A recent example you say? Perhaps the constant, ongoing abuse Shay Logan gets from the Celtic support for committing the crime of reporting racial abuse by one of your players.

And before you deflect with the "It's because he's a pure wanker and wind up merchant" excuse, before the racial abuse incident he played several times and scored against Celtic and their fans said fuck all - not a peep about him. I'm sure it's all just a coincidence that they boo him now.

Are the accusers always holy? Like I've said in this thread before, the absolute worst racial abuse I've heard in this country was at Pittodrie. Are 60,000 people at Celtic Park racist? Probably not. Have a word with yourself. Shay Logan is a cunt - so are some sections of the Celtic fans. Grow up.

  2. Just for you, David.

I love mock Old Firm outrage. I am a Hibs fan and I am quite happy to admit that I've seen deplorable behaviour from our fans in terms of racism and sectarianism (believe me, Celtic are not the only club with a Republican undercurrent).

But the narrative that it's all Celtic and Rangers' fault, that their nasty, bigoted fans are responsible for all this country's woes, that Scotland is an idyllic land of peace and tolerance is an absolute hoot. I've seen sectarianism and racist abuse at every ground in Scotland - the pinnacle being Pittodrie.

Gies peace. This thread is about the need to address the racism we see week in, week out - not score points or lap up your time on the high horse.

  3. A start would be getting our own house in order. Racism is deeply entrenched in British football. The casual abuse that we permit or think is acceptable because "it's just banter" needs to go. Take to Twitter of a weekend and you'll see live cases in point: calling Spurs fans "yids", denigrating Celtic's Irish roots or Aston Villa suggesting that their star player's father is a rasta. The list would go on I'm sure.

In fairness, football is a microcosm of society and I believe that these views are widely held nationally. It's easy to blame football as supporters are seen as thick and tribal. The reality is that Britain is equally culpable for racist behaviour - other nations just sing it in a more obvious and crass manner. The same toxic attitudes exist on the terrace here, and there is no immediate solution as our own parliament is a hotbed of prejudice.

For those that AEW has pulled back in.. did you ever try anything outside of WWE before now? Curious to know as there have been plenty of alternatives for a while now.

Yes. As I'm based in Scotland, I have attended 20+ ICW shows and they are a fun night out, but I can't pretend that I make an effort to follow their storylines when I'm not actively going. I tried TNA on and off for years but I could never get to grips with it, no matter how much I wanted to like it. I really enjoyed the Nakamura/Joe/Balor era of NXT but other than that, it is a subdivision of WWE for workrate pervs. I don't have the inclination to look to the past anymore, so that rules out things like the Network or other streaming services. I've dabbled in Japanese wrestling but to be honest, I thought my desire to watch had died. AEW might not be the answer long-term, but at this moment, I reckon it's the best thing going. It's fresh, Jericho is ostensibly on the form of his life, the production is nice and it seems to have semi-coherent booking. I'll take that for now and we'll see where it ends up.

  5. AEW has kind of rejuvenated my interest in wrestling. I started watching in 1993 and I would say that 2019 would mark a record low for the amount of time I've spent watching any kind of wrestling product. I find modern day WWE so repellent that I thought I was finished with wrestling - and don't make the mistake of thinking I'm one of these types who wants to 'rebel' against WWE. I watched their product solidly from childhood right through until about the start of 2018. I just don't relate to it anymore - the sterile production, the nonsense booking, the lack of stars and the perception that basically nothing changes in their landscape forced me out. My other interests are churning out top quality content at every turn in this day and age - why would anyone waste time watching wrestling? Their alliance with the Saudi regime was a huge turn-off and I haven't missed watching wrestling...

...until now. Don't get me wrong, AEW is far from perfect, but I have watched both episodes of their TV and I'll be watching again. There are teething issues that have been explored enough in this thread. But I've read a lot of stuff about how when the dust settles, we will all just retreat into our WWE shell and continue to consume their drab, bullshit product, no matter what they serve up. I'm at least one case where that isn't true - surely I'm not the only lapsed fan that AEW has pulled back in?

  6. It's a moot point anyway. "Big" teams in the British Isles always have crap atmospheres in home games. Old Trafford is a tourist trap. The Etihad is a morgue. That's before you even look at the London clubs, of which Chelsea probably have the best atmosphere which is a damning indictment. Anfield is maybe an exception. Celtic Park and Ibrox can produce some of the best atmospheres in Europe when they are full and it's an important game - but would you get excited about playing shite like Motherwell, Hamilton, Livingston or St Johnstone every week?

