  1. 15 deep and no mention of Mr Big’s ‘To be with you’? Truly the sound of the needle hitting a disc made entirely of shite.

’Galway Girl’ is right up there. I also instigated a ‘I said no John fuckin Mayer’ rule at my work. ‘Your body..’ is so bile inducing I can’t even type the words.

Greatest moment in pop will forever be the Undertones ‘Teenage Kicks’.

  2. ‘Fish house’ being kayfabe for brothels right?

In all seriousness, Rocco was a beast in the ring, you cannot sing his praises enough. My mum would never have much to say about wrestling, but, would make a point to say that ‘Rocco was a dirty swine’. Damn he was good.

  3. That main event was DDT-tastic. Bonkers, creative and genuinely laugh out loud funny. Exactly what we needed after the last few days, and none of the cinematic trappings of the WWE or Hardy compound efforts. I like my wrasslin’ played straight but it’s pointless right now and I could watch that over and over. A billion stars.

Genuine respect also for AEW taking the time to talk about Hana. Total class.

  4. This should not be tucked away as minor news.

This should serve as a stark reminder of how much negative impact social media can have on a person’s psyche.

Try to be better, nicer. There’s a place for criticism and opinion. There’s no place for simply being a lousy human.

For those not familiar with Hana Kimura, she had the wrestling world at her feet. She could have been anything she wanted, in wrestling or beyond.

Her vocation or celebrity is irrelevant however. This is a 22 year-old young woman driven to end her own life.

    Be peaceful Hana

  5. I’d say 6 stars is pushing into the realms of hyper bowl but he’s not too far off.

Barr & Guerrero v Octagon and Santo from When worlds Collide is up there. Moves, storytelling and nutty crowd heat.

My immediate thought is always Toyota & Yamada v Kansai and Ozaki from DreamSlam II. Just a relentless classic. I still fondly remember taking a tape into college, showing it to a bunch of non wrestling fans and watching their collective jaws hit the floor.

  6. There are elements of modern NJPW for sure but that match was 90% of the layout and psychology that Kenny developed in his big matches in Japan. In time we are going to come to realise just how much the first match with Okada changed the business, if we haven’t already.

Anyhoo, the point was that Omega’s trigger arm was so incapacitated he couldn’t deliver the OWA. Page hit it but Nick broke it up, Matt didn’t kick out.

  7. 1 hour ago, Worthits said:

Same people saying how amazing that tag match was were the same moaning about how theres too many "movez" in AEW and how finishers no longer mean anything. Learn to be consistent.

You should probably re-watch the match.

Everything was paced out and meant something. The golden trigger was literally the only kick out and it was placed that way for maximum effect.

  8. I’m guessing this concept might be foreign for newer fans. That said, I fail to see how you couldn’t fall in love with this show unless you genuinely don’t enjoy the set up or the wrestlers.

It was a pretty perfect hour of wrasslin’. The promo/squash/promo/competitive main is still a winning formula and actually exciting to see again. Commentary was tremendous and that crowd was terrific, reacting exactly like an old NWA studio crowd (‘tell em’ Nick’) and not the smug self-satisfied rabble today’s shows suffer with.

Everyone got over, Drake v Connelly was a great little tv match and the main was bags of fun. Aldis is unspectacular but is a perfect champion. Carries himself, great promos and knows exactly how to lay his matches out to maximum effect. You can do one million spots, but if you don’t know where to edit and emphasise you’re pissing in the wind.

If they do a little Memphis studio carnage as the weeks go by this could become something really special that a lot more people are going to want to be a part of. I’ve got my fingers crossed for them.

  9. The Sydney show is the shits. If I paid money for that I’d be even more pissed than having paid for the Melbourne show last year.

That show was so poor I left right after intermission when I found out  I was getting an all Aussie tag match on a bloody NJPW show. It was far from the statement of intent NJPW should have been making on their big show in a potential big market.

To be fair, the second half of this upcoming Melbourne show should be good. Ultimately though, these shows are relatively last minute and it shows all over. Obviously there are booking commitments and expenses, but if you are going to use the aussies use them to sell tickets and build your local market.

Slex is great and the current MCW champion. He just had a relative amount of press and radio pub. He also tore the house down with Okada previously. Why not put the MCW v IWGP champ? Garners interest, sells tickets and Slex loses nothing putting Okada over, only bolsters his reputation.

At the end of the day Gedo did book both of these shows. That said, I know enough of the voices in ears to say that I think more people could be stepping up and saying how about we do this, or that? Festival hall isn’t sold out, and I’d be surprised if it does. In this case I think it is for a lack of trying.

  10. Uncle Dave nailed it; it was UFC 1, warts and all.

Wanted to add how much I loved all the post show interviews also, especially Dustin’s seemless kayfabing of his blade job. What a pro-wrestler that guy is.

  11. I’m going to chime in here because I’m genuinely excited about US pro-wrestling and I can’t recall the last time I felt that way.

I’ve got the Nitro-feels and all the elements that made 1996 WCW so great, minus the guys that had no business still being in the ring. That show had something for everyone and was a prefect reflection of the industry outside of WWE today. If you don’t like that landscape you won’t like this show, period.

The Rhodes boys tore it down. That was a level of match quality, crowd response and emotion not seen since Cena v Punk at MITB. That’s going to go down as an all-time classic. The homage to their dads amazing promo prior to Clash 28 capped it.

Let’s stop with the WWE v AEW talk. Business, merch, branding, ratings; we are light years apart. AEW is an alternative that benefits everyone and the likes of which I never thought I’d see in my lifetime. They have a platform to really build something and I can’t wait to see where they go.

  12.

That would directly contradict the owner of New Japan, who specifically made the point that they are not and do not wish to be a feeder company, hence the contract restructuring.

Of course it would, but sometimes people say and do two different things. Maybe that's the way they're going to be, God know they should've put foreigners under longer contracts years ago.

But the other week they had no problem presenting a graduation from their company. It made them look second rate. Banging on about him on today's show and doing his spots looked a bit pandering too. Maybe it was just tonight for the title decider, but if they keep referencing him they'll look bad.

Niall- can you clear your pms or shoot me your email address- need to drop you a line- thanks
  13. So how about that new Anathema album? A billion stars.

Playing their first ever shows in Australia in August. I'd probably fall at Lee Douglas' feet and declare my undying love, but I bought the wife a ticket

  14. I answered this in your thread mate;

Crossing The Line is dubbed. November To Remember '97 isn't. Don't know about House Party, but I suspect it's dubbed also as they seemed to dub all the none PPVs.

NTR though, for some reason part of RVD vs Dreamer is cut out. Delta did this on a few releases, Corino vs Tajiri at Hardcore Heaven for one.

Thanks boss. If anyone knows about HP 99 i'd appreciate the scoop.

  16. Short and sweet. WW2004 sounded like a tremendous show. Itching to see the Jr. matches & Nagata - Sasake which sounded like one of those bloody classics only NJ can pull off. Anyway, a NJ revival is good for the Puro scene as a whole, so lets look positively towards this new year.Obviously the key result from a potential standpoint is Liger winning the GHC Jr. strap. Given his role in 2003's feud of the year, the chase to reclaim the title should be worth it's weight in **** matches.Wow -2004 off to a bang. Lets ditch the negativity and get back to some serious marking out -god knows we've all earn't it.
