  2. This is why I fear getting into comics as a replacement for Wrestling. So many different arcs, confusing histories, new characters taking on the old heroes costume (like Batman I think). I'm a completest by nature, so it would likely cost me a small fortune too.

I subscribed to The Official Marvel Graphic Novel Collection, as I thought it was a fair place to dabble, and have the first 9 books of the series. Any recommendations from these to start with? Are they considered more 'kid friendly' or do they have a decent adult flavor?

    1 The Amazing Spider-Man: Coming Home, Amazing Spider-Man (Volume 2) #30-35

    2 Uncanny X-Men: Dark Phoenix, Uncanny X-Men #129-137

3 Iron Man: Extremis, Iron Man (Volume 4) #1-6

    4 The Ultimates: Super-Human, The Ultimates 1-6

    5 The Amazing Spider-Man: Birth of Venom, The Amazing Spider-Man (Volume 1) #252, 256-259, 300 & Web Of Spider-Man #1

    6 Thor: Reborn, Thor (Volume 3) #1-6

7 Captain America: Winter Soldier, Captain America (Volume 5) #8-9 and #11-14

8 The Incredible Hulk: Silent Screams, The Incredible Hulk (Volume 1) #370-377

    9 Wolverine: Wolverine, Wolverine #1-4

  3. so a couple of weeks ago my sky+ each week had the new series of game of thrones, have i got news for you, house, ncis, lip service, not going out & big bang theory. now they're nearly all finished so all i have is ncis and raw/impact - suggest me something please!

If you like NCIS, then Rizzoli and Isles might be worth a try. I think its on Watch (or some channel like that).

  4. Avengers is right up there, but I think it adds something to it if you have seen the films leading into it, so its a diffcult one to answer. If you aren't too bothered then my top 5 recommendations of 'stand alone' films in no particular order would be:

    Dark Knight

    Avengers

    Iron Man 2

    X Men First Class

    X-Men 3 (last stand?)

  5. The Ed Norton Hulk is so so shit. Easily the worst of the Marvel Universe films.

Even if you didn't like it, that's laughable. I can only assume you haven't seen the likes of Daredevil and Wolverine?

I think it's better than a lot of the other Marvel films, but those two are so spectacularly awful I can't imagine anyone disagreeing on this.

Just out of interest Chest, what aspects of Wolverine didn't you like? I quite enjoyed it, had what I felt was a well cast ensemble group of mutants, so am interested in hearing your opinion. The only gripe I could nit-pick was the bit with the motorbike/helicopter, but even that in a superhero movie I could live with.

I have Spiderman 3 and Daredevil pretty low on the comic film list.

  6. Went to see the Dictator yesterday, not the best SBC film, but was funny enough for a boring Monday night. Didn't seem to be on for very long though. Perhaps joke-wearing-thin for more then 1h30min was a factor.

Noticed a poster for Jaws being re-released in the cinemas over the summer, which i'd love to see on the big screen.

  7. I saw it in 2D (out of choice) how was the 3D?

Its difficult for me to describe, it didn't take away anything or become a distraction, i.e. just doing things for the sake of 3d viewers seeing it 'pop out of the screen'. I guess i'd have to see the 2d to see if 3d added anything. Silly question, but do some 3d versions of films have more footage then their 2d counterparts? Not storyline wise, but are some shots left out, because they are only in to take advantage of 3d?

The fight/battle scenes looked good, the 3d gave it 'deapth'. Still trying not to spoil anything, there were times when 2 mini fights were going on at the same time, so you got a sense of being stood there and 'feeling' that some people were closer to you then others.

Just to counterbalance Mr. Seven's comments, here is what I thought about the 3d Avengers experience, for what its worth. ScarJo, or GwenPal for that matter, don't have quite the assets to take full advantage of 3d.

  8. I saw it in 2D (out of choice) how was the 3D?

  9. I'll not say anything that will spoil it for people, just echo most of the pervious comments. Some real laugh out loud bits (I don't usualy experience in a cinema in the UK, but at one point the audiecne applauded a joke it was that funny), some fine action that the CGI doesn't ruin like it did in some films (the first Transformers) and a damn fine story from start to finish.

There are some fantastic 'character on charater' fights, that reminded me of a street fighter style video game. Again, no names mentioned to avoid spoilers!

I'm just gutted that I can't talk abot it yet with any of my friends, cos i'm the only one that booked the day off work yesterday to watch it. I'm not a huge comic geek, I just prefer a less busy cinema experience.

Spiderman 3D trailer beforehand got me more interested in that then the previous teaser trailer, and the Dark Knight Rises looked great on the big screen too, but was one thats been doing the rounds on the net, so nowt new.

  10. Just finished season 1 of 'Rizzoli and Isles'. Really enjoyed it for what it was, ie nothing too serious. While I don't watch CIS or any of its sister shows, I imagine its like a diet version of that, slightly more fun but focusing more on the autopsies than a show NCIS does (which is more on the investigation side).

I found out about it thanks to having Kate from NCIS as the Isles half. Both lead females are tidy. I think its on Sky channel 'Watch' (but I don't have that so don't know for sure).

  11. If there isn't any cricket/golf or other sports across the various ponds, then they normaly have one of the D-Shows each morning at 7am on SS2. Monday Bottom Line, Tuesday After Burn, Wednesday Vintage, Thursday Experience and Friday sometimes a Raw replay.

  12. Step Brothers is so much better than Anchorman, thats my guess

I'd put them pretty close, sure, but you hear Step Brothers spoken about and quoted way less than you do Anchorman.

For quotes, yep Anchorman prob wins it, but having spent most of my childhood fighting with my brother, it just added a bit more to it for me.

Very long shot for the #1 spot, that was wishful thinking.

    40 Year Old Virgin?

  13. My only bugbear with it is Sarah Wayne Callies, I don't buy her in anything she's been in and sucks everything out of the scenes she is in.

Oh to be in one of those scenes.

You can have her. I don't see what the appeal is.

She's far too thin now. Back in the Prison Break days I would have been on top of it in a New York Minute (I'd have finished up in about a minute too).

  14. I'm about 2/3 way through Sons Of Anarchy Series 4, and its the best season of it so far.

Seems that everything from the first 3 has been slow building up to this season. Superb acting and characters/story development. Don't want to spoil anything, but the way the characters are all interacting or behaving towards eachother as the club seems to be falling apart is gripping.

Can't say enough good things about it. If you haven't seen it, simply put, you must.

  15. I was 14 when it hit the shelves at ASDA, there was no chance the parents would have got it for me but I was so desperate to see it there was no way I was leaving without it. I very nervously spent 30 mins walking around with it memorising a birth date that made me 15 and a half. Cashier couldn't give 2 shits when I eventualy went to pay for it.

Your parents wouldn't let you watch a 15 certificate when you were 14??? What the fuck? Poor sod.

I did used to watch 15/18's and stuff on TV, without them having any problem with it, I think it was just that it was Terminator and they must have judged it by their knowledge of the 1st one (and they wern't therefore going to buy it for me). They had a warped sense of what was or wasn't acceptable.

Funnily enough another film on this list, Commando, they had no problem with me showing to my 6 years old at-the-time brother (I was 17 by then).

The middle brother, only 2 years younger then me had seriously bad nightmares when he was about 6-7 after listening/reading the book-and-tape (remember them?) of Gremlins.
