  1. Now a rant. I got tickets for the next Manchester show today, it is always a bit of a mad rush to get them, but you can't blame Progress for being so popular. I've still not worked out the logic behind their midday sale time, but doesn't affect me too much.

What was annoying is that previously Gold tickets have covered rows 2 and 3 and the front row of the staging, so I ordered these again.

Now apparently they only cover rows 2/3, while the front row of the stage comes under Front Row tickets. Now apparently this change was announced along with their price rise on this blog post - but you would have to be pretty eagle eyed to notice it. There was no mention of it on the promo e-mail or tweets for the tickets, or at yesterday's show. On the tickets website, it no longer said 'front row of stage' on the gold tickets, but made no mention of it on Front Row tickets, so again many people wouldn't have seen that.

Now it won't be a big deal for most people, but there are about a dozen seats on that front row of the stage and if as I suspect a lot of people won't have seen that mention, there will be a dozen people trying to sit on those seats with Gold tickets and a dozen more who have purchased Front Row only to find they are stuck on the stage. Could lead to a bit of bad feeling.

I did tweet them about it, but got a rather curt reply directing me to that blog post.

I do worry that, given their massive popularity, they are eschewing customer service issues - like announcing that seating policy change more prominently - in the knowledge that if we don't come, the seats will quickly sell to someone else anyway.

I enjoy Progress and will go to the show and enjoy it, but it has left a bad feeling that I missed out on getting the seats I enjoyed, just because of a poorly advertised change of policy.

  2. Second half opened with Deputy Dunne v. Gibson v. Sexsmith v. Mambo - a solid match but didn't really advance the storylines anywhere.

Pete Dunne v. Eddie Dennis was something special and War Machine v. Trent and Tyler was superb. Only slight criticism was that the matches had some similar spots and maybe not best suited to running back-to-back. The Dunne v. Dennis match might have been better to close the first half, with Banks v. Riddle in this spot, or the fatal four-way inbetween the two.

  3. Bit of a slow start here. The opening tag was excellent but the ref f*cked up on the finish (Roberts of course!)

TBone v. Mike Bird was fine but didn't feel like a Progress match, just a standard BritWres filler match. Crowd quiet.

The women's match started slow but kicked in half way through to a solid finish.

Banks v. Riddle was epic as you would expect.

Bit random, Moose is here with Ashton Smith. Sat near merch tables watching first half, not sure if they will be involved at all or just here for the show?

  4. Kayfabe: How many wrestlers have spent long hours stood at the Gorilla Position just waiting and hoping their arch rival makes a "there is no-one in the back who can stop me" promo so they can run-in?

  5. Good show.

Opened with minute's silence and Lillian Garcia singing the bational anthem.

    Ohno def. Wolfgang

Seven, Andrews and Gallagher def. Moss, Sabatelli and ?

    Riot def. Cross

Dunne def Strong  (!) title present but not held up.

    Black def Young and Almas

AOP def Wolfe & Daim for tag titles

Asuka and Aliyah def. Royce and Kaye

    Roode def. McIntyre for title.

Crowd lively throughout. All upper sections taped off. Speaking to people, a lot had come from the Manchester bookings. Might have been quite quiet without them.

  6. Interestingly, just found this card for the Leeds show on the FD Arena site, apparently from back in April, but predicting lack of DIY, Dillinger and Nakamura, as well as Dunne's gaining of the UKC title.

    https://www.firstdirectarena.com/venue-information/latest-news/article/wwe-nxt-matchcard/4954/

    Kassius Ohno v Bobby Roode

    Asuka/Aliyah v Peyton Royce/Billie Kay

UK Championship Match - Roderick Strong v Pete Dunne

    Aleister Black v Andrade Almas

    Sanity v AOP

    Ruby Riot v Nikki Cross

    Jack Gallagher/Mark Andrews v Tino Sabatelli/Riddick Moss

    Drew McIntyre v Wolfgang

More recently, the tag main event has been confirmed for Almas/Roode v. Black/McIntyre so there are going to be some changes from this, but I'm more interested in the R.Strong v. Dunne match for the UK Championship. It has still not been stated if the title is only for UK Wrestlers but it certainly seems to be, so having Roddy go for the belt will be rather surreal if it happens.

Aside from that one tweet in March, has there been anything else to say he was coming? He never featured in anything on TV and I don't recall him being used on a poster. And don't forget 'Card Subject to Change', the promoter's Get Out a of Jail card

No, but it was widely reported in March after the tweet, including by some of the venues and given he is not injured it is a shame they couldn't get him to the show.

I think they could have got a lot of interest from British indy fans in the tour had they advertised Nakamura versus a different British talent on each show of the tour - Dunne, Andrews, Seven, Bates, etc.

Quite like the look of that card. McIntyre vs Roode will be good, Jose and Gallagher should be loads of fun, and you get to see Peyton in person. I'd buy a ticket if I were in Aberdeen.

Yes, certainly not complaining about that...! Fortunately my good lady will be too busy swooning over Mr Galloway/McIntyre to be able to chastise me as well.

Is Ember Moon back now then?

They had a brief section on the last NXT show showing her getting a medical release.

