  1. The thing that gets me is that, if all of you are right and it is so easy for these kids to get jobs, to have prospects, life-chances etc, then why the fuck would they start burning down their own communities? Then we just come back to there being no earthly reason whatsover. And that does not explain why these riots started and continue in the more deprived areas of London (or Birmingham, Liverpool and Nottingham).

No one says it's easy, nothing worth anything is easy, that's not the point. The point is they need to get off their arse and make the fucking effort. The cost of transport is no excuse, it's a problem most of us face and as Mike pointed out to you in some parts of the country you have limited public transport limiting your options, but you still have to pay for that transport.

  2. The thing is though, I haven't been debating how to deal with the riots in the short term. I have been talking about the causes just as others have. I certainly don't condone 'cracking skulls', half of these people are kids! I'd say more police numbers and the possibility of water cannons I suppose. Though that'd be something that'd have to be considered, and I'm not sure how safe water cannons are.

Oh my life! These people, kids, teenagers, adults are burning down buildings, people's place of work, people's homes, they are seriously putting people's lives at risk! Last night I was concerned about heavy handedness, today it's time to kick some arse! I don't give a fuck if you 10 years old or 30 years old. If you're on the streets tonight robbing, burning, stabbing, whatever your contribution to the trouble that you shouldn't be doing I want you stopped. I want the Prime Minister on the TV this afternoon making it 100% clear that this will not be tolerated tonight or any other night and anyone who goes forward with plans of anymore riots will be putting their own safety at risk the the Police have been authorised to use the necessary force to clear the streets.

Tomorrow when Mrs Thing is bitching that her little boy got hurt by police in the riots someone ask her what the hell he was doing out in the first place then have her in court right next to him.

Enough is fucking enough, stop making excuses for your shit lives and start doing something about it. No one owes you shit, it's not my fault I have a job and you don't, it's not my fault my parents gave a fuck and yours were happy for you to raom the streets. Take responsibility for yourselves!

    Am I being too harsh?

  3. The money should come from corporation tax and similar strategies. Not from people who can hardly afford to live. Also, I'm not sure what counter points you are referring to, other than people saying everyone has the same opportunity which is simply wrong.

Well there was Spurs4Life (?) pointing out that he lives in Tottenham where it all started and that there are plenty of jobs available to those who want them. You never responded to any of those points he was making.

  4. Well it might not be easy, but you spend money instead of taking more away from the public and much needed services. I think they have considered it, but decided it would be a better idea to pay the budget deficit in the fastest way possible by taking money from the public pocket.

So where does this money come from? The last government has left the country in a financial mess, so yeah they do need to sort that out, which mean less money to go around. All the while the cost of living is rising.

Also, how can I tell them to get a job when there are none or they don't have the qualifications/experience to get one. There's something like 20 people applying for every one job in Haringey.

You've ignored every counter point given to you regarding this.

  5. That's why unemployment has risen since they came into government then.

I'm curious as to how you would create jobs actually and of course how these jobs would be paid for?

Where I work we tend to employ the people we need rather than create a position so we can give someone else a job.

  6. Why is it point scoring? It's simply looking at what caused such an action, rather than going for the old knee-jerk "they're all scumbags! get the rubber bullets & water cannons out!" reaction.

3 days in I don't think you can use the phrase knee-jerk! In fact I don't see the problem with calling them all scumbags either, because that's what they are. Sure, there maybe things that have made them how they are but everyone is faced with choices in their life, sometimes people choose not to set fire to the local shops even if their life is in a hole.

  7. A lot more chance through education and other public services such as community/youth centres than through prison. We need a total reform of the education system and the prison system. Schemes like where the offender has to meet and apologise to the victim of crime to see the emotional distress they have caused rather than being totally disconnected what they're doing. People are too individualistic these days, that goes for both rich and poor.

Sure, changes need to be made, but none of it means these people should be off the hook. They are committing serious crimes here. I don't give a fuck how hard they're up bringing may have been, or how shit things are where they live. They know very well that what they are doing is wrong, very wrong. You wanna know why people are accusing you of making excuses? It's because you are. However, it's good that this thread has someone with the flipside of the coin.

Bottom line is, they have just made their own circumstances so much worse than they ever were before and worse yet they've fucked the rest of us over in the process. So far as I'm concerned they can take their poor me act and spin it in prison away from good, decent people.

  8. Well to me it won't make much of a difference if they are punished or not. I'd imagine a lot of them don't care either way. The threat of punishment is hardly acting as a deterrent at the moment, is it? Football violence is obviously slightly different but don't make out that the guys involved in that are normally mild-mannered family men who randomly turn violent at the weekends. They're people with violent histories, probably brought up around violence and fear. People don't act in these ways for no reason.

I wasn't making out they were mild mannered family men, I think the world I used was grade A cunts. What I was saying is that many of them also have jobs and family's and as such the violence is for the sake of it and because they enjoy it, not because they have nothing better to do.

