  1. Or perhaps Zack Gowen. He can't exactly run away...but nothing to hold onto...

I've nothing against anyone thats gay on the board, I mean, I imagine there's a lot of gay wrestling fans out there (men in their pants covered in baby oil grabbing rolling around with each other) but still, that quote is pretty worrying. You're one sick puppy.
  2. No offense to any posters here, but please, if you disagree with someones placing on this (or any) list, please think ahead to have some reason for it, not just because they've beat your faves ;) overall, I think it's probably one of the best lists I've seen, mainly because I agree with the number one pick  Also, I may be in the minority but I have no problem with Andre's number, although admittedly his career was helped by the McMahons when decided to move him from territory to terrtiroy before people got sick of him, he was always over with the fans and even when he was virtually immobile in '87 he still was the guy for Hogan to go over, because there weren't probably all that many people bigger (I don't mean size wise, popularity) than Andre in US wrestling at that time. But hey, I've always liked Andre, so I may be a bit biased, at least I admit it!

  3. Going slightly off the subject something Animal said in a recent interview got me thinking, the last time the Road Warriors were on RAW they had a 3minute match that was supposed to go about 12 minutes, but as usual Austin over-ran his segment with his alcoholic ramblings, LOD's match was suddenly turned into 3 minutes and was then called crap. How can anyone have a good match in three minutes, OK, there are some examples, but seriously, bar a match involving someone like Rosie who probably isn't able to go 15 minutes do to his size, why not let wrestlers do what they're supposed to do and wrestle?Oh, sorry I forgot RAW has to have Austin talking about when, where and how he's going to get drunk for 20 minutes Shane McMahon pretending to be hard for 20 minutes and then Chris Jericho moaning about Austin for 20 minutes, there's an hour take into account advert there left with about 45 minutes to fit the entire RAW roster in...crap.

  4. Quite simply Mo, I get Regals work, you don't. That's not a knock on you but he's got some aspects that makes him stand-out to me whcih don't appeal to you.

Well said, it's like with others, some workers will appeal to others while some don't for instance I can't stomach RVD, but loads of people love him, he just does nothing for him, you don't need a ***** classic to neccesarily enjoy a match or a worker.God, I'm rambling like Tazz now :/
  5. I agree with Si, I've always enjoyed Regal's style, he has a certain style that I enjoy to watch, I could never agree that his matches are rubbish, so in conclusion, I like him, so sue me! ;)

  6. so the bumbling brit may be coming back? do u think he will be as bad as before?

I think that's a bit harsh, Regal was a great worker throughout his WCW run and I've always enjoyed his in ring work in the WWE/WWF, when you consider everything he's been through it's amazing he's still alive. As far as promo's are concerned he's on a different level, his run as WWF Commissioner led to some of the most entertaining things I've seen on WWF programming, he should be brought back as a manager NOW!
  7. Thank God Midnight...erm..LOP brought up having Hogan in the list, I bet there were a lot of people who were to afraid to put hogan in due to his workrate, but as has been said before, it's all about the show and love him or loathe him Hogan was one of the best for drawing fans into his matches. The old arm drops two times and then the pointy finger thing, the hulking up, and this is quite possibly the weirdest thing i've ever said, but here goes...facially when he's selling it looks good, it looks real.Benoit is 10 times the technical wrestler Hogan is, but he does bore a lot of people rigid, is it me or was his in-ring work a lot more passionate up to end of 2000? I used to really like Benoit in WCW, don't get me wrong he still puts on a good match, but something that was there isn't anymore, these days he doesn't seem bothered, that's too harsh, I think I'll just shut up, I'm giving myself a headache  I dunno it's something, I can't put me finger on it though!Anyway onto my top 10!1 - Ric Flair - The greatest wrestler i've ever, ever seen, still main reason I watch RAW.2 - Hulk Hogan - See above! Not going through that again3 - Bret Hart - Great talent, who had that intangiable factor to draw you into a match4 - Ted DiBiase - Possibly greatest heel ever, amazing psychology, brilliant mic skills5 - Arn Anderson - Greatest tag team wrestler of all time, amazing psychology, best ever on the mic, you name it Double A could do it.6 - Steve Austin - Only 2nd to Hogan in drawing fans into a match and he could wrestle!7 - Vader - Greatest heel big man ever, still remember not reading a wrestling mag in 93 when he did the moonsault, talk about raising the bar, hell, I used to go nuts when 'Quake did a dropkick!8 - Dynamite Kid - I've probably only seen about 20 of his matches, but the man is simply amazing, fn great heel too!9 - Kurt Angle - Best US worker active today10 - Jeff Jarrett - I saw this cause a bit of a brouhaha earlier, so I guess I better say something, I first saw JJ in 93 in the WWF with his country star gimmick and I marked for it, Jarrett always entertained me in ring, his 99 WWF and WCW stuff was top-notch, haven't seen much of his NWA stuff, but I guess he's doing OK there, again, somebody may find JJ pants, but I guess it all comes down to personal preferences.Apologies, I am ashamed at my lack of Japanese wrestling  I really must get some tapes.

