  1. A few people who worked there have alluded to the situation, Man Like Dereiss posting a photo of him & Leon Slater with the 1PW tag belts with the caption “CURSED” for example.

But the first wrestler I have seen to properly address it is Amir Jordan:

Can anyone reccomend a good series on Mid south/UWF? timeline style is what im after to keep me amused while working :)

    PRO WRESTLING MOMENTS

It used to be called “Mid South Moments” when reviewing every TV episode of Mid-South Wrestling between 1984 and the name change to UWF.

But as there is less footage available of the UWF-era, they then started reviewing other stuff as well as Watts’ territory shows, and that led to the name change.

The host is a British guy (and occasional UKFFer) but he has had various co-hosts on rotation including a couple of guys who regularly attended the shows back then.
He even did a few episodes with Ricky Morton, a few others with Erik Watts, but the big one was when he had Bill Watts himself on the show last year. 83 years old and still sharp as a tack.

I generally get a bit shirty about any documentary that makes "investigators" or people perfunctorily involved in the case the focal point, because it's usually a sign that they haven't got much else to work with. There was a BBC Storyville one on historic child abuse in Jersey that gave way too much time and importance to some "civilian journalist" types that are just local nutters with a blog,

This has become more popular ever since "Don't Fuck With Cats". The big difference between that one and most others though is ...

    Spoiler

... the civilian investigators actually solved the case and caught the guy.

  4. The reason I don’t think of Jericho as being among the all-time greats is because in all aspects of wrestling he was good but never among the very BEST at anything.

Good technical wrestler, good high flyer, good promo work, good look, good at ladder matches, good at cage matches … I wouldn’t put him in the all-time Top 10 at any of those things.

  5. Remember that time Trump vowed to cure AIDS and childhood cancer “very shortly”?

That was 3 years ago today.

No plan laid out, no funding set aside, no further details. He said he would cure it, the people in red hats gave him a standing ovation, and he started talking about something else.

Bobby Fish is 45 years old, if he's not "got it" now, he never will. There are people who worked for WCW that are younger than he is. He serves a purpose as a reasonably no-nonsense tag team technical guy, but I have no real interest in seeing him as a focal point of main event storylines, and it'll put a dampener on some good stuff going on if the first Trios champions end up being the NXT lads.

I was going to defend Fish by fawning over how good the Undisputed Era vs Moustache Mountain matches were in NXT a few years ago.

But then I remembered it was while Fish was out for 6 months with a torn ACL and it was O'Reilly & Roderick Strong who were teaming up at the time.

  7. I listen to Corey Graves' podcast every week. I think he's a good interviewer and he gets consistently interesting guests.

But every single week, without fail, he will at some point say something alone the lines of "What I'm about to say is going to be talked about for days on social media" or "I know the dirtsheet writers are listening to this..." but I have never seen anything about any of his podcasts talked about on social media. Ever.

There are ways to big-yourself-up and acknowledge that your opinions go against the grain, but it's a petty annoyance when he constantly claims that everybody is taking notice when nobody actually is.

  8. Has anyone watched the D.B. Cooper documentary series on Netflix?

I watched the first two episodes tonight.

I really liked the first one explaining exactly what happened and how they ruled out the first few suspects, but episode 2 was shite. Some fame-hungry “investigative journalist” tracks down and confronts someone in 2013 who was a suspect the FBI had investigated and ruled out back in 1979.

He stuck to his story and this bloke and his mate leave saying they are sure he did it.

Is it more of the same in the next three episodes, or does it get better?

Ellen White took both of her goals really well, but should have had 4 or 5 at least. She had plenty of chances in the Austria game last week too.

Similar story last night, whereas Russo was the opposite: clinical to start with and then missed a few sitters late on.

Overall though, I thought it was a better team performance than the Norway game.

Surprised Beth Mead got a full 90 minutes.

  10. A transcript of one of my favourite jokes from ‘Porridge’ popped up on my Facebook memories this morning.

I can’t find a clip of it on its own, but it’s at 1m 20secs in this montage:

MacKay: “My house is a reflection of my wife…”

    Fletch: “Big is it?”

    MacKay: “… spotless”

    Perfect timing from them both.

  11. Clearly a bonkers thing to say about a team who won 8-0 but I genuinely thought England looked mediocre, only Millie Bright & Beth Mead looked really good.

