  1. This is a really tough one to call. Houchen was more... UKFF.. in his raps, his sense of humour and delivery has an off topic vibe about it. Harmonic Generator is someone I've never really noticed as a poster before but his references, structure and rapping ability are superb.

    So, I go for HG.

Also: No man who has seriously rocked a mullet post 1990 can diss my haircut!

  2. I'm not mad on Synkro to be honest. Everybody knows and Tell Me are good, but everything else he's done has been average. Saw him play a small gig in Manchester where he blew the sound system and just acted like a right penis.

Phaeleh is probably the most consistent producer in my eyes. He's playing in Manchester on my birthday weekend and I'm fucking psyched for it.

There's a top, top, top lineup for this night in London next thursday. Phaeleh, Ilum Sphere, Hiatus & Shura, Owsey... If anyone out there likes a bit of ambient dubstep you need to check this night: https://www.facebook.com/events/334098566628616/

I cannot recommend Lowdown enough. If you can make it to one it is well worth the entrance free. The blurb from the facebook:

"The combination of Sound Controls basement club and Loft and the Electro-Tech-Breakbeat-Bass heavy sounds are perfect for the vibe we are creating

Lowdown & Dirty covers various aspects of electronic dance music. Hosted by residents Resistance & Ash Howell together with world class acts each month. Mixing a funky selection of bass-heavy Breakbeat, Electro, Tech-Funk and Techno, Dubstep and bits of everything else thrown in to create an amazing party, the only rule being its bass heavy!

After such a great 12 months which has seen top class acts such as Elite Force, Meat Katie, Splitloop, Krafty Kuts, Stanton Warriors, Freestylers, Hybrid (Live), A-Skillz, A Dominant Species & Matt Howson all rocking the dancefloor, and taking the top spot at the Breakpoll International Breakbeat Awards in London for the best small club/event (under 1000 capacity) we will continue to bring you a fantastic clubbing experience month in, month out"

  3. I've never been into house. To me it's bare, overly repetitive and devoid of any depth. Now obviously been a fan of electronic dance music I can't chastise it purely for being repetitive, it's just a groove that doesn't move me. I could dance for 3 hours to an amen break or something syncopated, but not house.

Currently I'm all over ambient dubstep. As in, it's pretty much all I listen to at home or on the bus when I want to relax. The rolling sub bass, dreamy melodies, ethereal strings, trancey synths, distorted vocals... I just fucking love it.

    1:Submerse - Never Again

Just how good is that Submerse tune? It's extacy for my ears. I first discovered the genre when looking for new burial stuff a couple of years ago and coming across Solitudes mixes. I've never looked back.

When I go out clubbing it's generally to bass heavy High BMP dance nights. Breakbeat, Tech-Funk, Drum and Bass. I'm a mainstay at Lowdown & Dirty, winner of best small event at Breakspoll last week. Its the best night out for pounding syncopated beats in the country for me. Favourite producers/DJ's of the scene include Beat Assassins, Stanton Warriors, Elite Force, Steve Thorpe, Freestylers.

This is what i want a night out to look like

  4. I actually prefer 'Loner' off the new Burial EP. Either way, it's the best release of the year by far. it's been a poor start to the year overall musically, no classic album (you could make a case for Alcest but for me it's merely good).

I'm a little out the loop on the house and techno front at the minute though so I daresay once I catch up on that there'll be some gems, I did enjoy the new Todd Terje EP, and I think the John Talabot album will be perfect for the summer when I get to know it a bit more.

House is having a massive resurgence at the moment, especially with the casual fashion followers. Which is a shame because I can't fucking stand house.
