Poppy's Path

Poppy Rose was born at 2.59am on 23/9/2011 due to a prolonged labour she contracted pneumonia while still in the womb, this was not picked up and 20 minutes after her birth Poppy Collapsed. She was resuscitated for approximately 45minutes and then incubated. She was placed in a cooling system for 3 days and spent the first month of her life in a neonatal ward. Due to Poppy's collapse she suffered a lack of oxygen to the brain and her MRI scan confirmed sufficient damage to the grey matter and basal ganglia which are the parts that control and coordinate movement. Poppy's parents were told she may never walk, talk or feed orally. Poppy was tube fed for 4 months but after raising funds for private treatment and a lot of hard work Poppy's path managed to remove her tube finally in the January. This was a major breakthrough for Poppy and she has gone on to eat solid food like any other baby.

When Poppy was 9 months she was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, she has physio weekly from the NHS but this is not enough, In November 2012 Poppy and her Parents travelled to Canada for the first time and poppy attended Health in Motion Rehabilitation clinic where she received 4 and a half hours a day intense therapy, The results for Poppy were amazing, As a result of the therapy poppy can now roll and even sit independently for a couple of minutes at a time, Poppy's parents were so pleased with the amazing progress she made they returned again in march, her progress was once again fantastic, she even learnt how to take some steps with support! but poppy still has a long way to go...Poppy's parents plan to travel to Canada for this ground breaking therapy every 4 months in order to give Poppy the best possible chance to excel to her full potential.
