  1. Okay there be spilers in this post for anyone waiting for dvd's or website showings of this weekends fights. Stop reading now if that's the case.Gavin Rees lost his WBA light welterweight title by Ko in the twelth. A blind man could have seen that coming.Micheal Katsidis was knocked out in the 10th in his challege for Joel Casamayors lightweight championship. This one suprised me, Katsidis is young and tough as nails and Casamayor is old and has been looking very close to shot for a while now. So instead of the potential unified titilist Juan Diaz vs Linear champ Micheal katsidis match I'd been praying to the stars for, there's now the potential for unified champ Nate Cambell vs linear champ Casamayor. That might be pretty good come to think of it.

  2. Lovemore N'Dou (the lethargic one who Gavin Rees managed to beat easily)

Not to be an areshole who keeps nit picking your posts, but that was Souleymane M'baye who Gavin Rees beat.I agree with you about the crapness of the Hatton card, especially Hattons match. I've seen full page adverts in the paper and they don't even mention the opponents name, as he is just that, an opponent for a superstar to hammer. If you run a stadium show, you should have an opponent who merits a stadium. Joe Calzaghe did. Junior Witter is the obvious choice, but Hatton seems intent to duck him until he retires, with some bullshit about him not being a super star name. Well there are no super stars at 140 anymore, there were 2 years ago, when Miguel Cotto, Floyd Mayweather, Antonio Margarito and so on passed through the division and he took fights with Carlos Maussa and Juan Urango. But they've moved up and Hatton has proved he cannot hack it any higher than 140.I think Rees loses his title. I've seen the other guy once, fighting a much more motivated M'baye to a draw. He has a much more impressive record than Rees (it'd be hard not to). Then again the fight is in Wales so he better get a knockout. Why was Froch/Inkin postponed?
  3. I've seen both fights (thankyou, youtube), Marquez/Vasquez was excellent, I agreed with Vasquez winning. Marquez/Paquaio wasn't quite as exciting as it wasn't the all out war the other fight was, but it was an excellent boxing match which occaisonally broke down to a slug fest. I had Marquez up by a point, but it was close enough I'm not complaining about the decision.

  4. They are willing to pay for a fight against a guy who won't have fought for 15 months, in a loss, and has never held any major title at any point? That's pretty retarded of them, I'm a big boxing fan and even I've never heard of this guy, it's not like he's bringing any name value either.

The main reason because Rees is a light welterweight and Hatton is fighting at Welterweight at the moment. Also remember what a hard job he made of beating another poor champion (Mauser).

According to boxrec it's a light-welterweight contest for some minor title.
  5. I'm finding it harder to keep up with the big fights with so many of them going over to Setanta, but I caught this a couple of hours ago on youtube. I pariculairly liked big Macs' drunken stumble as he tried to get up and work out what day of the week it was. I had to get on the blower and rub my Grandads, who also likes his boxing, face in it as we've been arguing about the winner since this match was announced and I've been picking Haye. I hope he still packs that punch at heavyweight, he could shake some life back into that division.

  6. Fair point. you'll really enjoy it when you see it, I'd say it was better than the other 2 fights, and one of them was last years best fight so it stands a good chance of winning that award again.

  7. That heavyweight bout was insufferable, Ibragimov tries to jab a guy 7 inches taller and Klitschko looks terrified everytime he gets within a couple of yards of his opponant. Thank god John Duddy was on afterwards to wake me out of my coma, excellent fight.

  8. Anyone not picking Klitschko? I know he's got a reputation for having a glass jaw but he's miles bigger than Ibragimov and I've never seen Ibragimov display the kind of power that usually does in Klitschko.

  9. When I was clearing out my room today I found a mint condition World Wrestling Allstars event programme under my bed. Was wondering a value of it?

