  1. I'm really looking forward to the Dark Knight but I'm pissed off with the Heath Ledger hype, it really seems that just because he died after "becomming the character" that people feel afraid to give it a bad review as it may be disrespectful to the dead. Also Batman Begins was shitty, so part of me is thinking I'll not enjoy this as much as everyone else seems to be.

  2. Just watched Sid and Nancy Pretty good film but is very historically unaccurate. Also the guy who plays Johnny Rotten is really annoying and looks nothing like him.

Delicious irony aside...1. It's a dramatisation, not a documentary.2. That's Gary fucking Oldman you're talking about. And anyway, how can you call him "really annoying" when he spends the entire film in character? Surely what you intended to say was that you found the character annoying, not the actor.3. Despite dismissing the movie for its lack of factual accuracy and negative portrayal of several key characters in the story John Lydon has had nothing but good things to say about Oldman's portrayal of Sid.
So Oldman was pulling an Eddie Murphy in that film? ;)
  3. I have no problem with Seven and, to be fair, everyone can be negative. I'm fully aware that there are a million things that can be said against Southland Tales but I really enjoyed it. To be honest I'm just too fucking lazy to explain why I did so. To attempt to condense it; the cast were great and the soundtrack rules.

  4. I think that Hancock loses its unique selling point (sorry to use a term here) due to the fact that more and more comic book adaptations, such as Batman Begins, are trying to push themselves as being more realistic. Therefor a potentially modern take on the superhero genre (in Hancock) almost falls into the "just another comic book movie" catergory with some...me at least.

  5. How many times have you seen THE BIG SHOWDOWN between the good guy and the bad guy which leads to a stupidly unrealistic fight? Brolin was great in it, but that's the point. You're emotionally invested in his character and all of a sudden he's gone. It's jolting and jarring and extremely fucking brave and while in that moment you're like "what the fuck?", it works for the film and especially for Brolin's character. He got lucky and he made mistakes because he's only human. Chigurh told him he wasn't cut out for the game he was playing, and through the fault of himself and others, he lost.

It could've been just a quick thing, but I thought he deserved either an on-screen death or a slight explanation. Still that's just me. I thought In The Valley of Elah was better than both No Country and TWBB tbh.
  6. If you want to be hit over the head with the proverbial bowling pin of ostentatiousness and have everything wrapped up for you in stupid cartoon circumstances, fine. I prefer things to be ambiguous where they can be. The novel of No Country has the exact same treatment of Brolin's character and the same ending, and it's better for it. It's a much stronger film than TWBB, from beginning to end. Jesse James remains better than both though. ;)

I just felt a bit let down with that part as I thought that Brolin was really great in it.Oh yeah I totally disagree with Loki's assessment of Brad Pitt and believe that Jesse James is the better film, just saying that I thought TWBB was better than No Country. In The Valley of Elah was the dark horse which I thought deserved more recognition also.
  7. *Possible spoilers*Continuing the discussion from the last page, I think the problem with No Country was the way Josh Brolin's character became a complete afterthought near the end and I felt kinda robbed of at least a bit of a show down. Then the whole car crash bit just felt really rushed followed by the let-down of a conclusion. With TWBB I can see the argument that Day-Lewis was overbearing, but I considered Paul Dano (hope I got his name right) to be pretty great in it also and was quite shocked that he didn't get the recognition (again, probably because Day-Lewis stole the show as it were). Still, I thought the over the top ending was perfect as it gave the audience the final showdown that No Country didn't and it created quite an unsettling feel, as if Plainview had lost his mind.

  8. Pan's Labyrinth

It looks beautiful visually and contains some fairly convincing acting performances. The stepfather in particular is fantastic and the story is a mixture of a touching tale and a confusing, dark caution.

    Dazed And Confused

I'll confess that I didn't really know what to expect from this but I'm glad I gave it a chance. It's both funny and slightly touching at parts, however it doesn't really have a story per se.

    A Scanner Darkly

I didn't know until after I watched this that it was the same director as in Dazed And Confused. This is totally different in that it's a complex and spiralling commentary on drug abuse and society. Fantastic performances from Robert Downey Jr and Woody Harrelson and it looks absolutely superb. The cell animation style is something that should be used again in the near future.

    Juno

It was very funny and a lot better than I expected it to be. Kinda heartwarming but doesn't leave a huge lasting effect on me that I feel it really should have. The soundtrack is fantastic however.

  9. I don't watch that many films so this year I'm watching 1 a day. So far so good, although I watched 1408 last night and the less said about that the better. Almost definitely one of the worst experiences of my movie watching life. Avoid it.

i watched it a few days ago too and im glad i downloaded it rather than paying any moneydamnn it was shit!
But the post office destruction scene is the best thing going, in fairness. On topic I watched Smokin' Aces, still as good as I remember it and that is rather good. Seriously, I enjoyed it.
  10. God, SD vs Raw 2008 is incredibly awful on the 360. I'm thinking it's gonna be facing a trade in very soon. Now I hate to sound like the total gaming idiot that I am, but how do I shoot that Carlito guy on Dead Rising. I get to him and to the place that black guy tells you to run to...but I can't shoot him. It's really frustrating!
