  1. please does anyone know where i would be able to find old wrestling radio shows to download please ?

I'm going to assume you mean The Wrestling Radio Show, as broadcast in late 92/early 93? I have a few episodes on cassette tape somewhere (with me on them!), though the chances of me a) finding them anytime soon and b) being able to upload them anywhere are very slim at best. Here's an article that explains a bit more about the show/the channel it was broadcast on...

Christopher England talks about The Wrestling Radio Show and "Ian"

  2. Today then: another enjoyable show. Got a "we want more" chant going during D Taylor v C Cabana. It, unfortunately, backfired a bit, with our American friends thinking it was a criticism, rather than a Robbie Brookside reference. Brownies v All Night Express was my personal match of the weekend so far. Main went 5 mins too long, but otherwise good. Struggled with Strong v Generico, but that was more down to tiredness. Women's match was ten times better than night before...

  3. From the perspective of being there live, tonight's show was perfectly adequate; not necessarily worth going out of your way to see, but with nothing bad, and some good stuff at times. Tag title match was best, while main event felt like nothing of the sort. Great venue, with, primarily, a good crowd...

  4. When did 'tapping out' come into WWE as a method of submitting? When I stopped following WWF after Mania 11 you just told the ref you wanted to give, and by the time I got back into wrestling in 2000, tapping out had been introduced. Who brought the rule in?

I Believe it was first used around the time Ken Shamrock came in as this was the method that was used in UFC and WWE started to use it to look more legitimate.

The specific first time it was used was in Shamrock's first proper match during his 97-onwards stint, when he took on Vader in an IYH event following WM. Vader tapped in a very exaggerated way - almost like a Hebner-like slow three count - but they quickened the thing up soon enough. This would come back to bite them in the arse at Survivor Series 97, in a subtlty very rarely acknowledged; although Bret was always going to go mental about the screwjob, it was far more obvious to fans that he'd been done because they'd eliminated the verbal submission at this point, and it was visually clear that Bret hadn't given up...

  5. I remember seeing a few minor celebrities in the front row at a few of WWE's UK ppvs over the years, like Chris Tarrant, Eamonn Holmes, and Gianfranco Zola.

Have any celebs been in the crowd at UFC events over here?

England rugby union chief Martin Johnson was front row for the first London event, though I don't believe that was acknowledged on the TV broadcast...

  6. It was also the main draw of Slamboree 96, where any possibility of random drawing was completely absent, bearing in mind pretty much every match had either i) Enemies teaming ii) enemies against each other iii) regular partners ending up in a team. IIRC, it had 16 teams, with the winners progressing to another tag match, and then the finale. Combined with three or so non-tournament matches, it meant something like 16 matches on a pretty much wretched PPV. Russo brought the concept back for a tag title tournament in 1999, which was similiarly dodgy...

In 96 was this not the reason Eddie Gurrerro and DDP were fueding before the nWo invasion, due to them winnning the tag tourney and DDP nicking the ring?

While I do recall DDP having some sort of feud with someone or other over a ring, this isn't likely the reason, as the finale - like in all but the aforementioned Russo tag tourney version - was a battle royale, with every man for themselves. DDP may have used shenanigans to win this - like he was elminated from the battle royale, and then found a way back in behind the ref's back - but I don't recall properly...

  8. 3, Have any PowerSlam subscribers received this months issue yet as mine hasn't arrived.

    Cheers

My subscription ran out last month, so I don't know about subscribers. However, my local Tesco, which ALWAYS has it on time, didn't have it in when I checked this morning...

  9. Anybody know what the very first WWF UK VHS release was? Thanks.

It was three tapes on the same day. I'm 99% sure it was WrestleMania's Greatest Matches (one each from 1-4), High Flyers and Hulk Hogan Real American.

It was indeed. In addition, Summerslam 88 was made available on or around the same time as a mail-order release...

  10. Does anyone have match listings for all the WWF Wrestlefest videos? I'm sure i used to have '93 or '94 but cant remember which one.