A program for a promotion that ran about 3 modestly successul tours and a couple of ppv's 6 years ago that only a handful of people even remember? I wouldn't get your hopes up for much.
  10. I've just got a PS3, and have been playing;Drakes fortune, which i'm really enjoying thus far. Though it does concern me that I only played it Saturday and Sunday and I'm already 47% through it. It looks stunning, the cut scenes are good, the shooting is very good fun. If they make a second one I'd like to see a bit more on the character interaction and puzzle solving side than the one man army killing everyone side, like in broken sword or something, but other than that it's very enjoyable.I also got Resistance, fall of men. I've only payed a bit of the campain mode so far, But I've had a few games online. I've never played anything online before, except about 5 minutes of chu chu rocket 8 years ago, because as a person who's non too computer savvy, it seemed like too much of an ordeal, but getting a game going was suprisingly easy, and some good fun even though I spend alot of time getting murdered by people who must play this game in their sleep or something.

  11. I finished Mario Galaxy today, the last level was a real fucking struggle but I did it after dieing about 40 times. Though it was a very enjoyable game on the whole and the only thing aside from Zelda that's made the Wii worth buying for me, I didn't like it as much as Mario 64, or the highly underrated Mario Sunshine. The contant going upside down and not being able to see where you're going or control the direction you're walking spoiled it a little for me.

  12. Having finally seen Hopkins vs Steve Forbes from the contender a few weeks ago all I can say is for Witters sake I hope he knocks him out conclusively. Anything else and he'll lose, I wouldn't be suprised to see the ref give Hopkins a 9 and a half, 9 and 3 quarters type count.

  13. Is that assuming Katsidis wins the proposed match with Joel Casamayor (as I expect him to)?I really, really hope ITV keep at least Amir Khan bouts on. The bi-monthly exposure on itv has contributed more to the recent boom in British boxings popularity than anything else.

  14. Hatton talk.

It's looking highly possible Ricky Hatton will be taking on Gavin Rees in his next fight, looking to regain his old WBA light welterweight title. Gavin Rees may have the most pathetic record of any "world" champion ever, more than half his fights have been with guys who've lost more then they've won, and he'd never fought anyone of even domestic title quality until he some how won that belt from a guy who must not have got enough sleep the night before or something. Hatton will murderize him. I don't know why they're talking about a fight in May though, does he really need 4 months to train for Gavin Rees?

  15. A question people; I'm looking to off load my Wii, with extra controllers and 5 games (wii play, wii sports, Zelda, Mario, Farcry), where would I get a better deal for it? At the highstreet shops or flogging it on ebay?

  16. Hatton Vs. Rees will be awful and I agree with you, Rees got the right guy on the right day to win that belt

As a fight probably, but it'd be good for Hatton, recent interviews he's done make him sound like a broken man, mentally. rees is as weak a world champion I've ever seen, smacking him arounf at the MEN arena before a sold out 100% pro Hatton crowd for a world title would be good nfor him and his fans.

Maliganggi is over rated. He has one good fight where he put up a brave battle against Cotto and can see Hatton smacking him around the same way

He looked good against Edner Cherry. He's got a fight coming up, we'll see how he does there. But it's a fight that could be high profile, not a "superfight", but a big one against a American with some name value that Hatton could win. Then hopefully he'd face Witter, put an end to all this ducking talk. If he rebuilds himself a bit then that is easily the biggest fight available to him at light welterweight. Taking a rematch against Mayweather, or staying at welterweight to fight Shane Mosley, Miguel Cotto, Oscar De La Hoya or anyone else pretty much guarantees defeat.

Ona side note, how do you think Froch will do against Inkin in March

I've never seen Dennis Inkin, so I'm not sure. This fight makes the winner Calzaghe's mandatory doesn't it? I like Froch, he leaves himself open with his sloppy defence but I think he beats anyone at super middleweight except Calzaghe or maybe Kessler.

Do you think if he wins then Calzaghe will take him on

Probably not. He's after big pay days and looks like he'll abandon super middle to fight Bernard Hopkins. I don't see what other fights are going to make him money in that division after Hopkins though, maybe after that he might fight Froch. If Calzaghe does leave the division I wouldn't mind Froch vs Kessler to declare a new leader of the division.
