  1. I finished Six Degrees a little while ago - an excellent book on global warming - comparing modern climates to historic periods of time etc - some scientific detail but not too much to bore The writer refers to a variety of different climatalogical, biological and geological research papers & programmes which backs up the theories.

Unfortunately its let down a little by leaning towards sensationalism.

Im reading Danny Wallace's Friends liek these - just over half way through and am yet to find anything funny.

  2. MEH...

Thats about the extent of my response.

He's been in 2 things with Billie Piper though (Ruby in the Smoke & Secret Diary of a Call Girl)

Totally uninspired really (And the only reason Russell T Davies is jealous is because he likes casting guy candy)

  3. Snuka was never found innocent as no charges were ever brought against him. It does seem VERY likely that he did kill someone though. And since we're comparing the two, at least Vince never took an active role in covering up Benoit's actions.

Don't you mean he was never found guilty.Remember, Innocent until proven guilty.
I was replying to the post above which talked about Snuka being "found innocent." Apologies for any confusion there - I've had the "innocent until proven guilty" argument about a million times on this very forum. And carolann - PLEASE look up the page before you post. Anyone who's read this thread in the last 24 hours has heard the Wiki story. New links are all well and good, but if you're going to develop the thread, you've at least got to add some caustic remark about lazy journalists not doing a modicum of research before writing these stories.
I have actually been reading this thread on and off since it started and hadn't read anything relating to wikipedia - i obviously missed whatever else was posted.I would post something sarcastic - but why bother - you quit clearly have enough wit and cynicism for both of us.
  4. The kid having needle marks is unsurprising - he had Fragile X and would have been on growth hormones and all kinds of other stuff to keep him well and improve his development.

I did hear of a creepy development though (news link below)

allegedly there was an attempt to update wikipedia with news of the deaths approx 14 hours before the police found the bodies. INvestigations are ongoing.

  5. I agree n one could have done more - its one of those what ifs... If my friends dropped everything each time i send a random spammy text - i'd be very unpopular. And if i did it every time it happened to me i'd spend a lot of time running about. If i get a text saying "My address is..." i'd think i had gotten a message in error, that someone hit the wrong name in the address book, and nothing more.Fair enough several text messages like that is a bit weird - and failing to respond to communications afterwards is disconcerting which probably prompted the company to take action. This all smells a little bit like trying to apportion reponsibility.

  6. thats actually something i have been considering - toe company does have a history or making storylines out of deceased wrestlers.. Eddie Guerero, Owen hart, Brian Pilman... all very different circumstances i know - but I am not sure how far the comapny would go.

  7. In the past 24 hours the investigation has changed from the death of a family to the investigation of a murder-suicide. As the WWE has only in the past given passed wrestlers a single memorial show i would be surprised if they changed that in this circumstance. I would think that having a show of nothing but wrestling - and ignoring all storylines could interpreted in many ways. The fact that it will all be wrestling without the hype and gimmick could be seen as a tribute to the way Benoit viewed or preferred wrestling.Given recent angles in the WWE - it would perhaps be innapropriate to run with current storylines - but the company still has air time to fill.Given the shocking nature of what has happened - even the best actors and actresses would have a hard time getting in and staying in character - perhaps the company is trying to ease the burden on their roster? There could be a multitude of reasons - I would suspect it would largely be out of respect for the remaining family.

  8. My Hubby just pointed out that whilst its all very tragic - we did sit down and over last nights curry watched 2 hours of the crime channel - all documentaries about average people who at some point or other killed strangers/loved ones/families/friends for completely random reasons. One man pushed his wife off the grand canyon because it was easier than getting a divorce. Bad stuff happens, and im not comparing - but it happens a lot - and none of us know what was going through Benoits head as events unfolded. It might only be a small straw that breaks the camels back - but it happens... if this were normal old joe public no one would care aside from the families involved.I can't remember who it was who posted earlier about it being a morbid fascination - but its true.(as an afterthought - i like the word hyperbole)

I can understand where you're coming from carolann but Benoit didn't seem like the type to just go berzerk and kill people. I mean, some of the stuff fans used to chant at him and he never reacted to it..
Point taken - but everyone has a breaking point and maybe he reached his. In the news a couple weeks ago was the story of that banking executive who just lost it and beat his two year old daughter to death. In hindsight people were saying "oh he was under a lot of stress" but hindsight has the benefit of being 20/20. In the next few weeks (and probably already) lots of people will talk about how Benoit was acting out of his usual character or they thought somethign was wrong.

  10. I'm sorry but this is all a bit stupid - in the past 2 hours i have read several versions of the "truth" - one apparent source says that Benoit found out he had aids after sleeping with another male wrestler, found out, went mad and killed his family in shame. Another apparently guaranteed source says that he was just having some horseplay with his wife - put the crippler on her and accidentally killed her.Until there is a police report and a coroners inquest the only thing we know is that three people died in sad and disturbing circumstances. The rest is just speculation.
