Just found out about this pretty unknown 80's Swedish band who played some great progressive rock.

" Dick Clark: And that was Whitesnake playing.

Rocker: We're Poison.

Drummer (looks at bass drum): It says that we're Ratt. "

I will give Mistress a go I have never heard of them.

 

Never got the hype over Crowbar myself yet I absolutely love Down, a great band in the studio and freaking amazing live (Windstein and Anselmo are just phenomenal on stage). Buzzov*en never gave me the impression they have anything special to offer, but I'll gladly try and give them a second chance if anybody can tell me which album I should grab to see what's all the buzz about

 

If you want to check out a great young band in the genre, I tell thee to check out Baroness - "Red Album" is full of mighty powerful stuff!

I'm still not sure where I stand with Anaal Nathrakh. On one hand they have some brutal tracks that I fucking love and on the other hand they tend to be way to repetitive without any charm. for example - "In the Constellation of the Black Widow" in my opinion has about 4 killer tracks and the rest pretty much worthless fillers.

Any discussion of sludge metal should begin with, end with and be comprised entirely of Iron Monkey.

You misspelled Melvins ;)I love me some Iron Monkey, but come on, there far from being the greatest sludge act in this great sub-genre.And if we're keeping the discussion on sludge than Cult of Luna deserves a mention as today they are one of the best with the last 3 albums being fucking magnificent work of sludge.

Mondo "Damian Demento" Kleen is BACK!

Hour of 13 seem to have stolen King Diamonds logo.

It's taken from the "Satanic Bible" and correct me if I'm wrong, but Diamond didn't wrote that book did he?

Can't beat some sludge metal. All contributions duly noted, and will be reviewed at the earliest opportunity.To go along with the non-mainstream deal, how about we all throw some recommendations out for people to hear of bands that we've uncovered along the way? If you're feeling adventurous you can even toss in some words letting us know where, when & how you heard them.

Here's a few to start it off:Hour of 13A great doom/heavy act. Well written with catchy vocal melodies and killer riffs. This band is easily one of the best metal bands to emerge in the last decade. Everything just flows together smoothly in their albums. Last year they got signed by the great Earache Records.Here's two great tracks that should do the trick:Soldiers Of Satan - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GykGHKXGBp8Naked Star - Pale DivineAnother great doom band that mix in some fine stoner with great riffs and an awesome vocalist that sounds like he just finished a fine bottle of Tennessee whiskey. Awesome, needed some new sludge to listen to and in return i give you Ecocide http://ecocide.bandcamp.com/album/ecocide-s-t, a mix of genres with a nice sludge feel and some violin.

I actaully heard of this album before and was curious to check it out, but after reading some reviews claming this was just "an average release" I decided to skip this one. Not much to do at the moment, so I'll give a listen.
