  1. Well, I got to the 7stone lost level before christmas, but have crept back up to only having lost 6 1/2. Now weighing in at 14stone 4 ish.

The last month has been so depressing for me.

I'm not enjoying my new life in Sweden (which I mentioned on here before I left back in Aug last year), so much so that I have quit a well paid and secure job, to come back to the UK with nothing. Some friends are calling me stupid, but hey-ho, a blokes gotta think of life over money/work sometimes. I have spent much of my free time this year at the appartment, on my own, eating. I am suprised that its only 1/2 a stone I have put back on.

I'll get back into the old routine when I'm home, and need to, I can't afford to out grow the new wardrobe of 'better fitting' clothes I invested in over christmas with the help of some friends. A couple of shirts are already feeling a bit tighter. :(

  2. Skeletors "I'll be back" at the end of Masters of The Universe.

I only saw this again the other day, it made me wonder what the first ever post-credit scene was (and the history of end of film teasers in general). Anyone know any factoids?

I remember Bond used to have 'James Bond will retun in.......' and BTTF 2 had a load of talk at the time about being filmed back-to-back with pt3 IIRC, but whats the history of this now oft used thing in the movies?

I could look on Google, but someone out there must want to show some nerdy knowledge?

  3. 21 Jump street was much funnier than I was expecting it to be, wish I'd have watched it sooner, it had been on the 'will get around to it one day' pile. Saturday was that day.

Worth a look for sure, bit of a different spin on the buddy cop film is the best way I can describe it with 'American Pie' style comedy, but other folks on here might be able to do better at summing it up.

  4. Fingers crossed RED 2 will be as fun as the first though.

I have had the first one to watch for ages now, but I think it slipped from 'must see' status to 'leave for a very rainy day' after hearing some bad reviews (maybe on here) when it came out.

Is the general consensus that its OK, and what is it akin to?

  5. John M - A young Swedish girl started on a placement with my department a couple of years back, her Step-Dad was the MD of the whole UK operation at the time (a well known Truck maker).

She gave me 'Let The Right One In' as an example of a cracking movie made from her home country. Being the twit I am, I returned the sentiment with my copy of Step Bros, because she was fairly young and always told us about childish scraps with her sisters. The next day she came in red-faced. Turns out she had got the whole family together (2 sisters, Mum and aformentioned Step-Dad) and put it on for them all to enjoy. She said she could have died during the bit where he wipes his balls on the drum-kit. Luckily i'm still employed here, by the skin of my teeth though.

Love the choice of name by the way, but you could do with a pic of Mr Matrix with ice cream all over his face (as mashed on there by his daughter Chenny), big grin and all, with a photoshopped santa hat on. Please make my dream come true.

  6. The X-Files,

Loved this when it was first on, and was enjoying the repeats on FTN (old freeview) from Episode 1 back in the early noughties, but when the channel got taken off air, so did the series.

I bought the boxset, and have yet to watch the whole thing from start to finish, which is something I keep promising myself, but newer stuff is top of the 'must watch next' lists at the moment (Son's Of A, True Blood, NCIS, The Office).

I don't want to spoil anything for you, but most series have very good monster of the week episodes. The Moulder/Scully relationship develops nicely all the way through. The wider consipracy storline got a bit confusing, which I am hoping a re-watch will help clear up. It has very feww 'miss' episodes, in my opinion. A few towards the middle/end of its run made me cry, especialy involving Scully, but i'll say no more.

I'll not say too much, but there is a big development in the end cople of seasons (when exactly I can't remember), where it could have gone into 'its not the same anymore' territory, but luckily it didn't.

Its funny watching it now, as alot of bit-part characters are played by people that went on to better things. A few that later would appear in Lost being a good example.

The Lone Gunmen are good in latter series, but didn't see their spin-off show.

I'm suprised the CSM didn't go on to do much (well that I noticed anyway).

  7. Only downside to most of them, if you can even call it that, is that they are quite violent. I want to watch some with my nephew, to get him into Superhero type stuff that he can enjoy with his Uncle, but none are suitable for that so far.

He's only just turned 4, so any recommendations? There is a kids Justice League title I have seen, is that a bit more kid friendly?

  8. Watched a couple of Animated films over the weekend:

Under the Red Hood - Blummin fantastic. I might be in the minority, but I enjoyed this more than The Dark Knight Returns pt1 which was the fist I saw in this recent run. Probably the best I have seen to be honest. I didn't know a great deal about The person under the hood (won't spoil it, just in case), but I just thought the whole thing was awesome from start to finish.

Dr Strange - Again, because of my limited comic knowledge, I don't remember having come across him as a character before, so didn't know the back story. Really enjoyed it, perhaps because it was all new. Some great animation, particularly the battles/magic.

Superman/Batman Public Enemies - OK, not the worse film I have seen this month. I thought too much was going on, with too many characters that I didn't know, that I felt I was getting a bit lost. I was too busy trying to figure out who was who, so lost focus a bit. Lex Luger's costime at the end was pretty good.

So that's these watched so far, next few up are Superman/Batman Apocalypse (I think that follows on from S/B Pub E), and the 2 Hulk vs that I was supposed to have watched already. Then on to the Justice League ones.

