  1. bobbins, it's not about differing opinions or even if I've been "constantly proved to be defending the indefensible." It's the way in which David in particular puts his opinions across. I'm finding it hard to think of the right word for it, attitude was the only one that came to mind. Or tone, perhaps. Even though, like attitude, it's dodgy to use that term when you are talking about text.

Without wishing to put words in anyones mouth, I suspect posts like the one below are the kind to which SSB refers.

That being said, if it were to turn out that this student *was* assaulted by a police officer, I would hope and expect that the officer be held accountable.

Just like the copper (who had previous before the event) who done in Ian Tomlinson?

The inference to be drawn from it is that because one police constable is suspected of using unreasonable force, that all police officers must use unreasonable levels of force when policing in public order situations, and be unfettered by legal due process as a result of their priveliged position.

However, all of this is inference; what one person chooses to infer from written text may be different to the authors intent. Though David and I have largely differing political views, I don't beleive that he displays "attitude" or malice in his style of posting, though the post above does come across as though David is unwiling to consider that cracking this protester over the head *may* have been a perfectly reasonable thing to do in the situation.

  2. Outstanding game for us. It's fair to say Broad hasn't made his most significant contribution to the series, so hopefully we won't miss him too much. Bring on the WACA!

I'd have to disagree with you there, I think he's bowled really well and just hasn't got the wickets. He's definatly bowled quick and accurate, helping to build pressure for the other bowlers to get wickets. He will be missed but as I said it presents a chance for someone else.

I agree with you, Harvey. He's been consistent enough, but hasn't been among the wickets.

I've never seen Ricky Ponting look as downtrodden as he did in that interview with Athers...."shambolic"!

  3. Pity about the rain but we're still in a great position. KP was fucking magnificent once he got the hundred up, he just tore into them. Athough the rain is shite, anything that gets an extra hour of Beefy and Shane Warne just talking about cricket is fine by me. Botham looks like the cat who got the cream at the moment. He's loving it.

Need to declare nice and early tomorrow. I wouldn't even bother batting. Even a mammoth effort from Australia should see us needing to knock another 80 or so on the last day. Over to you, Swanny.

Depends on the weather, I suppose. If there's more rain forcast, I agree, get at them. However, if we've got two more days of sun, I'd probably want to declare 40 mins or so before lunch, just to bugger them about a bit.

Shane Warne made a good point this morning on TV. He said tat you only have to give 10 minutes notice that you are declaring so he'd send the batters out to warm up and make it look for all the world like we were batting. Then at 9:50, he'd wander in and announce the declaration. Good idea.

    I like that a lot!

  5. As a student, I have no problem whatsoever with the proposed increase to tuition fees. This strikes me as anothe case of people wanting lots, for not very much, and mirrors exactly what is happening to the NHS.

Firstly, when a university education meant something, and was the springboard to a professional career, I believed that university education should be free. However, skip forward twenty-thirty years, and with a targeted 50% of the population expected to attend university (as opposed to what...15-20%?), the whole thing looks pretty unsustainable. A similar thing is happening in the NHS. When the service was established, it was expected to meet NEED. Now, it is expected to pander to WANT, and cannot cope.

University should not, in my opinion, be an opportunity to "find yourself" at the taxpayers expense, without it leading to a meaningful career. Of course, the flipside to this is that if a young person does not go to university, there's not much else around at the moment for them to do thanks to the erosion of the manufacturing and heavy industry sectors...

  6. So, do you want them to say "fortunately, you proles are fucked, but I'm alright"?

As a nation, we are in this together, but it is true that some of us will feel it more than others. And that's ok....because that's just life. Some are more equal than others.

You fucking doormat. No wonder you wiped people's arses with a smile on your face. You could do with some of David's righteous indignation.

It's not so much being a doormat....I have plenty of indignation when appropriate, righteous or otherwise. However, the only things that will affect me as an individual from this are universal; property prices falling, fuel prices rising etc. In that respect, we are all in it together.

  7. So what is your explanation to resolve the problem of certain people being wealthy and not having money issues. Would you just take all of their money off of them and share it out amongst all of the people on benefits etc so that we dont have such a burden on society?

    Of course not.

I just dont udnerstand what you're saying. Are you saying that these people shouldnt have the money they have earned in their lifetimes or are you saying they should struggle like other people?

What i'm saying is, first of all, they need to stop bullshitting us with their condescending banter.

Only a complete fucking moron is buying into this "were all in it together" nonsense.

So, do you want them to say "fortunately, you proles are fucked, but I'm alright"?

  8. Mary Louise Parker from Weeds, who's probably been posted in this thread before but so what:

    mary-louise-parker-ass.jpg

I was going to post her myself. Absolutely in love with this woman.

    Which series is THAT from?

She's amazing. She's still incredibly fit and she's, what, 46?

This woman is 46 years old? Are you on crack? That cannot be true!!

  9. Duane will love this one:

The founder of WikiLeaks, who recently released thousands of classified US documents on the Iraq War, is now wanted for arrest on charges of rape and molestation! They are clearly out to get him...

The warrant has been cancelled. I'll bet that the first thought a lot of people had when hearing about this story was that it was more than a little convenient in light of recent events.

When I read that on the BBC News website it made me wonder if there was a David Kelly moment on the horizon.

  10. I prefer this personally. Who knew the Isle of Wight was the centre of the mafia lizard world http://www.davidicke.com/headlines/37099-d...of-wight-mafia-

Freemasons, Satanists and Paedophiles running the show over there, Icke says it so it must carry gravitas and so on.

    I shagged his son.

I was deeply dissappointed to see your user name at the side of this post Anne. I was hoping it would be Butch, or Scott Malbranque....one of the swordsmen.

  11. I just dont get why the government/home office are so determined to protect Venables.

Thompson I can understand since it "seems" he has kept out of trouble.

Because you know what would happen if they didn't don't you.

Sure most people wouldn't care if it did but the Government can't really allow it can they.

Regardless of the consequences there must come a time where the home office says enough is enough.

I doubt it. I suppose they could find some thin ice on which to detain him on a section if he continues to reveal his identity. I agree that its unsustainable to give him a new identity if he's planning on spending two our of every five years inside for the rest of his life.

Bulger killer Venables jailed over child porn charges

One of the killers of James Bulger has been jailed for two years after admitting downloading and distributing indecent images of children.

Now 27, Jon Venables was 10 when he and Robert Thompson murdered the toddler in Bootle, Merseyside.

In a statement at the Old Bailey, Venables said he was "genuinely ashamed" of his latest offences.

But James' mother Denise Fergus said "justice had not been done".

Her spokesman said two years "was simply not enough to meet the gravity of what this person did".

    Two Years?

    Throw. Away. The. Fucking. Key.

    a) This has got absolutely nothing to do with Denise Fergus whatsoever. Her opinion means no more than yours or mine.

    b) The sentence seems commensurate with the gravity of the offence.
