Not at all. That's really useful to hear. Thanks. To be honest I'll take what they're worth, I was just worried someone might get something off me that's worth a bit more purely because im clueless.

If these are still available come October time give me a shout as Ill be looking for Birthday presents for a little un.

  2. So even though I signed up before the free month it looks like wwe have unsubscribed me as of this morning. Never Intended to cancel the network ever but as they've done it for me I might just keep it that way. Really poor service

I had the same problem till I cleared my cookies out and logged in and it worked mine.

  3. Two quick questions.

    1. I recall a incident in WCW I think might have been 96 time on Nitro where Nash seemingly Punked Schavoine out threatening to break his knee caps or something & Tony looked like he was about to cry as Zbyszko obviously found humor in it with a smirk. Was this a legit shoot as I couldnt find any info on what the incident was about unless it was some odd worked thing over Outsiders having to face Faces of fear & The Nastys.

    2. Apart from WWE & TNA are there any other wrestling companies on TV on Sky? I recall Men & Movies used to air World of Sport a while ago but guess they no longer have the rights to it anymore. Not sure when it finished or how long it ran for.

  4. Been keeping a eye on this for the past couple of days and its a fantastic read. Brought back so many great memories of the Wrestling Channel as I remember it well. Must have drove my parents crazy the amount of hours I sat in front of the TV watching this great channel.

I remember the test run I think in 2004 around Mania time and enjoyed everything on there alough at times I wished new content would turn up but hey thats what a test run is for I guess. I followed the channel for a few years and they had some great wrestling and shoots too even though at times wondered why the shoots were in 2 parts and I think sometimes the second part wasent showing up on the sky guide ie Ricky Steamboat part 2 one.

Spent a shit load on blanks back then to record as much as I could from Mexico, Memphis, Brit stuff and all those indy fed and the channel was very much appreciated Herbie, a big thankyou to you for getting it running. Loved that MLW show that aired.

Anyway appologies for hijacking the thread with pics but the memories here got me thinking to try and dig out some of the stuff I recorded back in the day and thought id share them to bring back old memories.

If you ever write a book or do a website detailing the history of the channel dont hesitate to message me as I could help you out with listings for what CMLL showed and when as I tried to date everything as best I could.

  5. I was doing a google search to find out what Nitros had been edited and I got got directed to a post that said Nitro 8/5/96 and the 12/9/96 show have exclusive footage not shown on the original broadcast. Is this the only Nitros to contain footage like this on the Network? Or have certain Raw episodes done the same thing.

  6. How many wrestling personalities have had music albums produced?

Aside from the WWE & TNA albums I can only think of Hulk Hogan, Brooke Hogan, Lita, Jericho, Jillian Hall, Stone Cold Country/Metal & Mickie James.

    Am I missing anyone else?

  7. Cheers..didnt know there was that much WWF on british TV that early, i think you're right too about Raw stll being on fridays in around Wrestlemania 20, I think  they went live over here not long after though probably within the year. Prob been asked lots too but was there ever WCW ppvs on Sky? I know Nitro was on when Cartoon Netwrok went to sleep and TNT came on

Ok heres what I can remember going through my great big book of wrestling on sky I wrote everything down I taped.

We used to get All American Wrestling on a Friday night at 10pm in 1989 where as Superstars seemed to come on a Saturday dinner time possible 12pm. Around the week of Feb 90 they removed All American and replaced it with Wrestling Challenge I believe it was the Smash/Haku show that was when the change started. Something happened later on in the year because the two shows seemed to have swapped their timeslots instead.

Wrestlemania 5 I saw when they aired it in Feb 1990 because they made the fans wait to see the Hogan/Savage TME show around 5am in the morning but they aired the full Mania 5 show before it on Sky One. No idea how long it ran but I used a 4 hr tape took all the ads out and it only just fit on the tape.