From Pro Wrestling History Tape Guide -> http://www.prowrestlinghistory.com/videos/wwf/wwfindex.html

01/11/94 Rick & Scott Steiner vs. Bret & Owen Hart

Had that match had larger exposure it probably would have been a MOTYC for 94. Utterly terrific. Come to think of it, that entire tape is pretty great, and much of the Wrestlefest tapes are largely great - maybe not as great as the Supertape series (of which I remember Supertape 2 being pretty darned great, while Supertape 92 - not the 92nd in the series, you understand - had Tuesday in Texas on that)...

  11. When was Summerslam 92 switched from Washington DC to Wembley?

I recall during the ads of Survivor Series 91 there was a competition to win an all expenses paid trip to Washington for the show.

Just wondering when it was switched.

I don't know for certain when it was switched, but it was originally set for the Cap Centre in Landover, Maryland, which isn't too far from Washington. I seem to remember they ran a show there in the Spring of 92 which didn't draw well, which may have influenced their thinking in looking elsewhere, but it's more likely that they saw how much money they made every time they came over here in that time, and came up with a can't miss main event (I do believe that the show in its original location would have had Hart v Michaels in a ladder match)...

Interesting little aside to this - I've been catching up on recent Observer content today (my god, between the last few weeks of Observers and F4Ws, plus where the 1991 back issues are at, am I SICK of reading about f**king drugs in wrestling?), and Meltz mentions in a November 91 issue that WWF are considering holding one of their PPVs in Britain in 92. He mentions that time difference problems could be a stumbling block, but that doing it on a time delay wouldn't likely be a problem (unlike now, you would have thought). No mention in the article of it being Summerslam, though you probably could have quite easily deduced it at the time that it couldn't really have been anything other than that...

  13. Apparently so because I still don't know what I've missed

You think that Kenny was getting the Repo Man and Berzerker mixed up. He was not. He was referring to the fact that John Nord went onto be - and may still be - a car salesman after his wrestling career...

  14. How many wrestling promotions allow you to buy tickets at the door?

Erm...probably literally every wrestling company on earth - at least those that haven't had an advanced sellout (and even then, it might still be worth trying). I've even bought WWE tickets on the day of shows (admittedly, not in this country, and I did go to the arena a couple of hours before the doors opened)...

  15. Has anyone watched 'Human Weapon'?It's a history channel show, surrounding all manner of martial arts. It's prsented by Jason Chambers, and Bill Duff.My question is this, in the credits they announce Bill Duff as a former 'Professional footballer and wrestler', and I always assumed they just meant collegiate/olympic wrestler. But, on one of the episodes Jason makes a joke about Bill's 'pro-wrestling days'. I tried, admittedly not very hard, to find some information but couldn't. Does anyone know how far his pro-wrestling career went? ...I'm only interested because it seems he played football in the XFL, so was wondering if there was a WWE connection there.

He was trained by Larry Sharpe - The Monster Factory guy responsible for Bam Bam Bigelow. I'm not sure he ever actually had that many matches, and was probably more well known as a Gridiron guy. A really very good show is Human Weapon, by the way - far better than the Discovery Channel's copy "Fight Quest"...
  16. With the slew of 3PW DVD's out on the cheap at the mo, I'm wanting to get my hands on a couple. Can anyone recommend any of the shows?

I can't really point you towards specific discs, but the series between AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels was all the rage at the time. IIRC, they did two cracking singles matches (which might not be as good as their TNA clashes, though I haven't seen them for a long while), and were also involved in a pretty great four-way with...off the top of my head I think it was Chris Sabin and Joey Matthews. So, if any of all that's on the DVDs, probably worth getting them...
  17. What is Kip James being called now in TNA? He seems to have added a new nickname or something but I can't work out what is being said.

He's now going by the name "Cute Kip", which is the best gimmick he's ever had, and compliments the Beautiful People so well. He even dry humps the ropes like they do.
You really think he's doing well alongside them? If anything, he seems to have sucked a lot of the life out of the act. I wouldn't be against them adding a third member, but it's got be another gal (or at least if you're going to do a Rico-act, get the ACTUAL Rico)...
I love the three of them together. He works better as a third wheel than Mickie Knuckles did.
Actually, I'd agree with you on that one...