  9. Not really sure where to put this, so here will do. Watched the latest Rich Hall doc on BBC 4 last night, about the Amrican Indian and their history and prescense/depiction in film. It was up to par with the others i've seen on the road movie and westerns a while ago. Worth a watch on iPlayer if its on there.

  10. We are all far too late to vote for that pillock that was on last night's Never Mind the Buzzcocks, summit Grimshaw (not Nick) who proclaimed that while the guitarist from U2 was called 'just Edge', the WWF wrestler 'was called The Edge', and 'he used to spit water on the turnbuckle', or 'that could have been Triple X' (SIC).I couldn't bring myself to replay it, so some of the quotes there not 100% accurate.Bellend.

  11. Cheers is being shown on ITV4 from the very beginning, starting this Monday night. I believe that they are planning to show the entire 11 series of it.I've only ever seen a couple of episodes, so I'm going to get on board with this.

Crap, I missed the pilot :( Are they showing it again later in the week?
Its repeated today at 13:50 from what I remember. Have set the DVR for it. Looks like they are going to do the same for that, that they do for Batman and others, play it in the evening, and repeat the next afternoon.
  12. Thanks for your post Steve. Think I do have both 'Hulk vs' cartoons, so will give them a spin. It helps to know they are shorter ones. I don't have Planet Hulk or JL:NF, so will have to search them out.

I've not sought out much animated Green Lantern stuff, possibly due to the film. It wasn't that bad, I just didn't take to it. Are any of those worth getting? Have been watching Batman - The Brave And The Bold on C5, and perhaps it's the way they are presented as a bit one dimensional compared to say the X-Men, but its swayed me more towards Marvel. How do you rate that series if you have seen it. Too kid friendly to be taken seriously I guess?

I have a stack of Marvel books to read as well, but the ammount of TV (comic related and otherwise) I have to get through is massive, and it seems to take priority. Need to sort myself out in that sense. I think there are some massively good reads i'm missing out on. I also guess that due to the EMH stories, that most of the books I have, being the more popular titles, are stories i'll know the outcome of now.

  13. There isn't going to be one, it got cancelled to be replaced by Avengers Assemble.

Sounds like Avengers Assemble might be a continuation of EMH, so there is some hope that it won't start afresh, and build on what was a cracking show:

"On Saturday, July 14, 2012 Loeb, Head of Marvel Television, stated at the 2012 Marvel Television Presents panel at San Diego Comic-Con that The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes hasn't been canceled as Avengers Assemble is being viewed as "a continuation of that series." Specifics of the transition/continuation between the two series have not been revealed at this time."

Finished Series 2 of EMH last night (albeit one episode missing), don't read if you don't want to hear spoilers/questions/my thoughts.

No cliffhanger at the end, but it didn't exactly feel finished if that makes sense?

I thought the battle with Galactus was awesome, how all the heroes came together in their time of greatest need. They really put across how much of a destructive force he is. The ending felt rushed though, they could have spanned the story over 3 episodes easily. Do people think it dampened down the impact Galactus should have had (not read much about him)? Is he the be-all-end-all baddie, or is someone like Thanos the most powerfull?

Is Galactus the one who is linked to the Silver Surfer, kind of his master who gets him to check out prospective planets to consume, if I understand correctly?

Loved the 'New Avengers' episode, they would make a great spin-off team. I thought that they wouldn't have had access to some of the X-Men though like in the movie franchises, but with Wolvie in there i'm guessing not. Did they miss out on not including some other crossovers (Beast)?

Also being new to comics in gerneral, it was the first exposure I had to The Vision. He is one Badass mo-fo isn't he?

Is the Winter Solider episode a condensed version of the Capt America comic Winter Solider, that will be the next in his film series?

    [close spoiler]

    ");document.close();

Didn't enjoy The Dark Knight Returns - Part 1 as much as some of you have, but yes it was good.

I have quite a few other animated films/series now lined up to watch. Any ones I should tackle first, or a particular order?

Wolverine & The X-Men tv series

    X-Men Anime series

    Thundercats Anime series

    Iron Man Anime series

    Wolverine Anime series

    Justice League: Doom

Justice League: Crisis on 2 Earths

    Superman/Batman: Public Enemies

    Superman/Batman: Apocalypse

    BATMAN:MASK OF THE PHANTASM

    WONDER: WOMAN

    SUPERMAN: LAST SON OF KRYPTON

    BATMAN: MYSTERY OF THE BATWOMAN

    Batman: Under the Red Hood

    Doctor Strange

Any major ones i'm missing? Apart from TDKR1, have also seen Superman: Doomsday

  14. Have got The Dark Knight Returns - Part 1 to watch, but I'm currently making my way through Season 2 of The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes and want to see to the end of that first.

It's a brilliant little series, can't see why Series 1 is being shown at 7:00am Saturdays on CITV, I think there is a wider audience for it, of an older age group, at a different time.

  15. BINGO!

I knew the moment I read the post that was it. Very similar to Battle Valley, so easily confused, but thats exactly how I remember.

    Thanks muchly!

I had a (sad) nostalgic day yesterday using Google Maps to walk around all my old haunts from the university days in Hartlepool and Middlesborough, and now im feeling the same about the old old days!