Now Raw debuted on Sept 5th 1995 on Sky Sports because the first show was the big HBK/Sid title match but before then we had Todd on Mania to show us what happened before then. I know we never got Heat until Channel 4 bought the rights from 2000, Action Zone I know we got at 5pm on a Sunday mind you with different commentators. Shotgun we got alough we never got any of the Nightclub action but with that & Superstars same matches with different commentary. Live wire I remember but no phonecalls so a UK version but when that ended we got WWF Blastoff a similar thing & Dok Hendrix hosting a Shotgun Challenge show.

Raw in 95 tended to be a 5pm timeslot but it went to 10pm I think when HBK/Yokozuna was the big match after Summerslam 96 as it was cut to pieces before then no bulldog/hbk brawl after the slap or mankind hitting the casket. I know we used to get Prime Time Wrestling in 1990 from Jan onwards as dont recall it airing in 89 as checked all over the place. Later it moved to Sky Sports I think on a monday but as that was a school night it was hard to remember to tape it like Challenge did. I think it kept moving all over the place. I need to check my book for actual dates I wrote down for that.

Eurosport aired SWS a WWF/NJPW show & Screensport in 1990 aired USWA Texas 1990 stuff & Lifestyle in 1990 would air WCCW from random years. I can easily piece the matches on these shows if anyone needs more info.

WCW stuff pretty much covered on DSF we got Nitro in 2 parts, PPV, Sat Night, Worldwide.

TNT didnt give us Nitro until the beginning of april 96 which then it was a couple weeks behind. ITV in 1991 gave us WCW Pro at 1.50am in the morning before March 1992 it moved to mid day and we got worldwide instead.

I remember Raw 97 the first 2 hr show we had to wait separate weeks to see it. They wouldnt give us the 2nd hr till the next week which I recall alot of the ECW invasion was cut out of some shows and highlights put on Mania/Livewire and they skipped out the Taz/Lawler stuff the Raw that showed the highlights of the german euro title because we got the full show so wouldnt suprise me if they quietly did that to get us more up to date.

WCW was also on Sky Sports in 1991 as I have a few shows of that it was Power Hour remember Sting pinning Flair and Gonzalez counted the pin.

  8. I think these two stories were mixed up. They did try to get the Bret Hart-Marty Jones match for the Dungeon set but it took ages to find somebody with the authority to make a decision to offer it for license and then the price was something utterly ridiculous that was a polite way of saying no, like with Metallica and Enter Sandman.

FWIW, BBC had to pay a five figure sum just to use clips of Daddy-Haystacks in the Timeshift documentary and on The One Show, neither of which were being sold on DVD.

Apparently ITV have no interest whatsoever in selling the library as a whole rather than licensing it as they did to the Wrestling Channel.

How much footage is out there of the ITV days? Did they keep everything they recorded for World of Sport?

I think The Wrestling Channel aired 178 episodes according to the guide but I couldnt find any info on what Movies & Men aired or even which years they aired. I presume they didnt show the same stuff TWC showed.

  9. Does anyone know anything about WWF international broadcasts?

I was going through some info on the net and alough there was a international show for people who didnt get the US version of shows like Superstars/Challenge I noticed 2 shows called Cavalade & Wrestling Canada.

Did these shows air the same matches the international ones did or was it a completely different set of matches?

  10. Is there anyone here who is in charge of Wrestle Talk TV?

Im trying to find out what guests they had on certain episodes but cant find a guide anywhere online.

On a side note why is the UK Television show region blocked on youtube? Seems a little odd old episodes cant be watched in the UK.

  11. Cool artwork!

not only did Ultimate Warrior have the best wrestling look ever, he also had the best wrestling name!!

The Warrior also had probably the most impressive record too.

Maybe a more historic guy would fill in the blanks but apart from the odd Andre loss in Italy 88, Rick Rude loss at Wrestlemania 5 & Slaughter at Royal Rumble 1991 did he lose any other bouts?

I recall a old Superheroes in Action video tape showed Warrior losing to Randy Savage I think at Boston due to interference by Rick Rude but outside Royal Rumble matches im finding it hard pressed to find anything from his first WWE run where he lost.

