And by that same token, comedy correctly suited to a lower card act where it does work; Indy Hartwell might be my favourite character in all of wrestling right now. She’s brilliant. Who else could do the unthinkable and make me care about something involving Dexter Lumis! Her willingly getting kidnapped on this show was the clincher, but she’s subtly been the funniest part of NXT for weeks now. This still makes me laugh from their super entertaining therapy session the other week.

I haven't watched much of NXT so not totally familiar with The Way...but I saw the below video today, have to admit, it made laugh:

I don't know what percentage of the overall audience it accounts for, but Wrestlemania normally attracts a lot of international fans, and without them being able to travel (because even if they're able to travel into Florida, chances are they have to self-isolate on the return), that might have an impact. I don't think many states have quarantine/interstate travel restrictions any more, but even if the communication is just to discourage travel, it's still going to have a major impact.

Yep my first thought was that WrestleMania is usually a huge deal for a worldwide audience and always brings people in from all over. Without that they were always going to suffer plus there's still a lot of people that simply aren't comfortable with getting out there and doing something "normal" like this at the moment. I don't think the card really has anything to do with it. Mania sells itself under normal circumstances.

I was thinking with the reduced attendance it wouldn't make as much of an impact but yeah, I think you're both right with the international fans. Also seeing the guidelines for those attending would also put me off going :)

HUNDREDS OF FLOOR AND RINGSIDE SEATS REMAIN UNSOLD FOR WRESTLEMANIA

    - Not much WrestleMania tickets have moved over the past week and the company still have tickets to sell for both night one and two. Night two has less tickets remaining than night one but both nights have a big problem: hundreds of floor and ringside seats remain unsold. Night one on April 10 has a total of 387 floor seats available for sale, 137 of which are classified as ringside. Seats as close to fifth row remain for sale. Night two on April 11 has slightly less floor seats available with 297 but a higher percentage of ringside seats on sale with 115 available. Just like night one, seats as close as fifth row cane be purchased. The higher price point of these tickets is a turn off for many fans, and with no international fans splashing cash, it looks like WWE will be giving some upgrades on the two nights to fill up these seats. The highest tickets are selling for $2,000 for ringside and the cheapest floor seats are $200. There are just over 1,000 seats in total available for night one and less than 800 available for night two.

I'm surprised, I thought they'd sell out pretty quick considering how long it's been for fans to attend a WWE show. I guess with the lacklustre card and COVID, it's just not enticing enough.

    This.

At what stage do the TV higher ups look at this and work out its not worth the money they are paying for it?

There was an article discussing the Smackdown ratings and their value to the channel, I imagine the Raw situation will be in similar:

    Quote

Sportico has an article online which details how FOX is putting money aside to be able to afford the new NFL rights, an article which also explains why Smackdown has so far been a hit for the network.

The article states that no one should expect that FOX will try and walk out of the $1 billion WWE deal like they just did with the U.S. Open golf contract which they offloaded to NBC Sports. Sportico says that WWE is providing 52 weeks of programming to FOX for just $1.9 million per hour, considerably less than what FOX would otherwise pay for another show.

Two drama television shows which would occupy the Friday night 8PM to 10PM time slot would cost around $5 million an hour and that investment is only for just 22 nights of original content. That is much more than FOX is paying WWE and Sportico adds that Smackdown is currently drawing 5% larger audience in the 18-49 demographic than what was on the network before and that’s also when this year, overall primetime demos were down 13%.

The article also states that with the median age of 52.4 years, Smackdown viewers are nearly five years younger than those who were watching FOX in that time slot last season.

With filming held up for most shows and TV channels needing to fill up their schedules I think WWE will still be a pretty good position for a little while yet.

The GBA thing is weird. Mostly because they only announced it this week I think? It's as if they only just realised what AEW were doing and decided to do something to go up against it. Quite a slow reaction really.

AEW announced on June 3rd that Fyter Fest would air over the 1st and 8th July editions of Dynamite. WWE only announced their Great American Bash version for NXT on June 24th...so it does seem like a last minute decision.

Can't comment on NXT since I haven't watched it outside of the odd clip in ages.

Be interesting to see what numbers the Fyter Fest shows draw. They've pushed those pretty hard and it would no doubt be a big disappointment if those shows underperformed.

Saying that though it's good that both AEW and NXT are still pulling in over half a million viewers.

NXT will be airing a 2 night special of The Great American Bash to coincide with AEW's Fyter Fest shows, will be interesting to see who comes out on top. AEW seem to have all their matches set, NXT is still working on theirs...

    Fyter Fest 2020 - July 1st

Knowing Vince & Linda's friendship & working relationship with Trump, I have wondered in the past what would happen if things got to a point where WWE Superstars were publicly critisizing him.

Whether that would affect their WWE status or bring about Vince actually saying something on TV about the ongoing situation.

Seems like we could find out sooner rather than later.

Can you imagine if Vince (or Michael Cole on his behalf) says something on Monday Night Raw along the lines of what Ryker tweeted last night. That would surely start a huge backlash against WWE.

Sami doesn't tend to hold things back...

UFC FIGHTER STAYING IN SAME HOTEL WITH AEW WRESTLERS TESTS POSITIVE

    - One UFC fighter and two of his cornermen tested positive for COVID-19 while all of UFC's personnel were staying in the same hotel as AEW crew and staff in Jacksonville. Middleweight Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza was notified yesterday that the pre-fight testing flagged him for the coronavirus just 24 hours before he was supposed to fight on UFC 249 tonight. Souza has been taken off the card and later two of his cornermen also tested positive for the virus. All three were asymptomatic and were staying at the same hotel which All Elite Wrestling booked for their stars and crew while they were in town for the live episode of Dynamite. Souza and his team has now moved out of the hotel to self-isolate. Despite the positive test, the Florida Athletic Commission has given the green light for UFC 249 to continue as planned tonight.

I thought they’d taped everything upto Double or Nothing?

With them going live again next week, have they just sacked off the tapes shows? Or was it mis-reported that they taped that far

They did but apparently they're not going to use it.

    AEW RETURNS LIVE NEXT WEEK

    - All Elite Wrestling is scrapping the footage they have filmed up to Double or Nothing and opting to return to new material with next week's Dynamite live from Daily's Place in Jacksonville. The Florida Governor order - pushed by WWE - to deem pro wrestling and contact sport essential allows AEW to also operate in the state behind closed doors. For the past month or so, AEW had shows from QT Marshall's gym in Georgia with many of the top stars missing. But next week, all gloves are off as the show returns live. It looks like the following week's show will be taped and the Double or Nothing go-home episode being live again. And with all the talent returning to work, they already announced a PPV-caliber main event for Wednesday with Kenny Omega teaming with Matt Hardy taking on Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara. This will be Hardy's first in-ring wrestling match for the promotion.

The ITV Hub one seems to be the cut down edited version they’ll be airing on Sunday morning on ITV4 by the looks of it so all being well tomorrow nights airing at 11:20 will be the full unedited version.

They've kept the chair spot in during the women's match and the glass table spot during the main event. I can't see them keeping those in for Sunday morning viewing...although I've got no idea of the rules for that time in the morning :)
