    Helldivers 2 is hella fun.

I bought it last week but have yet to become properly acquainted with it...as I am doing my first NG+ playthrough of Elden Ring. First completed the game in June 2022 - and it took me until about 6 hours into this file to understand what Great Runes/Rune Arcs actually do. I'm a berk.

Obviously, NG+ makes everything a lot more straightforward, so I'm glad I've started it with Shadow of the Erdtree coming out in the summer. I

I've tried getting into the first game, to no avail. I was promised Twin Peaks, but I don't feel like - from what I've played - that it managed to do that. With that in mind, is there even any point trying the sequel? It sounds creative as hell, so I'd kind of like to, but I'm certainly apprehensive.

I would stick with it, if possible. The first game is quite janky and is probably showing its age a little, but it's still a great game and you get a lot of out of the story.

The mechanics in Alan Wake 2 are similar, but graphically, it is obviously a huge step up. It's a totally unique experience: I can't really think of anything else to compare it with.

  3. Late to the party with Alan Wake 2. I played through the remastered version of the first game in preparation.

I'm not sure if I mean this calendar year or 2023, but whatever I mean, it's my game of the year (and in the face of some stiff competition). I have never seen anything quite as great as the 'We Sing' chapter in a video game: the most ingenious tutorial/refresher ever?

Away to practice the dance to 'Herald of Darkness' in the mirror. Again.

  4. Not to say that pundits of old were poetlaureates or anything of the sort, but the vocabulary of most pundits really has gone down the toilet of late. The greatest hits usually include:

    - Repeatedly referring to a player's attributes (pace/range of passing/finishing ability) as "frightening"

    - Referring to talented players as "a joke"

    - "STOP THAT!"

You actually tend to find the best pundits around are Scottish: Ally McCoist is the best in the business because his unbridled enthusiasm blends well with his insight (if you can tolerate him shouting 'AAABSHOLUTELY, JON - HE'S DONE EVER SO WELL THERE!') But even the likes of Michael Stewart give you an insightful, intelligent account of what is going on without resorting to cringeworthy platitudes or using playground terms to articulate themselves.

  5. Taylor's Hot Buffalo Wings flavour. My word.

We had a family party at ours on Saturday and my brother-in-law brought these. I imagine they're more readily available in Edinburgh, but Sainsbury's may stock them (they are on their online catalogue but showing as out of stock).

The texture of the ridge-cut is very pleasing and the flavour is delightful. I imagine these will be pricey but worth it if you can get your hands on them.

Amazon are doing 8x share bags for £21.

Where are people streaming Fist of the North Star? I haven't seen it for years and would like to go back to it.

  7. Managed to get about four hours of Mortal Kombat 1 in last night. Absolutely tremendous. It has managed to strike an impeccable balance of seeming totally new and fresh while retaining the familiarity and legacy built up by previous entries in the series. I reckon if you're a fan of MK or if you're looking for a reason to buy a next-gen console, then this could be it for you: the stages in this game are absolutely beautiful to look.

  8. "Off the surfboard, into the drink - what a wazzock!"

I just don't understand how the original of Takeshi's Castle could be improved by a remake. Part of the charm was how dated and alien it looked - and the whole thing was dramatically elevated by Craig Charles narrating in some Bravo one-man studio, no doubt smoking crack and not having the remotest clue what was going on.

  9. Seems like a very specific request - is there anywhere that has a recommended playlist of decent episodes of The Simpsons from the last 10-15 years or so?

I'm like everyone else in that I'm a devotee of the golden era but haven't watched the new ones in decades. I would quite like to watch some of the newer ones on Disney+ if they're good. The thought of watching all 34 seasons does seem like an unnecessary penance.

  10. The "Alert!" music in the first Metal Gear Solid game is possibly the greatest piece of music in video game history. I don't think anything else has ever realised the intended outcome so well:   the high-energy panic it creates is so memorable.