Likewise I don't believe the street are being ripped apart by the counties unemployed, sure a lot of them probably don't have jobs, but I'll bet a lot of them do and I'll also bet the vast majority are only there and doing this for the buzz. Nothing more.

International Olympic Committee meeting in London to decide if these events are significant enough to warrant moving the Olympics.

That won't happen and I'll be suprised if they're even having the meeting. Probably just rumours.

  9. That's not wishing for the best for everyone though is it? You've got thousands of people involved in these riots, would you just throw them all in prison? What about their friends or their families? Do you not see the need for longer-term solutions?

And what happens when they come out of prison, with fewer prospects and more criminalised? Do we just rinse and repeat?

I've found in this thread that some people really struggle to know the difference - I've been accused several times of making excuses.

The problem is, you're looking for explanations at the same time as coming across as though you don't think they should be punished for what they've done. You continue to talk as though they are trying to make some kind of point, like this is actually some kind of protest. I would absolutely put them in prison and given the gravity of this situation I would go for the toughest sentence posible in each case.

This has been an organised situation, am I right in thinking sometimes football violence is pre-organised? People contact each other via text, social network, etc with details of where it's all to kick off and BOOM! Everyone jumps on board? They do that for the violence, nothing else and some of these people have got jobs, they've got families, but they also happen to be grade A cunts!. Is this any different? Seems to me like the same thing but on a much larger scale.

  10. I get that you're confused but do you really think that shooting people is the answer? And seeing as there's probably more than a few guns going around London, what happens if they shoot back?

No, I'm not saying the police should start shooting, what I am saying is that they need to be doing something more, more force is necessary. Last night I pointed out to someone the idea of opening fire on people in the streets was bad and pointed out the Ian Tomlinson situation from a couple of years ago (ok that was shooting, but it was act first, judge later) I was also thinking along the lines of how hypocrital it would be of us to go in guns blazing when we started bombing other countries for effectively doing similar.

Sadly I woke up this morning to riots spreading across the country and just getting worse, leaving me with very conflicted views. I can see before the days out words such as curfew being thrown around and talk of bringing the Army in to deal with it.

That's a touch harsh Kris. It's mindless violence to provide cover for robbing up JD Sports and Currys.

You make rather a good point, in fact I could do with getting along to one of these get togethers, pick myself up that new TV I need!

  11. I really don't understand what's going on, none of this makes sense to me. It's not a protest, they don't appear to be looking to achieve anything. It's mindless violence for the sake of it.

People on Facebook were saying the Police need to just start shooting people. Maybe they're right, I don't have the answer to this. I'm just confused.

I do know my TV packed up in the early hours of Sunday morning. I'm rather glad I didn't decide to burn the house down otherwise I'd have nowhere to watch SummerSlam at the weekend.

  12. Well this is a sad day for me. I hate the costume, absolutely hate it. It's everything I hated about the last costume and more. The S is fucking hidious! As for the man himself, I'll have to wait for a trailer to hopefully hear him speak. Another thing that's gonna bug me, since when was Perry White black? I'm not keen on established characters being altered too much I'm affraid. Especially when it relates to a subject I really love!

  13. Cole kissed lawler's feet, then ate a breathe mint (most blatant product placement ever) and apologised. Lawler is a forgiving chap.

I had been wondering this too. What prompted the appology?

It's a shame they didn't take Cole of commentary and make him a manager. The character was devoloping well in that direction.

  14. So the guy just happens to be walking down the road, filming nothing, takes the time to make sure we see a bunch of people watching the sky and only THEN does he show us...ok.

Actually it was pretty clear the camera was recording because he was running to get a better view of the UFO's, it certainly didn't come across as he "Happened to be recording walking down the street". Not that it matters, my mate seems to think this was revealed as a student project. Well done I'd say.

  15.

    Looks good I think

That looks fucking awesome. The only downside is that if go to the cinema to see it(which i probably will) i can guarantee it'll be packed with knob-head, chavvy, tossers who'll ruin it.

I really can't wait to see this! I think the type of person in the cinema will either help the atmosphere or kill it.

  16. I would much rather see something original with it's own ideas than just an updated soundtrack plus a few of the moment actors playing dress up. I'm not saying all remakes are pointless but TGWTDT looks like a straight up redo (with a crappy soundtrack) and Fright Night just looks horrible.

Wasn't the other version of that foriegn?

What a lot of people fail to understand with remakes is that sometimes a good film needs bringing upto date in order to introduce it to a new audience. Sure, you can call it lazy if you must or unimaginative, but for me I'll always be greatful for the 1990 remake of Night of the Living Dead, without which I wouldn't have fallen in love with zombie movies!

