  1. I was going to post something about how the Jedi were monsters, but other than all being said before it seems to have become part of the series narrative now. Makes me wonder if the original point might even be made in the new Ghostbusters film since metanalysis and self awareness seem to be ingredients in the 'Hollywood franchise handing algorithm 2020'.

@CoreyVandal Does it hook up to the TV at all? I've been looking for a decent handheld that also has working HDMI output. They seem to be quite hit and miss.

Yep, and I've been told it's easy enough to connect bluetooth controllers as well to make it a full home console. It also accepts microSD's up to 2TB so enough room for... the entirety of gaming history up to 128bit. I think I'm currently pushing 100,000 games across 40 systems and the cards not even a quarter full.

Speaking of boxart, one of the rom loaders automatically scrapes for cover art and displays them in an ipod style side scroll, which is just lovely.

This said I'm not sure how reliable it will be with longterm heavy use, it's still a cheap android at heart so I can't see it lasting forever, but at the moment it's nice to have a fun new gadget to get lost in.

  3. I just picked up a Retroid Pocket 2 on ebay for £80, and I'm shocked at how well the PS1 & Dreamcast emulators work on it. It feels nice enough, the screen is crisp as anything, but the battery life leaves a little to be desired. It also requires a fair bit of fiddling to get the most of of it, but nothing that's too complicated, and it's easy enough to find youtube guides. If you want it to be more 'pick up & play' there are options for that, but tbh half of the fun's been with fiddling and tweaking it. Haven't had much luck with PSP emulation on it, but I'm having too much fun working my way through the original PS1 catalogue to care too much. It also supports ScummVM & DOSbox, so I'm looking forward to getting some classic PC games working on it.

    He's never been a fan.

Tbf he's a kid parrotting what's been drummed into him by every insecure amateur wrestling coach he's had since childhood.

(* I may have some residual bitterness based on my own couple of brief forays into the amateur world.

Dont EVER make the mistake of telling one of those creepy fucks that you like "that Micky mouse wwf bollocks" then let them get their hands on you in any way... )

  5. I'm in complete agreement with Cleetus. I loved Lost, especially the finale. One of my partner's hadn't seen it before so we rewatched it during lockdown, and I really think it's near perfect when binged watched over a couple of months, as opposed to watching it week to week over the course of 6 years. Most of the criticisms I see either read like people who gave up halfway through and skipped to the end, or people who like you say, seem to have almost purposely misunderstood it. It's not high art, it's cheesy TV sci fi inspired by comic books and Star Wars and cryptid conspiracies, and it gave me a hell of a lot more joy to watch than most of the other TV shows people seem to laud.

  6. I've found myself falling down various creepy/crypids/conspiracy rabbitholes over lockdown, and I have to say after various discussions on here over the years I find myself taking check of my mental health, and I'm always a little wary about submerging myself in this stuff if I'll already feeling low.

I got deep into reading everything I could about the Mandela Effect at the beginning of lockdown, and on reflection with everything going on around me I think it genuinely did shake my grip on reality. I don't want to say I was completely convinced, but one in particular really messed with my head, and I was starting to think about it pretty obsessively. Now a few months later and the whole things back to seemingly like people having shitty memories and claiming the whole of reality's changed just to protect their delicate egos.

So yeah, while I wouldn't say having an interest in this stuff has a negative effect on people's mental health, if you are in a bad place this subject matter definitely does seem to have the ability to sneak past the normal logic barriers and make usually easy-to-identify faulty thinking quite seductive. No wonder it's been weaponised in modern politics.

  7. So a few years ago after a rough divorce from my childhood sweetheart I found myself back on the dating scene, with next to no experience, and zero confidence. I was absolutely terrified, but decided I needed to just throw myself out there and go for it. It was a pretty wild couple of years, and I somehow found myself dating a pornstar for a summer, who introduced me to the poly scene. Now a few more years later and I'm just about to celebrate my 3rd anniversary with Charlie (redhead), and coming up to 2 years of being a Thruple with Sydney, and I didn't know it was possible to be this happy.  Xmas's can get a bit pricey, but the birthday's are worth it!

Just tried these and was pretty impressed. Very good texture, held together and they were very burgery. 7 year old didn't notice they were meat free as well, the absolute suckeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer.

I've found that squashing them down a little and giving them the lightest coating of english mustard before frying makes them taste even meatier

  9. Nick Bockwinkel vs Necro Butcher

I was gonna be cheeky and try and get away with one of the Nature Boys, but something in me wants to see this nonsense

Nicole Bass vs Nancy Benoit vs Nikki Bella

My hopes aren't high, but who knows, with the right story this could be fun

    Nasty Boyz vs New Blackjacks

God, this show would be horrible...

lets throw in a UK dark match of Nik Bali vs Nikko Brixton

  10. I think at this rate all the UKFFer's that want Crowbar books should all chip in and buy the international printing rights, that and a printing press probably work out cheaper than the postage they ask for.