  9. UK tour next week, I'm going to Leeds, but the roster has been pretty reduced since the shows were advertised. No Dillinger, no Nakamura (despite them saying he definitely was coming) and now no DIY.

This card has been posted for the Aberdeen show, guess most of them will be similar, although no sign of Neville who is apparently on this tour and T-Bone featured prominently on one of the promotional videos, so might sub in for Wolfgang in England.

I was hoping they might split the UK guys up a bit and have them go against the regulars. Would be pretty neat to see Pete Dunne against Bobby Roode for example.

  10. Just curious, they are talking about the "fan experience" not being so good at the Brixton Academy last year, anyone got any gen on this? Wasn't there, just curious.

Might have to go to the big show, but means an overnight coach back up to Bradford for work on Monday....

  11. I was actually expecting Jimmy Havoc to come out at the end. I had seen him earlier going into the venue in a black hoodie looking like he was trying to be inconspicuous. But then thinking about it, that would have been a little bit samey. He had his shots and lost so ot is time for someone completely new to take on the challenge. That is good booking.

Session Moth is like Joey Ryan and Mad Man Manson. Having fun but actually able to wrestle too and those two certainly never 'harmed' men's wrestling. I think too many generic MMA attired female wrestlers with no personality would be more harmful to the scene.

  12. Seriously good ch48 in Manchester.

    Spoilers.

Drake v. Webster was a solid opener. Webster progressing to SSS16

Jinny v. Session Moth was a fun little match. Jinny winning by asphyxiating Moth with a carrier bag.

Sweet Jesus v. Riots was excellent with a few comedy spots to open then a really strong back and forth. SJ took the win and hope to see a lot more of them.

Travis Banks v. Trent Seven was as good as you would expect from these two. Some excellent near falls. Trent got the win with a big handful of tights.

Rockstar Spud v. Nathan Cruz was a good solid match. Cruz came out to his own theme and video so not sure if Origin is dead. Probably got the best pure heat of the night (along with Jinny). Cruz picking up the win and going to SSS16.

Tyler Bates v. Matt Riddle in a non title match. Excellent as you would expect from these two. Some amazing roll through into submissions. Ended when Trent interfered as Tyler looked to tap out to a Bromission hold. DQ.

Pete Dunne (c) v. Mark Haskins v. Mark Andrews. It was slight odd to have two faces against a heel and Dunne has a lot of support so split crowd. Great mix of high flying and submission, a couple of clever double submission holds. Ended with Bates and Trent running down (in WWE gear) to distract ref and break up a submission hold. Dunne got a pinfall on Andrews (I think) to retain.

BSS stood tall saying they were dominant. Riddle came out but was beaten down. Then Dunne gave the classic NO-ONE is better and can stop them... cue music... CCK hit the ramp to an insane pop. Cleared the ring as BSS fled. Crowd were chanting for CCK for about 10 minutes.

  13. TK Cooper and Dahlia got pretty good heat until their last appearance. Cruz similarly gets good heat, particularly in his matches against Ligero.

Crowd was rather split on Ospreay and Travis Banks. Too impressive to boo.

Some excellent matches lined up for Manchester, looking forward to the show. Wish I had got tickets for SSS16, hesitated for a moment and they had gone!

  14. Brilliant show yesterday, such a fun afternoon of wrestling.

Thankfully a mate picked me up a ticket for the next Manchester show (bit weird them going on sale at noon rather than 10pm). Great to see interest picking up, even if it does mean me potentially missing shows due to missing out on a ticket. Usually when I get the train to Manchester I never see another wrestling shirt/hoodie etc but yesterday there were at least 6/7 on my carriage alone.

Will be interesting to see if PROGRESS continue with current venues and are happy with the 700 max crowds or look into running slightly bigger venues. I could see them easily getting 900-1,000 per show

Not sure why they went with midday, some asked on Twitter, but they didn't say. It was fine for me since I have the day off on a Monday, but if I was at work would almost certainly not have been able to get tickets.

Based on the speed of demand, they could easily fill a bigger venue, but the smaller venues have better atmosphere and they seem to be of the "if it ain't broke" mindset. Many other promotions have overreached and ended up booking venues they can't fill.

  15. Sunday's card is looking pretty, pretty good.

Pete Dunne vs Jimmy Havoc for the PROGRESS World Title

British Strong Style vs South Pacific Power Trip for the Tag Titles

    Will Ospreay vs Mark Andrews

    Zack Gibson vs El Ligero

    Ringkampf vs Hunter Brothers

Jinny vs Nixon Newell (NPS Semi Final)

    James Drake vs Jack Sexsmith

Nathan Cruz vs Flash Morgan Webster

I imagine that World title match is going to see a fair few shenanigans involving Ospreay, BSS and Webster. Wouldn't be surprised to see Paul Robinson and Mark Haskins turn up either.

Top show all round. I won't spoil for anyone planning to watch on Demand, but there was only one interference in the main event - it was manic enough as it was, being a no-DQ and the ring apron concealing an impressive array of weaponry.

First time live and won't be my last, best crowd and atmosphere at a live event I have attended.
