decent amount, but jesus, that's impressive. I'll have a look through some of them for sure.

    Cheers.

Yeah, I just started it for fun but I'll soon be up to date and I'm sure I'll get a sense of achievement having done them all.

Might release it as an ebook or something when it's done; I mean, if the Wife in Space blog can do it...

  5. Recruitment agencies seem to get a bit of a kicking whenever there are threads like this, but surely they get some people into jobs otherwise there's no point in them?

I'm looking for something new; I've got a good CV with a wide range of experience and 'track record' but I find the whole process of looking for jobs a hassle. Surely the point of one of these agencies is that you allow them to come up with potential opportunities for you?

Or am I being incredibly naive?

  6. 1) Instrumental or not, the song was called "Girls In Cars" and they came out the it.

But what they came out to as entrance music was not the song Girls in Cars. It was the instrumental of it and there's no copy of that available online anywhere. But sod it, I've realised I've done the reverse of this with another theme on my list so I'll include it anyway.

And to the post above, 'Greatest' is a totally subjective thing anyway. The article even includes the line "They are of course all my opinion, and I’m fairly sure that some omissions will lead to plenty of disagreement..."

  7. I like the Strike Force theme, but what they used as their actual theme isn't available anywhere and there's only very brief clips of it, so I didn't include it.

They used Girls In Cars as their theme song. Jimmy Hart even feuded with Strike Force over it because he wrote it and they decided to use it.

Real American should be number one. Its the most fitting theme song ever created for a wrestler and probably the most famous. Stunned its not on your list.

They came out to an Instrumental version of Girls in Cars. I don't think they ever came out to the actual song.

Although I don't mind Real American, it's just not one of my favourites, and if it's the most fitting theme song ever created for a wrestler, that wrestler wasn't Hulk Hogan, considering it was made for the US Express.

  8. Here's some you needed in:

B - Brad Armstrong - "Music To Ride A Convertible In The Sun To"

    J - Jimmy Valiant - - "Raised By A Gypsy"

N - New Blackjacks - "The Swinging a Bullrope During The Solo Theme"

    R - Rick Rude - "He's Simply Ravishing"

    S - Sting - "Rattlesnake Whip"

S - Strike Force - "Girls In Cars"

I like the Strike Force theme, but what they used as their actual theme isn't available anywhere and there's only very brief clips of it, so I didn't include it.

The Blackjacks theme doesn't do much for me and Rick Rude's WWF theme is a definite contender.

  9. With all this hoopla over the Fandango theme, it put me in the mood to do a 'Top 40 Best Wrestling Themes of All Time' article on my blog.

    Here's part one - http://stuartreviewsstuff.wordpress.com/20...-time-part-one/

Distinct lack of WCW themes in that first half. Where the fuck are The Armstrongs and Midnight Express themes? I hope for your sake that your putting The Four Horsemen in under T as well, or it's going to be a pretty fucking shoddy list all round! Bossman's late 90s music better than Hard Times? The fact that Real American didn't make the cut, but Big John Studd's and the team of Kenzo and Rene did is fucking inexcusable.

All about opinions. I love the Kenzo Suzuki & Renee Dupree theme, even though I know I shouldn't.

  10. Having just read the PS50 and accompanying 'Explaining the PS50' article, my first instinct was to head to this thread.

I understand Fin Martin doesn't like Cena, and though I knew he wouldn't put him in the PS50, I'd have thought that he might actually say 'This is how we rate people and on that basis, Cena isn't in it', but they don't even bother with that (despite Cena being worthy of a place in there on every possible scale you'd measure a wrestler's ability).

I wonder how much of his readership even care about Ring of Honor, let alone watch it.

Also getting bored of the TNA interviews every month.

The other thing I tire of his the hypocrisy he has about Rosa Mendes. Basically his attitude it "I fancy her, so I can forgive how utterly useless she is".
