  1. Saw Pan's Labyrinth last night. Just brilliant. Cheers to all those who recommended it in here, it really was a fantastic film. I've never been one for fairy tales but this one swept me away. Horrifying in parts, beautifully emotive in others. If only all cinema experiences could be as absorbing and rewarding as this.

  2. I saw District 13 the other night. As I am feeling incredibly lazy this morning, here's a brief synopsis from IMDB for you:

"In the near future, the worst ghettos of Paris, France are literally walled off and among the worst is District B13. Controlled by the ruthless crime lord, Taha, a young righteous punk named Le

  3. Mind if I ask why you disliked it so much..?

I just thought that everything bar the fight scenes was poor. The dialogue was embarrassing at times (particularly Wolvie's cheeky quips), the story was wafer thin and the acting was so basic. But then it was a film made with the younger generation in mind so I shouldn't really have been expecting too much from it.
  4. Saw X-Men 3 last night.I quite enjoyed it... my brother and cousin whom I was watching the film with were both pissed off that so many people died, but it didn't really bother me. Apart from Vinnie Jones walking around looking like some bondage queen it was a decent film.

I also saw X-Man 3 last night. And I thought it was pretty dreadful aside from the wonder of Frasier Crane as Hank. And Vinnie Jones knocking himself out.
  5. Has there been a thread yet where posters share their Smackdown CAW's? With a pic and maybe a little summary of who he/she is and what the inspiration for the character was? This might sound a little dumb but I think it could be pretty fun. (if it hasn't been done a thousand times of course)

  6. You've got it! Unlike in the film, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre where the first half introduces the characters weaknesses and introduces the maniac son, creating an erie feel, Wolf Creek just shows a bunch of stoned teenagers driving around the beautiful Australian wilderness (which is wonderfully shot in all fairness). No seeds to the second half have been planted, and when you can clearly divide a film into 2 halves then it is clear it doesn't flow or mend together as it should. The very fact you acknowledge a first half in a naturalistic film suggests it is disjointed.

You can divide any film into sections if you choose to (beginning, middle, end as standard) - I referred to it as such here in response to your previous comment. Personally when I watched the film (as I do with most films) I allowed myself to be drawn into it rather then sitting detached, looking through the film for something more. And why would the director hint at things to come? The idea is to unsettle you with the random nature of the attacks - to lure the spectator into the realistic atmosphere and then shock them with the sudden descent into brutality.

The violence has no relevance because you have no empathy for the characters as I have clearly stated before. It could have played upon the characterstics of the characters already exposed, e.g. the bond between the three of them, but it does not. Like I said, even if what the director was basing it on was the randomness of such attacks, it does not equal a brillant horror.

    Ahhh..now you
  7. Wow, that post really must have embarassed you when re-reading it.Firstly my original post was my opinion on the film, so there was no way it could have been fiction - unless I was creating my own opinion out of fiction. Secondly, you have a big go at me for my posts not having any substance (which is bullshit, since I clarified them through bulletpoints just for the cretins like you), but then you yourself fail to make any real points about me, thus making yourself look like a hypocrite and a bit of a tit.Unlucky.

Oh dear, oh dear. Looks like ukedge is getting a bit ahead of himself. Please allow me to explain this for you junior. In your original post, you stated -

the violence occurred with little to no relevance

    Which I
  8. Since this thread is occupied by some people with a broad knowledge of film a little help would be appreciated.I'm trying to remember the name of a film, so I can get it on DVD, and its driving me nuts.It was a Kung fu pisstake, they had a yank in the lead role, usual story of guy trained by master girl kidnapped etc, fairly sure they used footage from other films and then dubbed over with the pisstake stuff.Any help?

    Kung Pow?
  9. what do you mean the 'violence occured with little to no relevance'? relevance to what?? its about a guy who kills random people, because he enjoys it.

Relevance to any of the below would have been fine in my book:* What happens in the first half* The characters themselves* Any themes or emotions already woven into the audience's mindInstead it appear random, as if it is being made up as it goes along, and expects its self smug attitude with the ending and the play on the cliches of the horror genre to treat the film with more respect than it deserves.
What a steaming pile of crap! Your initial statement was entirely composed of fiction and your attempts to qualify said statement are laughable. It's entirely understandable that you might not enjoy the film and subsequently post stating this but why continue to defend such a nonsensical point as highlighted by Ebb? It screams "pedantic".
  10. This has been bugging me for a while - a while ago I saw a great sketch the Hearthrobs did in OVW where they were working out in the gym with their manager and getting involved in some very homoerotic situations. Sketch was hilarious but the song playing over it all was tremendous - Let's get physical. Does anyone know who sang this???Thanks.

  11. Apologies if it's been discussed before as I haven't read the preceding 50+ pages but The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction is awesome! Same engine as the Spidey game that came out a while back but with the big green terror ripping up downtown. So much damn fun! And you can pick it up for 10 squid online - bonus.

  12. When someone posts a negative review of The Aristocrats, I simply have to defend the film. It may not be for everyone, but if you like obscene, offensive adult humour, then you'll love it. Quite frankly, The Aristocrats had me in stitches.

Me too, though I did find it a touch too long - there's only so many ways you can hear it told. But on the whole it's certainly merits a 3.5 to 4 outta 5.I saw Murderball at the weekend. Wow - absolutely fanfreakingtastic. The best documentary I've seen in years, the most compelling story I've seen in film for an age and the greatest heel ever on the silver screen. Seriously, Joe Soares is a man you have to see to believe. And Mark Zupan??? Well he may just be the baddest man on the planet, and I'll bet you get Iron Mike to agree to that too.I would strongly recommend this film to everyone I know. It made me laugh, it nigh on made me cry, it made me want to play Murderball and by Christ did it make me think.
  13. The last movie I watched was (and don't snigger) Under the Cherry Moon starring Prince. I first saw it many years ago about 1am after coming home from the pub and was so shocked that such a terrible film had been made. Naturally, it plagued me for years and I eventually felt compelled to buy it and find out if it really was as bad as I remembered. Oh my god. It was worse. Or should that be better? I just cannot explain this film.

If you want to experience something like no other then watch this - you will not believe your eyes. or ears.

and then you'll probably want to punch me.
