  1. My "oppurtunity to pimp DG goodness" alert just went off there. You need this:

Infinity #23, 7/3~7/121. Tozawa Trial Series, #10 (7/3)Keni'chiro Arai vs. Tozawa2. Open the Triangle Gate (7/8)CIMA, Naruki Doi, Don Fujii vs. Ryo Saito, Dragon Kid, Genki Horiguchi3. Open the Triangle Gate (7/9)Ryo Saito, Dragon Kid, Genki Horiguchi vs. CIMA, Naruki Doi, Don Fujii4. Open the Triangle GateRyo Saito, Dragon Kid, Genki Horiguchi vs. CIMA, Naruki Doi, Don Fujii5. BxB Hulk vs. Don Fujii (7/12)6. Open the Triangle GateCIMA, Magnitude Kishiwada, Masato Yoshino vs. Ryo Saito, Dragon Kid, Genki Horiguchi

I reviewed it here, http://ukff.com/index.php?s=&showtopic...t&p=1295245Though you might want to watch it unspoiled. Either way, this episode was almost exclusively BloodGen vs DF and was all gold. Best TV episode of 2005. Also, if you have any thoughts on the DG shows you're watching then please, please post them in the big Dragon Gate thread, it would be greatly appreciated.http://ukff.com/index.php?showtopic=49584
I bought this from JLM's recomendation and can happily concur that it seriously rocked
  2. I'm just watching Chi-Town Struggle. Words can not explain how bad the opening ROH student promo is. Really...it made my teeth itch it was so cringeworthy. Only Hagadorn looks anything like a wrestler from what I've seen. I know its good to break the guys in cos its the only way for them to improve but why should I suffer?! Possibly the worst promo I've ever seen....ever.I also can't help but feel glad that the CZW fued ends at the next show. The Homicide angle aside, its really starting to fizzle out which is a shame because the stuff during the milestone series was hot. Theres just been a few multi participant brawls too many. I couldn't help but wonder why the CZW guys attacked guys like Joe, Whitmer and Pearce but left the rest of the card unmolested? Surely if they were trying to bring about the end of ROH they'd do more than interfere with a few ROH guys. Also...when all this brawling is going on, where were the rest of the ROH guys? If ROH was taking the incursions seriously then whole locker room would rush out like at the anniversary shows. I don't know...there doesn't seem to be such a CZW threat because of it. Still really looking forward to cage of death though. Did they ever do a blow off to this on a CZW show too? Possibly with CZW emerging victorious on home turf?

Strong Vs Jacobs (No, really, it's fucking brilliant)

Agreed! That really was a great match when I didnt expect very much.
  3. 11/4 in Philadelphia back at the National Guard Armory will see a first time ever match. It will be a battle of two of the top athletes going today. Philadelphia will witness KENTA vs. Matt Sydal. Will KENTA go out with a win or can Sydal get that breakout victory? This promises to be athletic wrestling at its best. Wow that sounds unwhelming. Are we going to get KENTA vs Joe anytime or did I miss it?I'm quite excited by the brewing Joe vs Morishima fued though.

  4. Just watched Better than our Best. Really awesome show, probably better than Supercard. The opening sixman mayhem was pretty much standard for a scramble style match and pretty forgettable.Delirious vs Reyes was a fun little match with Delirous' ROH career at stake. It was fun but not much more. Now the goodness begins...Yossino & The Embassy vs Do Fixer was incredible fun. Yossino got a good toilet papering with the Embassy and really got into the heel spirit of the embassy. Throwing a toilet roll in Ryo Satos face at the start was great. So much fun with a big sprint finish. QualityAJ Styles vs Christopher Daniels vs Jimmy Yang vs Samoa Joe. Joe, AJ and Daniels know each other inside out by now. Some of the closing exchanges were really impressive. Jimmy Yang didn't really add anything to the match but it was still very good and was a rare fourway that actually had meaning.Afterwards Joe had a verbal confrontation with Danielson. Joe was in super intense mode while Danielson was in full on prick mood. Can't wait for these guys to finally match up as this was building very nicely.Blood Generation vs Generation Next.Better still that the lasty tag match. Aries busted his nose pretty bad and CIMA and Doi were not afraid to expliot it.Danielson vs Lance StormStorm looked pretty sharp and had plenty of support. Danielson really turned up the arse-holery to fire the atmosphere up. The match was very much what you'd expect with really solid mat work from both guys. Danielson's title defences are now completely unmissable. Just an epic series of matches in his reign as champion. The end of the match featured the lamest most cringeworth ROH chant of ALL TIME. 'Less is more, less is more'...Weak....Homicide vs Colt CabanaThe voilence of this fued meant that this match was always going to be a huge hardcore blow-off. There were some really nice references to the previous beatings Homicide had given Cabana with the various weapons that came into play. I still preffered the Streetfight from Death Before Dishonour 2 but this was pretty good. I enjoyed it plenty but it isn't really a classic. I think in a gritty bloody fight like this it would have been better if Julious Smokes had avoided the over the top comedy selling. It seemed out of place.Very unsure of whether I approved of the hand shake finish. If they'd had a classic wrestling match then fair enough but after such a voilent war? hmmmm not convinced...