  7. Wolves play some lovely counter-attacking football, in fairness. They seem to have settled into the demands of juggling your league form with Europe. As a neutral, I couldn't be happier that Man City are 8 points behind. I don't actively hate them like I do Man United or Chelsea, but it was becoming tedious to see them stroll it every year. I don't see Liverpool blowing the lead like they did last season - they've got the refs behind them, after all!

Wrestling belts have always felt like - and always been - props. Like Thor’s hammer in the marvel films.

Thor's hammer is one of the most over properties in the Marvel films.

Our minds were meant to be blown when Vision tooled about with it in 'Age of Ultron' and it was perceived as Captain America getting the biggest rub ever by commanding its powers in 'Endgame'.

Comparing WWE and Marvel in terms of attributing prestige or importance to their intellectual properties is redundant anyway. WWE have an embarrassment of riches at their disposal and can't even get their top stars over. Marvel turned a whole slate of their lower midcarders into powerhouse box office draws.

  9. I've never heard of Josh Bodom, but I've had a look at this video and not only should all of his wrestling bookings be cancelled and have him black-balled from performing in the industry again - he should feel the full weight of the law and should be jailed for his actions. It's clear as day from the footage, and if you did this in a pub you would serve time for it.

Maybe fans who are seeking justice should share this video with the police.

Undisputed highlight of the evening has to be the bloke representing Slavia Praha completely creasing himself upon seeing they were in a group with Barcelona, Inter and Dortmund. The kind of spirit you love witnessing.

It was funny, but come on. Zac Dingle talking about cancer and wars was the undisputed highlight.

I still don't see Brexit happening at all, because it doesn't make sense that they would send May out there all that time to filibuster if they were just going to give up and let Boris do the whole thing.

  12. This is all that's wrong with football nowadays, sadly. Lower league teams with over 120 years of history could now disappear. Those fans will be lost to football if these clubs vanish from existence and for some, a way of life. This is proper lower league life and my heart goes out to the fans of Bury Football Club. Unfortunately, this is the tip of the iceberg and there must be others under the same pressure in financial terms. It may be the start of clubs at that level starting to fall apart, especially in League One and Two. That is before you get to the likes of some clubs with long histories in Scotland who basically need to stay up every season to keep the lights on.

  13. I routinely overuse the phrase "fiddling while Rome burns" to emphasise the inefficacy of the shitheads in my work who could not seem to organise a piss up in a brewery: the People's Front of Judea type cunts who need to have a pre-meeting before the pre-meeting before the meeting.

An example would be "WE ARE UP TO OUR EYES IN WORK AS THOSE USELESS CUNTS ARE FIDDLING WHILE ROME BURNS". People have noticed it and it came up a few times on work nights out etc. At this rate, my retirement card will have a picture of Nero with his balls out or something.

  14. The Undertaker beating Stone Cold for the WWF title at Over the Edge 1999. Not that a pre-determined wrestling result could be compared to the tragedy that occurred that night, but the whole thing just felt very hollow and unnecessary in the wake of Owen's death. I haven't seen the PPV since around that time, but I remember thinking even as a 10 year old that the matches shouldn't have been going ahead.

Ask him if I book a concert in Aurora, Illinois, will the bands come?

Not just a place, but a state of mind.

I can only imagine the BritWres version of Wayne's World 2. Instead of Ed O'Neil, you'd have Kriss Sprules being the doom-monger as Black Lace turn up to save the day in the Coventry Skydome. A bit of kwesh being passed around instead of the red rope liquorice.

  16. The priest who married my brother and his wife is a particularly smug and annoying tosser who is obsessed with the finery (read: pretensions) of the church. I'm not particularly religious, and I do love a petty revenge story, so I ruffled all his garments and robes and moved various chalices around "backstage" before the wedding. I think they call it a sacristy.

She's got something. And she has a genuine connection with her fans that Seth could only dream of. I don't think anyone's ever claimed she's the best wrestler in the world or anything. Not at all. But she managed to put herself in a very strong position and WWE have failed to capitalise on it after Ronda's exit. The Man should be easy to book but they overcomplicate things all the time. And have shown little interest in keeping the division's momentum going after Ronda.

Becky might have "something", but calls to position her as being at the same level of Austin, Hogan etc is absolutely laughable.

  18. They really killed Becky's heat when she didn't beat up R-Truth to win the Men's Rumble, tap out Ronda clean at WrestleMania then beat Austin in Saudi Arabia while giving the crown prince the finger and crotch chop...

...or maybe she's just another solid hand who got lucky by breaking her eye socket, providing a great image. A pleasing but unremarkable performer who went ice cold after people lost interest. Oh, and who has terrible taste in men.

Which one? Maybe I should get my eyes tested, because I see two racist, bloated, hateful Tory bastards in this picture.