To me The Goonies has aged really well and I think a lot of people would agree that it still has appeal to a modern audience but to my suprise I have a mate who never seen it and doesn't want to because "it's old" he's a bit strage though, cos that old to him and yet he loves The Young Ones and Bottom!

  17. I'm actually stumped to be honest. There's a lot of videos on there of UFO's over London during late June, and this ones good as it shows other people on the street looking up and filming.

However I can't see these being real, I'm just not sure what its all about. This many sightings by all these different people would have attracted more mainstream coverage if they actually took place.

EDIT: Actually the Daily Mail did report it. Are aliens getting less camera shy? UFOs filmed above BBC building in London

Are aliens getting less camera shy? UFOs filmed above BBC building in London

If UFOs are real and trying to get our attention perhaps they are getting a little more savvy about the way we humans work.

A new video has emerged purporting to show 'a mothership and its fleet' zipping around in the clouds above a BBC building in West London.

Perhaps the group of intergalactic travellers was hoping for some coverage from Auntie.

Instead they were caught on camera by a passer-by, and at least one other person who can be seen filming or taking pictures on his camera phone while the video is filmed.

In the video, the cameraman runs towards the corner of Bolsover Street and Clipstone Street where two other men are already standing, gazing skywards, one of whom is using a mobile phone camera.

As the camera is pointed upwards, over the BBC's Yalding House, three white dots flash across the sky at great speed in a triangle formation, they are very quickly followed by two similar sized white dots.

As the camera pans down again, two people on the opposite side of the road can also been seen watching events unfold above them.

Then one larger, bright and more slow moving disc-shaped white object appears, circles around briefly and zips off.

By this time a crowd of five people have gathered on the street corner to observe. A Scottish man's voice is heard off camera saying the word 'UFO'.

Shortly after another Scottish man's voice is heard saying: 'Are you getting that up there? I couldn't see before because the sun as flashing by.'

Far be it from us to suggest that the video is a hoax, but were people so minded then that part of London is home to a great many production houses offering both the expertise and facilities to mock up a convincing video.

Another similar video posted by alymc01 appears to have been filmed from the office of The Mill, a company which creates visual effects for the film industry.

But as the person who circulated the footage wrote in order to circumvent the cynical naysayers: 'If you believe it's easy photoshopped why don't you make a video & show us all.'

The video was originally uploaded to YouTube by 31-year-old user alymc01, but it has been more widely circulated by a user called EllasVirgo, who on his YouTube profile describes himself as a farmer from Australia.

Virgo's YouTube channel is filled with space, asteroid and UFO-related snippets, including videos with titles such as 'More proof Nasa is lying'.

In the brief text accompanying the video Virgo wrote: 'UFOs Over London BBC Radio 1 Building.

'Right - took over a week to get it....but finally managed to get these critters on camera on a clear day, and even get a close-up

'It seems to be attracting quite a crowd now when they appear

'Can anyone explain what on earth these lights are please?'

The video was uploaded on June 26 and, given that Virgo says it took more than a week to source, and that he states in the description that it was shot on a Friday in June, the film was made on either June 3, 10 or 17.

  18. I really like those covers, DJ Kris. Just had a look at the thread, and you've got Randy Orton as the champion and Triple H as the challenger on your WrestleMania 25 one. It was the other way around.

Bloody hell, well spotted! We always used to jake that my covers were excellent but each one contained at least one error and it became a game trying to spot it. Like Where's Wally :D

Like where you have Bruno Sammartino VS Brutus Beefcake on the back of your Wrestlemania I cover? ;)

Do I? HA HA! I may need to fix a few things :D

  20. DAMN! There's some good shit in here! I really wish I could draw. I'm really interested in Graphic Design and I love doing stuff like putting together DVD covers, but actual artwork I suck at.

Fucking hell Deej, those are class. I

As I say, not too good at that stuff, but I'm quite pleased with my cover work.

  22. A mate of mine loves a good conspiracy theory and since we'd recently had a chat about a documentary I watched that debunked the conspiracy behind the Moon landing he decided to send me a link to one that says Stanley Kubrick actually watched over the filming of footage in a studio to be used as they were concerned they couldn't broadcast a live image back from the moon.

I found it to be an interesting documentary that included a nice piece of footage (an outtake) of someone climbing out of a shuttle and then studio equipment falling over in the background.

Now as I think about it, it makes sense that they would have concerns about broadcasting the live image back and actually it also makes sense that they might pre-record a backup in case of problems, after all, they needed to be able to show this, however I have some serious issues with this documentary.

It has some pretty high up people talking, but if you actually pay attention you'll notice that bar 1, maybe 2 people no one directly refers to the subject matter. In fact many quotes could have been lifted from interviews talking about something entirely different, but dropped into this context it comes across as though they're talking about the Moon landing.

Let me know what you think, here's part 1:

EDIT: I've just discovered that this was indeed a mockumentary, which I have to say gives me a great deal of satisfaction!