  5. I can see ROH using the KENTA match to really push Davey up the card.Didn't Matt Hardy beat some top ROH guys before getting beaten by Roderick Strong? I can see them doing very similar thing with KENTA. He can't go through ROH beating everyone including the champion for his whole ROH run can he?Admittedly it seems more likely that Joe or Danielson will end his run but who knows?

  6. http://ukff.com/index.php?showtopic=49584 < Plenty of DragonGate news, reviews and opinions in there. The thread has been going for almost two years now. :Dhttp://dragongate.puroresufan.com is the site for news, results, sometimes opinions and also very helpful biographies and other info. The only DG resource you really need. Apologies if it's down or something at the moment, I can't go there as I'm avoiding spoilers! For more DF/BloodGen matches you absolutely need Dragongate Infinity #23 (7/3 - 7/12). Infinity is the monthly TV show, this one is from July 2005, and Summer of 2005 was all about DF vs BloodGen. http://ukff.com/index.php?showtopic=49584&st=450# < Thoughts on it there, though it's a bit rambly and spoilery if you want to see the matches without preconceptions. The September 2005 PPV is a strong card from top to bottomYou could also do with: Dragon Gate LIVE Gaora TV 12/26/05 and December PPVThe first is a one-off live show featuring the quarter finals of Dragon Gate's "King of gate" tournament which is somewhat similar to King of the ring, though in DG terms more prestigious. The idea is that the winner becomes the promotion's top dog, and a title shot etc. usually follows. The second show is the Pay Per view from December 05, with the two semi-finals from that tournament and the final as the main event. There's also a typically insane battle royal and some decent enough multiman tag matches. The February 06 PPV is good, the January PPV's second half is excellent. After that I can't really recommend anything because I'm waiting on an order that should be here any day now. There aren't many offensively bad shows, and I'm sure a lot of what I consider run of the mill in terms of six man tags would be a lot better if you've never seen it before or don't follow the storylines, but the stuff I recommend there is stuff that stands out to someone like me who watches every single show and is all jaded and smarky.

Cheers for that. Seems like a few really good starting points.
  7. Finally got round to watching Supercard of Honor. The Dragongate match is mental. I'm not convinced it's one of the best matches ever as others have said but its pretty much must see stuff. Absolutely insane. A lot of people said that these guys would put on many similar matches in Japan and this match only got hype because it occurred on US soil. Can those guys PLEASE recommend me some shows with similar quality matches because I'd love to see more of these guys. I've only seen one Dragongate show (Which I recieved when a tape trader got my order wrong) I'm keen for some advice on really good shows or big events.I enjoyed Danielson vs Strong but I actually felt I enjoyed the matches with Shelley and Rave more. Overall a very good card. Well worth a look but it's loooong!

  8. Rave is probably my favourite wrestler to watch in RoH at the moment, weather it be in singles or tag matches. I watched his cage match with Punk from Nowhere to Run and it is a great feud ending match, and a match which seemed to have genuine emotion in it in regards to wanting to see the babyface overcome the odds and beat up Rave. Very rare for the indies.