Norway didn't even turn up obviously, which led to England having 25 shots but only half of them were on target.

Ellen White took both of her goals really well, but should have had 4 or 5 at least. She had plenty of chances in the Austria game last week too.

Lucy Bronze is supposedly one of the best players in the world and is impressive going forward, but the wingers were easily finding space around her to whip crosses in.

It will be interesting to see how they get on in the knockout stage, seeing if the forwards improve their accuracy when they don't get another chance every couple of minutes and whether the defence tightens up against the better attacking sides.

  12. 6 matches have been announced for this, so far:

    - Rob Van Dam (with Katie Forbes) vs Mark Haskins (with Vicky Haskins)

    - Mickie James vs Lizzy Evo

    - Christopher Daniels vs Cara Noir

    - Ruby Soho vs Session Moth Martina

    - MLW World Championship: Alex Hammerstone vs Nathan Cruz

    - Survival Of The Sickest: Ulf Herman, Big F'n Joe, Tyler Devlin vs Iceman, Jack (Iceman's son), Clint Margera

Also announced: Ace Austin, British Invasion (Doug Williams & Nick Aldis), Greg Burridge, Michael Oku, Robbie X, Ricky Knight Jr., Taonga, Scotty Rawk, Will Kroos.

At the end of June they announced over 1000 tickets had been sold.

  13. I got tickets for Saturday and Sunday.

Went to LFCC in 2015 to meet the Back To The Future cast, but that’s the only convention I’ve ever attended.

So I’m really excited to just be in that whole Star Wars bubble for a weekend and my wife (who loves Star Wars as much as me, but has never done any kind of convention) will surely love it too.

  14. I’m another who saw all the praise ‘Barry’ was getting in this topic and binged all 3 seasons over the past 2 weeks.

Despite my favourite character being NoHo Hank who steals every scene he is in, he was barely in the incredible episode with the amazing motorbike chase.

One of the past half-hours of TV I’ve seen in years.

I found all of the Sally stuff in Season 3 really over the top though, and I found myself waiting for those bits to be over so we could get back to Fuches, Hank, and of course Barry.

  15. Anyone who has ever listened to any of her interviews in the past 20 years can imagine why.

She always believes she’s smarter than everyone she talks to and constantly complains about how whatever trouble she is in is never her fault and blames everyone else.

Its meant to be about the start of AEW and where regal was . It doesn’t get close. The host needs to step in and reign him in when he’s off on a tangent and not answering what’s asked

More of the same in Week 2.

The 2 hour episode was about Regal’s “Real Man’s Man” period, and when he said (about 1.5 hours in) “It only lasted 5 weeks and because of the drugs I don’t remember any of it” that was the only time they went on-topic.

But surely the cinemas don't have the right to choose who gets to see any movie for free, shouldn't it always be the movie studios who get to make that decision?

Also, the person complaining does still get to see the movie for free - they just have to wait a few weeks.

  18. I saw Stewart Lee's Tornado/Snowflake show over a week ago.

At the interval my mate and I came out from 'Tornado' on a high thinking it had been an excellent hour, and while 'Snowflake' was also good we left after that second hour a bit deflated because we both thought it was the weaker of the two.

This morning I listened to a Marc Maron's podcast where he was explaining his latest set to Michael Che, saying it's a decent 90 minutes but he's unsure whether he wants to keep working on improving the full thing or get a support act to open for him and turn what he already has into an excellent 60 minute set instead.

I think I would have enjoyed a shorter version of Tornado/Snowflake more than the full 2 hour version.

Not a bomb threat this time then.

I thought reports were quite positive for the UK show, sales wise, have I got that wrong? Unless interest has been killed that badly or they have priced themselves out you'd think interest would be up for it enough as we are (or used to be) a staved market next to the major US cities.

Reports were very positive based on how many people had pre-registered for information about when tickets were going on sale.

From those numbers the likes of Sapp & Meltzer said things along the lines of "they could sell out the stadium twice" and "tickets will sell incredibly quickly".

I thought at the time that not everybody who enquires about ticket information is actually going to buy a ticket, and that was BEFORE they surprised us with the outrageous ticket prices which will have put off a lot of people (myself included).

  20. I'm watching Arrested Development for the first time and have reached the point in Season 3 where they introduce a character called Bob Loblaw.

That is one of the best names I have ever heard in my whole life.
