  1. “P&J Live in Aberdeen is the biggest indoor arena in Scotland and the fifth biggest in the UK.”

There’s also about 8 castles within a 10 mile radius.

Although considering they had to mute the PDC darts from Aberdeen on the day that Rangers went bust, I’m not sure Drew McIntyre would get the “heroes reception” they’d be hoping for.

  2. If you like random footballers appearing in Hollywood movies, ex Scotland manager Alex McLeish is in Stan & Ollie.

And don’t get me started on Escape To Victory.

  3. Debated whether to put this in here or in the Minor Annoyances (Vol 2) thread. After much internal contemplation I decided it was worthy of the extra expletives.

On TNT’s coverage of Bayern v Man Utd tonight, both the female presenter and Rio Ferdinand referred to the goals as “bangs”. Maybe that’s what the kids call them nowadays but have a fucking word.
“And what about the second bang?!”. It could only have been made worse if Scholes had dabbed at the same time.

    Grow the fuck up.

Apparently the new Celtic shirt, I imagine it will be unpopular with some but I don't mind it except for the black collar. Will look better with the sponsorless version.

Looking at the sponsor I think it’s fake. And going by the Benfica top to the left, it’s probably the Sporting Lisbon kit for next season.

I know it won't be news to most of you here that deafening sirens are expected to sound from mobiles nationwide at 3pm this Sunday, and you probably reckon it's not threadworthy, whatever that means.

But one aspect of the test that I think hasn't (yet) received enough attention is that people living in situations of domestic abuse could easily have their hidden phones discovered if they haven't taken the necessary precaution, which isn't simply putting the phone on silent.

Giffgaff's email to customers included a link to this video by the Refuge charity, showing how to specifically disable emergency alerts, and I hope the information reaches a lot more people who need it. I recall that a member here knew someone going through circumstances that may be relevant, but I forget who it was and whether any resolution occurred.

Unfortunately I think it's inevitable that no matter how well publicised the warning is, some victims are going to be caught out and suffer grim consequences. We can at least do our bit to try and limit the numbers though.

(Oh yeah, and it could be a bad day for people cheating on their partners using a second phone, but I'm sure that doesn't apply to the fine folk of the UKFF.)

I had no idea this was true. Saw someone posting it online and immediately thought of my gullible auntie and…

As far as comments from MrK, without sounding like an arse, I'm not going to read too much into what they said. With all due respect, they're just someone on the internet. How do I know that their story is legit?

I think this is probably a good time for me to politely bow out from the debate.

You’ve demonstrated in this thread that you genuinely don’t have either a filter or a reverse gear.

And everyone is entitled to their opinion. I believe the entire case was politically motivated. The way both Sturgeon and her husband went about essentially trying to bully the police into expediting the case against Salmond was only one part of it.

I think a whole lot will come to light about the SNP and how its been run over the past ten years or so that will shock a lot of people. The fact that the party has been run by a husband and wife team, with one being First Minister and the other being the CEO is absolutely ridiculous to begin with.

Sturgeon left very quickly. And burn-out wasn't the reason. I'm interested to see how it all unfolds down the line.

I wish you’d pick a point and stick to it rather than jumping about and moving the goalposts. I have no issue with your concerns on how the SNP are run.  There is probably some merit in that.

My issue was with the quotes below:

Allegations, it's fair to say, are absolutely ridiculous. It's claims like those, which are so obviously politically motivated, that paint actual legit claims of sexual allegation in a bad light and make people doubt women and so forth.
    ………

They think nothing of using a serious subject like sexual assault to further their own agenda.

That is extremely harsh and unfair on the victims. Unless you believe the women that came forward are not actually victims and are just lying?

As soon as they were made Salmond was right into court to have them dismissed. The SNP did play a blinder there though, because they knew that an unproven was the best he'd get, which means the character assassination was accomplished.

But yeah, a little bit of reading into the background of those claims kinda shows exactly the kind of people who run the SNP. They think nothing of using a serious subject like sexual assault to further their own agenda.

I was debating whether to reply to this. At the end of the day everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I worked with the husband of one of the females involved in the case and I witnessed first hand the effect the case was having on both her and her husband.

I won’t go into any further details as they deserve their privacy but to state her allegation was “so obviously politically motivated”, “paints legit claims of sexual allegation in a bad light”, “makes people doubt women” and using “sexual assault to further her agenda” is incredibly insensitive, offensive and untrue. In my opinion.

I dunno about everyone else, but I always sit down to piss these days. (At home obviously)

I sit down to piss between the hours of 10pm - 8am. The 14 hours in between, I stand. Surely all males are the same??

    * Presuming females sit 24/7.

  10. We’re definitely improving under Ange but I think the second half showed that we’re a long way from competing with the top teams in Europe. And ultimately that’s where we want to be.

Depending on your opinion on whether we can finish 2nd or 3rd in the group, the other result either went our way or it didn’t. Personally I’d have preferred Leipzig to have won.

I'm not sure either of those really qualify as shocking to be honest. The offside is actually quite marginal and VAR is there to address those ones. With his positioning, no real issue there, it's not his job to get out the players way, he has to be focused on the position he wants to take up. That said, I'd agree McLean has had his time at this level, missing a red card and showing the completely wrong player a yellow last season should have been it for him and top level games.

The decision in the Rangers Vs Ross County game WAS shocking. No bias or any conspiracy theory at play, just an awful call.