Those were my thoughts on the main event of Nowhere to Run. Babyfaces overcoming the odds and getting revenge on the heels is quite rare in the indies. The show had a great feel good finish because of Punk's triumph and not just because it was a good match or a good show. Although Punk was tremendous in the fued it still wouldn't be possible if Rave wasn't a completely detestable heel.
  9. Hi All

I've been desperatly trying to catch up on Ring of Honour shows recently so I thought I put up a few of my thoughts of some 2005 shows for those of us who aren't quite so up to date. I'm planning to cut my losses and order the milestone series soon (Although I hate the names of the shows) and get bang up to date. I'm sick of being an ROH neatherthal. I still plan the plod through 2005 by picking up the shows when I can:

This is the first time in a while I've watched ROH shows in sequence and I must admit its a lot more fun than just dipping in or out of shows that catch the eye. The only problem with this is that it's sucoming to the ROH propaganda machine that brain washes you to buy every show. The other advantage of being this far behind is that there are fewer spoilers to give away the suprises.

    Right so...

    Manhattan Mayhem

A really good show from top to bottom really. I wasn't nuts on the Special K tag team match which considering it had loser must split stips was pretty uneventful, even after the match.

Colt vs McGuiness was really fun, the low blow finish was beautifully executed and really brought some intrigue to the start of the fued.

Can't really talk about show without mentioning the sick finish to the impromptu main event...

    Final Showdown

I really enjoyed Shelley vs Strong. An early sequence where both wrestlers displayed their familiarity with the others offence really stands out in my memory of this.

I'm not sure how everyone feels about Ebetaroh/Ebessan but the four way made me sob with laughter. Some of the Delirious/Ebetaroh exchanges were great.

I guess the bit talking point of this show woulod be the finish Homicide/Danielson best of 7 series. I'm pretty sure the finish to the match caused a split in opinion. My feeling was that the match finish would have been fine for a one off match but didnt seem to give a really satisfying climax to the huge series. Other than that it was a fun match with some nice references to the previous matches.

    Nowhere to Run

I really enjoed Homicide vs Williams. As far as I know this was the first time they'd have a match together and they seemed to click well. The Cabana McGuiness match seemed like more of the same until the fued took a more violent direction. I'm really enjoing this angle so far. Aries vs Danielson was pretty strong too. Aries had strung together some pretty impressive run of defences together by this point. I really think he needed to defend against a really credible challenger earlier in his reign, I'm not sure Cabana was really the opponent to establish him as champion. The Punk vs Rave blow off was a great example of why its better to watch these shows with continuity instead of just picked at random. The back history to this fued is really what made this a dramatic main event. I dont think the match would have any where near the same impact without in isolation. Punk's victory gave the show a fun 'going home happy' feel that's quite rare in the indies.

Next show is New Frontiers. Having just gone on about how much I've enjoyed watching the shows in sequence i'm thinking of giving this one a miss. Money is short and the card doesn't leap out at me. Anyone have any thoughts?

  10. SHAMELESS SHILL but if you want those two shows on the cheap i've got the original dvd's for sale for 7 quid each including postage :p

Your shameless shill has not fallen on deaf ears. I'll check the old balance and get back to you

But on didcotfc's point, we mentioned that in the old thread and we thought that it could become a problem to fans if they can't keep up with the promotion, I'm stuck in October and since then they've produced loads of shows and increased there turnaround from shows to DVDs. It could become a problem but if they still produce good shows then it won't be as much as a problem.

I think thats a really fair point. I'm not a completist and I dont feel the need to own every dvd but at the same time I don't like just dipping in to random shows. No matter how great a match is, its kinda out of context without seeing the build up and the reason for it all. I can't blame ROH at all for wanting to produce a load of shows (as long as quality doesn't drop) and you can only be impressed with how promptly they get them released. But I can understand the feeling that your so far behind that you just give up trying. Fortunatly I have more determination than that. but I recon I'll always be about a year behind unless i come into a large amount of cash. If has any shows they recon are 'dispensible' I'd appreciate your advice.
  11. Who gives a fuck what the show names are called? That has to be the least important factor possible. Sadly i'm stuck back in July and have the dvds up to Glory By Honor 4. As soon as i've watched those i promised myself i'll get up to date (i'm waiting for a buy 3 get 1 free sale!)

I'm still all the way back at the 3rd Year Anniversary shows. The problem is they're just producing those shows so quickly I can't keep up. I'm planning to skip the Trios tournament and Best of the USA Super J just because the seem like one off shows rather than shows with any progression.