  11. My partner's just finished Unladylike: A Grrrl's Guide To Wrestling by Heather Bandenberg and they've been raving about it all day. It's about one of the women who went through Lucha Britannia, and from what little I've read so far it's genuinely funny and much better written than your average wrestling book, probably owing to the author also being a journalist for The Guardian. I'm gonna give it a read a write a proper review, but if anyone's looking for a modern britwres book, or just a women's wrestling book since those a pretty thin on the ground, then it's worth a look.

I also picked up A Fan's Perspective by Oliver Newman for ego and nostalgia reasons. While it's nice to have some of my matches and shows reviewed in book form, the word 'book' is doing a lot of heavy lifting. It's more like a run-on collection of mySpace blogs featuring the results from a whole bunch of britwres shows in the early mid-2000's, mostly from around the West Midlands. There's not so much reviews, just some basic descriptions of stuff that happened, if anyone's read any of Oli's stuff you know what I'm talking about. Other than the reason I bought it I'm not quite sure who it's for or who would want it, but it exists.

  12. So I'm looking to buy a new TV, but I'm getting stuck. Like stuck at the first hurdle. I don't even know how much I should be looking to spend. I've got £500 or so set aside, but I'm also not in a huge rush which leaves me wondering if I'm better saving for longer and going to the next tier up?
It's not a huge room, we're only about 10 feet away from the TV, but we're also reclusive nerds who spend a fair bit of time gaming and watching films. I guess I'm aiming for a home cinema, but that seems to just lead me down an even more daunting and confusing rabbit hole. Soundbars, 2.1, 5.1, projector or screen...? I'm just lost and worried about blowing a fair chunk of cash on something that's not quite right. Any help?

  13. Finally got round to reading Blue Blood on the Matt by Sir Atholl Oakeley.

He certainly thought highly of himself!

I initially started reading it to educate myself on an era of British Wrestling that I was wholly unfamiliar with, but after finishing it I'm left feeling like someone who's tried to learn American wrestling history from Hulk Hogan's book. I'm sure I've learnt something, definitely more than I knew before, but I have no idea how much of it is accurate or trustworthy. But maybe that's just what living through 2020 has done to me.

That said, it was an enjoyable read. Oakeley is candid, but it felt like his words were informed by ego first, politics second, and the truth last. I can say that he tells some fantastic stories, but there is the occasional one that feels entirely constructed just to reach some hackneyed punchline or pun. You get these unintentionally fantastic moments when jarringly reminded of the era certain stories are being told in, such as when he talk's about an outdoor show on an airfield while a hydrogen-filled zeppelin lands, or when someone you'd been following for several chapters goes off to war never to be heard from again. Conversely you get an account of his discovery and training of The French Angel which manages to be simultaneously touching and upsettingly exploitative, told in such heartless language that it leaves you wondering if the publisher had thrown in a couple of chapters of a P.T. Barnum book to pad it out. Between that and his rushed account of his promoting days, in which the claims were starting to reach outlandish levels (such as the 9'3" giant that wrestled for him), the book ends on a bit of a low note in my opinion, but it's such a different and important slice of wrestling history that I can't not recommend it.

  14. Can someone explain to me why Gone Girl is meant to be good? Because Ive just finished watching it and I thought it was so bad it's actually left me angry. Seriously, if it wasnt for Fincher's directing I dont see what makes it any different than one of those shit made-for-tv Hallmark channel films. Just a string badly paced, brutally unsubtle cliches, and caricatures in place of characters, leading to a frustrating non-ending. Sometimes the performances were great, but then at other times they'd veer into cartoons, and for the last 15 minutes it felt like Ben Affleck had completely checked out. It was also incredible bloated and felt like certain points were hammered home 3-4 times when they only needed to be addressed once. I understand the issues in adapting across mediums, and I'll admit that I can see this working a lot better as a novel, but as a film I thought it was just a complete waste of time. This film can just fuck right off!

  15. Seems like the best place to put this....

I just managed to trace my family tree all the way back to Odin.

Well...I was a bit cheeky with it, once I'd managed to trace it back to the famous Mcleod clan I skipped straight to their founder, Olaf The Black, who's lineage can be traced back to the semi-mythical kings of Sweden, who, like most royal family's of the time, claimed to have a divine bloodline. At this point I was mostly just picking and choosing from conflicting historical texts based on what got me back furthest, but eventually found my way all the back to Odin himself.

    So yeah. That's...something.

  16. Im currently treating my GoT withdrawl with these animated lore videos, and found it interesting how much the season 5 one foreshadowed a whole bunch of moments, tactics and motivations that we've just seen play out throughout season 6 www.youtube.com/watch?v=RzWo97BBeOs. Any idea on when this seasons box set will be released? I'll be interested to watch the next installments to see if I can pick out any clues for where the next season will be going.
