Wrestlingsnob
This is possibly a daft question - but I am going to ask it anyway............ Â I am going to buy a blu-ray player this week (probably a PS3) & have a question regarding region coding on the discs. Â My understanding is, whilst there is region locking on blu ray discs, it is not as common as it is on normal DVDs. Can anyone tell me if this is correct? If so , is there an easy/quick way to find out what discs are region free? Â Cheers
Paid Members Richie Posted March 20, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted March 20, 2011 I tend to use http://www.axelmusic.com/ to check if a disc is region free or not if I am importing one from abroad. If you are buying a UK playstation 3 and your get blu ray discs in an English shop they will be either Region B or region free so will work in your UK PS3. Some discs do have their region listed on the back cover.
Benoit's missing tooth
Sorry to butt in on your thread but seeing Blu Ray is being discussed - are there any players that will play avi on them as well? If so can anyone recommend me one please
textonly
I'm pretty new to Blu-ray myself, but this site has served me well: http://regionfreemovies.com/ Â It's a constantly updating database dedicated to whether Blu-rays are region locked or not. I don't know thier accuracy rate, but so far, so good for me.
RepoMan
I can vouch for regionfreemovies - used it ever since I got a Blu-ray player and it's never been wrong for me, and that's been a good few years now. Â I would definitely say that I've got more international Blu-rays than I do DVDs, and quite a few of them do state it on there.
Registration_Form
Re: avi, I think quite a few players now have option to plug in a external hard drive  I'm not too clued up on specifics but this LG one seems good.  http://www.amazon.co.uk/LG-BD560-Blu-ray-f...2753&sr=1-2  And this Samsung one..  http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronic...05|prd:13656105  If you have a read about Im sure there are some that you can link up to your pc (DNLA I think..?) andjust stream them from there. RepoMan
I generally play them off a USB stick. I think it's quite common these days.
