  1. Can we not do the "mates r mates for life" debate in here please.

Isn't it relevant to the topic though as in what kind of impact Benoits death is going to have on the wrestlers and the company as a whole? Should WWE stick by Benoit and acknowledge his career or not?
  2. It depends on how strongly his friends lobby for that to not happen.I agree with the poster above who said that for your very close friends or family, it doesn't matter what they've done, you'd still support them and fight for them. I hope that those who spoke so tearfully on Raw will fight for the memory of his career to last even if his life ended so tragically and, apparently, dishonourably.

If my friend had killed his own family then I would never want to be associated with that person again.
Then perhaps you're not as close to your friends as you think you are? That's not really a dig, it'd be a pretty big thing to stand by them through, but I couldn't turn my back on someone when they needed me the most because they suffered some sort of breakdown. Now when that person is also dead, it's got to be so much harder.
There are other things you could do rather than killing your seven year old son, if a friend of mine did that then no way would I try to defend or justify their actions. It's sick and demented.
Who said anything about defending or justifying? That's not the point at all.
I dont understand your point then sorry, what do you mean about sticking by them?
  3. Everything about Chris Benoit has been removed from the homepage of WWE.com other than the murder-suicide story.

Imagine the impact this is going to have on the WWE locker room, they will all have been devestated at finding out one of their friends is dead and now these rumours have come to light they are literally going to be "WTF" backstage and everybody will be fining it hard to trust or console on another. They should probably cancel ECW and Smackdown, in fact I think this may be the first ever case where WWE should have a break from programming. I really think the situation is that severe.

  6. Its also very sad that if fears are confirmed, he may not be put into the Hall Of Fame, which would be an almighty shame.

No way should WWE celebrate the career of Benoit if he has indeed killed his family, that would be the dumbest thing ever for them to do.
  7. I'm gonna be a real asshole and call shenanigans on this. If it comes back and hits me in the face then fine but at the moment I don't believe this.

Unless Benoit had a gun to his head he would NEVER agree to do this as a storyline.
  8. I know it's REALLY not important right now but this is going to fuck the WWE completely, this is the worst possible thing that could have happened given the publicity that Vince's "death" was getting. Its a lose lose situation whatever happens now.

  9. The other thing to remember is that WWE's buyrate problems are clearly not caused by a limited TV audience. There's about 750,000 people in the US who are prepared to spend money on WWE PPVs (as shown by WrestleMania), but they are doing as little as 125,000 for some shows. If you assume that a certain number - say 250,000 - of those WrestleMania buyers are 'one big show a year' customers, that still leaves 375,000 people who could be persuaded to buy your shows but aren't doing so. If you got them on board once a month, that's something like ninety million dollars a year that you could get by concentrating on building up PPVs rather than increasing ratings. There are something like five million people who watch WWE regularly. WWE has an established culture by which its viewers understand and accept the idea of paying forty dollars a month to watch a big event if you build it up sufficiently. If you look at those figures and think the problem is that not enough people watch the free TV shows, you're really missing the point. People talk about Vince McMahon as a genius for all the money WWE's making today, but given the set-up, market and business model, the amount of potential income he's blowing is mindboggling.

Do they make more money on the PPV's now there are more of them or would they have made more if they had kept to say just Rumble, Mania, KOTR, SSlam, S.Series?
  10. What is more likely is that half a million people will tune in next week to see what the fuss is about, Raw will get a 4.6 instead of a 4.2 and the following week it'll be back to normal and they won't have made a single penny from it.

It depends how they build up to Vengeance and if they maybe hint that the culprit or a clue could be revealed at the PPV?
  11. Indeed. I always liked this character and thought it had lots of mileage. He just seemed to lose his way a bit when he was aligned with Piper who then went on to feud with Mr America.
O'Haire was doing well for himself until Piper did something stupid and they fired O'Haire for it, the guy could have been a perfect fit for the new ECW and with some time in that character may have gotten over really big as it was fresh and innovative.
  12. what's the acoustic song at the start of the Wrestlemania 23 montage at the end?

One Thing Remains- The Memory Will Never Die

Ive just seen a clip of Monty Brown giving a great Pounce to Sabu on ECW. Did this happen on the latest episode of ECW TV?

That was a few weeks ago if it's the one where he flies across the ring.
  13. Anyone fancy knocking up a five team accumulator for tonight's football for me? All leagues and divisions considered. I have some in mind, but I don't want to sway anyone's suggestions by saying what I have.

Chelsea at 1/2, Liverpool at 2/5, Blackburn at 4/7, Bordeaux at 4/7 and Fiorentina at 11/10. How much are you putting on?
Shocking odds for Chelsea, im thinking of sticking some money on West Ham- whats the odds for them to win?
  14. Watched Dog Day Afternoon last night after hearing of its awesomeness from many people. Pacino is very good in his role and i liked the realistic element to the film as well where nothing went smoothly from the get-go unlike all the slick crime thrillers you always see. The film seemed to go on a bit too long for me but overall im very impressed. The one particular scene which stands out is when Pacino is on the phone to his real wife and you get an insight in to what could have drove him to do such a thing, great acting and well written.