You’re right about the obstruction not being a shocking “decision” as I think the rules state that play should continue. I guess the word I was looking for on that occasion was “shocking positioning”. He did it a few times in the game and almost got in the way of the ball a few times.

I think it’s fair to call the offside shocking.  A “quite marginal” call is when they need to draw the lines in the Premier League. There was no need for lines to be drawn as there was almost daylight between the defender and Jota.

As you say, VAR should hopefully address incidents like that. My only concern is officiating in Scotland is extremely poor and my fear is the video referee will err on the side of their colleagues whenever possible to cover arse.

  12. The worst part of yesterday’s 9-0 result is a couple of absolutely shocking pieces of officiating are being completely ignored. Our 3rd goal, the referee (McLean who I believe is one of our worst in terms of constantly getting the big decisions wrong) steps across the defender to block him from intercepting the pass.

And then Jota is only the 2 yards offside for our 4th goal. In the grand scheme of things, these mistakes had no bearing on the result, however it’s never a great look, especially when the officials are under so much pressure for a long list of mistakes already this season (including the previous day when Rangers avoided the most obvious red card you’ll ever witness).

    VAR can’t come quick enough.

  13. I tested positive for the 3rd time in 11 months this week. This is definitely the worst I’ve felt though. The previous 2 times were just like a bad cold, whereas just now feels a bit more flu like. I’ve a splitting headache, body aches, muscle spasms, stomach cramps, nauseous and severe fatigue. Whatever this latest strain is, it’s a cracker!

I mean, it’s not the exact example I’d have used. But in principle I wholeheartedly agree.

All of this is nonsense, to the point I don’t even know where to start. I’m not a fan of Rangers or Celtic, but if you honestly think their fans would start flocking to see Cowdenbeath or Albion Rovers in this bizarre scenario, I don’t know what to tell you. Rangers fans continued to support the club when they were demoted to the third division, and Celtic fans are similarly loyal. For a large number of these supporters, their lives are defined by the football club they support.

In regards to area sizes/success, there’s a bit of a difference between…say…the cities of Manchester and Liverpool, and the towns of Cowdenbeath and Coatbridge.

I’m presenting actual facts and figures to you and you’re calling it “nonsense”. I think here ends the debate.

And I don’t think Rangers and Celtic would suddenly start flocking to support Albion Rovers or Cowdenbeath. Much in the same way that Man Utd and Bolton fans didn’t start flocking to Man City in 2008. However over the next 14 years, the size of Man City supporters grows as the next generation of football fans in the area have a more successful option to associate with.

Most likely due to the size of their respective fanbases, no? I mean, they could parachute Luton Town, Venezia, Malaga or Vitória de Guimarães into the English Premiership, but I doubt they'd be seen as an extremely profitable venture. Certainly not in the same way as Celtic, and to a slightly lesser degree Rangers are.

How many of the 20 Premier League teams are owned or controlled by overseas companies/owners? I think the answer suggests that any team in the Premier League is seen as an extremely profitable venture

Well...no. Even if these clubs were in the unlikely scenario of receiving 5-years of Premier League money, neither of these clubs are from a city in which the population would make competing at that level completely unsustainable. The population of Cowdenbeath, is around 12,000; the population of Coatbridge (where Albion Rovers is based) is around 43,000.

I don’t think there’s any correlation between size of surrounding area/attendances and success. Of the top 4 average attendances in the Premier League in 21/22, only one of them (Spurs) qualified for the Champions League and none of them have won a league title in the last 9 seasons.

The prize money in the Premier League is such that ticket money is almost irrelevant anyway.

And if you think Cowdenbeath or Albion Rovers’ support would only be from the immediate area if they were hosting Premier League football and suddenly turning over £200m a year then I think you’re mistaken. Infact, the teams left in Scotland that would suffer the most in lost attendances and support would probably be Rangers and Celtic.

If Rangers and Celtic ever were to move to England, it's very likely that someone would see them as an extremely profitable venture. And that doesn't necessarily mean top-of-the-table success. But it certainly could. And, frankly, fans would demand it. So I'd be inclined to think this would eventually happen.

Likewise, this would be the same for any single club that was suddenly parachuted in to the riches of the premier league. I don’t understand why Rangers and Celtic fans think we’d be so unique.

What a load of ignorant nonsense, highlighted by calling it "the Jock league".

I'm an english, Southampton fan who's lived in Glasgow for 16 years and this sort of self entitled arrogance and ignorance is what they think every english person is like and why the majority of Scottish people fucking hate us.

Cowdenbeath and Albion Rovers have absolutely miniscule fanbases. It would take decades and huge amounts of money and success to turn them into a club the level of say Notts County let alone PL contenders.

You talk about Scottish clubs complaining about the disparity in finances with Premier League clubs. Rangers reached a european final and made nearly a third of the money by doing so that Southampton made for finishing 15th in the Premier League.

SPL winners I believe get £3.25m.

I've already lengthily explained why winning the SPL even for Celtic & Rangers, playing 38 cup finals in one season is a hugely underestimated and overlooked achievement by the "lol scottish football is shit" brigade.

English football is littered with huge clubs in League 2, 1 and the Championship who are much bigger clubs with way bigger budgets than others who go on to win the leagues or get promoted and people accept and understand that's part of football.

    I’m Scottish. And support Celtic.

If you watched the video I imbedded, you’ll see that the average wage at Celtic is roughly 45 x that of Motherwell etc. Celtic or rangers winning the league is not a hugely underestimated and overlooked achievement.  It’s the minimum requirement.