I'll be honest not sure my anxiety can handle a whole season of that (and we will get absolutely battered soon whilst the system is still embedding) but my god that was fun. Just happy to feel something again.

Bissouma playing like prime Zidane. Lovely stuff. I'm off to listen to some Men At Work and call everyone a flaming gallah. Up the Spurs.

It will happen. Celtic took a 0-4 tanking in the Europa League to Bayer Leverkusen in Ange's first season in a game that could have been 4-4. Celtic played well that night, which seems like a total paradox to say. He will have to go through a spell of this: today, he's the greatest thing since sliced bread but the nature of England is that if they lose to Bournemouth next week, the microscope will be out and doubts over his pedigree. Spurs fans should hold firm and keep quietly expecting: Ange rebuilt Celtic over a very short spell of time and dethroned a Rangers team who were unbeaten the season before and who had done well in Europe (and got to a European final the next season).

He is a man of substance and won't get dragged into the bullshit and the circus of the Premier League. You will observe weekly improvement. And the football can be irresistible at times, to be honest.

  12. I think The Rock suffers more from 'main character syndrome' than just about anyone you could mention. For all of his charisma and talents (they're definitely there), he doesn't have the innate leading man qualities that the likes of Tom Cruise, Clint Eastwood, Harrison Ford or Arnold Schwarzenegger have. The wrestler in him cannot help but compensate for this in other ways by grabbing as much TV time as he can. Donating $1m to the strike fund is very kind and charitable, but if you heard that an A-list actor had done this before you read the name, you would have put your mortgage on Dwayne.

He also hyped a ten-year (or what felt like it) build for Black Adam that changed the entire direction of the DC product. When it went utterly tits up, what was his response? A meandering, messianic promo about how important the process was. I think Tom Cruise did it a lot more succinctly when he said in the M:I press junkets that he was only interested in making movies that got people into the cinema - I think that's the kind of outcome Dwayne craves and feels that he can offer. To everyone else, he's a big A-list action star. I think in his head he feels that he can affect change in the industry to Arnold/Stallone levels and is probably getting frustrated that it's not happening, despite his billions.

  13. As a PS5 owner, I'm beginning to look enviously at the Xbox Game Pass. I am a teacher and I'm about to go on my summer holidays and, with June's pay packet and the permission of my wife, I'm going to treat myself.

I probably don't even use the features/get the most out of my PS5 as it is, so would I be safe enough with buying a Series S for making use of the Game Pass etc? The Series X sounds like an immense piece of equipment, but I think I would feel guilt in having two top-end consoles that I don't make full use of.

Basically - looking a bit of advice from Series S owners. Is it a good purchase?!

  14. I think that's what would keep Punk awake at night more than anything: that a recording artist with almost zero experience carries himself, performs like and ultimately is a bigger star than he could ever dream of being.

I think the quality acts in wrestling are really showing Punk up for what he is right now. He's old, he's knackered, he's angry and he's a couple of steps away from shouting at the clouds.

  15. Why the feck have I never played Chivalry 2 before?! Downloaded it on Saturday evening and I'm having fun pissing about on it. Anyone on here play? I need recommendations as to which class to play as just when I think I have found a niche, I end up on a horrendous streak and I have to start again.

  16. If you own a black suit, wear it with black shoes and then buy a black shirt (in a packet). Use the white cardboard from the packaging of the shirt to make a dog collar, buy a cheap grey wig off Amazon and hey presto - you are Father Ted Crilly. I put this outfit together a number of years back for less than a tenner (I already had the suit) and nearly everyone I met knew exactly who I was on sight.

  17. I know we've already had the Iceman a few times, but it's truly mental that we've gone six pages without bringing the most clinical finish in football history to the table. Accompanied by the best commentary of all time, Bergkamp's touch, set up then finish is unparalleled here. Absolutely lethal - still remember watching this as a kid in complete awe.