  12. Really sad news. One of the guys I really enjoyed as one of my favs of all time.

I really think WWE should stop selling the self destruction DVD and replace it with a positive version as heard they recorded interviews in a positive light. So would love to see that version.

    RIP

  13. EDIT: Sorry, didn't see the longest match bit. Obviously that was an hour too.

Gorilla Monsoon claimed on a episode of All American Wrestling when talking to Johnny Pollo (Raven) that his longest match was 2 hours.

Was that legit as ive heard Flair claim he did a 2 hr match once but cant find a shed of proof anywhere.

  14. Has anyone heard anything about the World of Sport revival from last year?

I remember hearing rumblings about it being taped in November last year and one side said it was being taped for broadcast in 2014 and another side said it wasent but some were pretty sure it would be televised and well wondered if there is a update on the whole thing.

  15. How many times has Cena wrestled Undertaker on TV? I know they had a PPV match at (I think) Vengeance 2003. Pretty sure I remember Cena beating Undertaker in the #1 contender tournament on Smackdown. Any more?

Apart from Vengeance & the number one contenders also

    Smackdown June 24th 2004

    Raw October 9th 2006

  16. This reminded me of one I've tried unsuccessfully to track down.

J.R., in full hype mode, yelling "STONE COLD! ... IS THE TOUGHEST SON OF A BITCH!! ... I EVER SAW!!!"

It must have been 1998/1999 because it's on the "Austin 3:16 Uncensored" video/dvd, but I can't find the actual footage of when he said that.

    Anyone remember that?

Thats a easy one. JR says it at the end of Over the Edge 1998 just before Austin walks over ref Mcmahons body. I remember it as seen the match over 100 times as it has always been one of my favourites.

    Fast forward to 42:30

The other one from the intro could be something JR would have said at KOTR 98 or maybe when Austin beat Rock for the belt at mania. I dunno but sounds like a PPV where austin won.

  17. Ive been thinking about adding some Japanese wrestling to my collection however if there are any Puro guys on here who could point me to some good stuff.

Ive basically got AJPW stuff from 83 - 89 and New Japan side 1991 - 96ish. Have a handful of Noah & GAEA stuff that whatever The Wrestling Channel broadcasted when they were about. AJW stuff stacks from 80s to late 90s.

Hustle a few of the first few shows & SWS all the stuff Eurosport aired.

Would there be anything else around these years or other promotions I should be looking out for?

  18. Do we have a list of things on WWE shows that Sky refused to air?

    1. Trish Stratus "barking like a dog".

    2. Lita's beatdown by Austin and Triple H

    3. Undertaker slicing his wrists

    4. Muhammad Hassan tries to behead the Undertaker

    5. Katie Vick.

    6. The "Mandible Claw" from about April 1996 to November 1996. Anybody remember that period? Any hard looking punches were bring censured by going to a crowd shot.

    Any others? Cheers!

Sky was terrible in 1996 I noticed at times comparing the US tapes I aquired to the UK versions I recorded.

The cornette line "you laid your bed, and you tried to get Diana in it" got cut as they went to break after the slap.

Alot of the Taker/Mankind angles got cut like the locking up in the casket while it got hit by a stick.

All the Sable Playboy stuff in 1999 got cut as well.

For Superstars I do remember watching the JBL/HBK match and when Shawn goes for SCM the screen flickers a white flash just as the foot hits the chin. I remember on some bits when they panned to the crowd it was some guy shouting something like you sold out or something where he points to the ring 3 times.

Powerslam magazine once claimed that a HBK interview by Pillman in the ring was shown on Raw but I dont recall it on the UK version.

Plenty of Stone Cold fingers were edited as you can see in 1999 they focussed on Steves face more during the UK airing where you see the finger in the states. Even at times with beer drinking they were doing wide shots for no reason on UK tv or at times we got a edited ending of the show where the copyright info at the end of the broadcast looked a different place to what US got.