  8. One of the things that really put me off Michaels was his on-screen tantrums, they just me feel really awkward and uneasy, like a wrestling version of John McEnroe. I can remember first seeing Shawn lose it at SummerSlam 95 when he beat up a ladder, aside from the Sid/Vader matches Terje has mentioned, he was at it again during Mind Games, he was supposed to come off the 2nd rope onto Foley, only Mick wasn't there, so he stormed across the ring after him screamed "COME ON!" and started laying into him until Foley cut him off with a slap to the face. Not to mention the various photographers, camermen etc.. he swore at or flipped off.Didn't Michaels always like to have his matches completely planned out before hand? this could explain his having a fit if something didn't go according to his plans, but isn't a good wrestler supposed to be able to adapt to this sort of thing in a match without throwing a tanturm :/

  9. I think in all fairness Nigel, touching on something we've discussed earlier it's just personal taste, as you are really entertained by Shawn michaels you find it difficult to see him in a bad match, I don't blame you for it, but that doesn't mean he's never been in a bad match, in my opinion I totally agree with redneck that match at armageddon was bleeding awful. Yeah, trips was injured but it was still a bad match, as you said earlier Flair had some awful matches with Von Erich who was out of his head on drugs, look at SummerSlam 92, Bret has said that Davey had been taking drugs that day and got totally lost throughout the match and Bret had to guide him through it, but that match is incredible. If you can personally sit through the Kamala match featured on Shawn Michaels - Hits from the heartbreak kid and say it's a good match then good for you, to me it was a pile of crap, ok, kamala did slap his belly and roar  but that aside it was an awful match.Again, I think the sesame street magic words for the day are 'personal opinions' and 'entertainment' opinions, we all have them, but sometimes they can make our vision a little blurred to others points of view, i'll admit to doing it with some Flair matches, but again, i've seen some people comparing a 54 yr old Flair to a 38? yr old Michaels, it's not possible to do that when Flair was Michaels age today he was having some of the greatest matches i've ever seen.I mentioned it earlier, but I think i'll repeat it, you say only Shawn could carry Sid to a good match, Benoit did it at Fall Brawl 99, hell, Sting did it at Halloween Havoc 93, Goldberg and Sid had some decent bouts in 99, Vader pulled a good match out of Sid at In Your House - Buried Alive. Also, I thought Michaels made a pretty bad face, and, this is just my opinion, his whole character was based on a male stripper, hence the MSG96 reaction, it's not something that could appeal to a large population of Males, I'm not knocking what he did in the ring, but seeing him dancing and taking his clothes off and fiddling with his hair, could have put a lot of fans off him and they lost interest there. I'm not talking about 'smart' (I hate that word) fans just any fan in general thats flicking through the boob tube with a can of beer in one hand and a porno mag in the other, and unless that porno mag was playgirl I don't think he's gonna be to interested in Michaels, unless he's thinking 'God, I want to see this prick get his ass kicked' that's what i've always seen as being Michaels major flaw as a babyface.Sensible discussions, RULE!

  10. I took so long to post, that all these other points came up!I'd have to say that Sting v. Vader Superbrawl 3 was superior to SummerSlam 96, which I think was ruined due to all the re-starts (but we won't go into that lol)I may be alone but I preferred Sid v Hart at In Your House - It's Time (stupid name) to the Survivor Series 96 match. Still we all know Sid's best match was at Wrestle War 91 :laugh:In all seriousness, where do you guys say benoits match with Sid at Souled Out 2000 stands, or maybe even their match at Fall brawl 99?

  11. For some reason Nigel, everytime I try to post with a quote I get kicked off UKFF hence my non-quotes :/ I suppose it all comes down to personal taste to me I could say that Flair never had a bad match in a certain period, but then I'm biased towards Flair so that wouldn't really be fair, but then Flair did have a passable match with El Gigante, but by no means was it good, I seriously doubt any of the workers we've mentioned could have a good match with a total bum, like say, Billy Gunn  The point i'm making I guess is we're all biased towards certain wrestlers and what others may see as so-so we may see as being quite good, so is the joy of being a fan of a certain grappler.

  12. Great post guys, as was said before wish we could see more of them, as others have said, I to am not a fan of Shawn Michaels the person, but this is a topic regarding Michaels the performer, more specifically a review of his 'From the vault' DVD and any references to his backstage shenanigans and Montreal are pretty fruitless.I may be one of the few who actually enjoyed the 60 min iron man match at WM12, I can't pretend that I didn't enjoy something where I did, although the psychology wasn't featured so much in this match, I felt it made both workers look good and provide a solid wrestling match, but that could just be personal taste as falling of cages, table breaking and chair shots never do much for me anyway.Hence the Shawn Michaels-Diesel match although both guys worked hard (and taking Vachon's leg was pretty bold) it does seem to have lost some of it's shock value due to the recent plethora of hardcore matches recently, but still as Terje said it is only fair to look at it in it's era. And the WWF at that time was as tame as Barney the purple dinosaur, so although as I stated before I'm no fan of these types of matches I have to give this one it's due, for being groundbreaking as far as the WWF of the mid 90's is concerned. To save me babbling on about what has already been said, I'll just go through my opinion of the various topics raised in this discussion. * Regarding Shawn's "back from the dead" kip up always got a rise out of the crowd and in some cases got them back into the match, it's pretty impossible to compare Michaels to Hogan because they were different on so many levels, as regards to Hogan's "hulking up" say what you will about it, but it can still garner a hell of a reaction (WM18) all these years later. Still this isn't about Hogan so i'll say personally Michaels "comeback" never bothered me if anything I thought it added to his match, but I can certainly see Bionic Rednecks point of view. * As for Michaels ring work being similar throughout his matches, as said before Bret had his five moves of doom, hogan had the hulking up, Flair had the flair flop, flip etc.. all these past names are legendary in pro wrestling, so Michaels must be doing something right.Sorry if all I seem to be doing is repeating what has already been said, but dammit, I want to be involved in this as well.I could never say Shawn Michaels had a great match with everyone, because I don't believe anybody is capable of having a great match with anyone at all. In closing, I have to give the devil his due and say that Michaels is/was an outstanding performer and this really goes to show that sometimes sheets/internet do more harm than good, when fans will overlook a wrestlers various in-ring accomplishments (God knows, I've had the moaning about Flair holding back Dean Douglas etc..) but I wish fans would just look at the actual things we see on TV and enjoy it, I wish I could sometimes, but i've been sucked in by the damn insider gossip too :/ wrestling was a lot more fun for me without the net.One last thing, as always a great post Nigel and a great review of the DVD, although I must complain that not mention has been made of the barbershop incident! :p
