  1. The way I look at it, the list of fighters Wladimir fought is not really impressive. I dont think he's ever come up against a guy as quick as Haye and who packs as much power, he's had the titles for ages but when I look at his fight record nobody on there stands out as a challenge for him. Thats probably partly because theres very few in the HW division that have any quality but I don't think Wladimir has been too excited to jump for this fight because Haye seems like his strongest test ever and always comes into fights super in shape and has a good gameplan most of the time.

I'm still backing Haye to beat Wlad, I think Vitali will be tougher but he's probably way to old now and Haye could have him too.

  2. And we can go back to enjoying all the great fights the faceless Eastern Europeans were putting on before Haye moved up to heavyweight. I can't wait for Klitschko vs Ibragimov II!

Whilst you can't be bothered with such a fight, I'm sure there are a good few thousand German & Russian fans who will be tuning in.

There's no real interest in Haye either outside of the UK.

Is there really interest in Ibragimov outside of wherever the hell he's from though? Surely with Haye vs Klitschko there will be a few thousand English and German fans for that no? Pointless argument.

That is the problem, its only German and Russian fans tuning in. That's why the US networks have given up on the Brothers Klit. America is interested in Haye. Granted they dismiss him as a big-headed big-mouth and they want to see him get trounced, but most American fight fans can't tell Wladimir and Vitali apart. If fans hate someone enough they will pay to see him lose, Prince Naseem and Chris Eubank's careers were founded on it and its also why Audley managed to keep getting TV exposure for as long as he did.

The heavyweight division has needed fresh blood for a long time, distinguishable names that raise excitement. A cocky bloke with looks that earnt him modelling work and a dynamite punch will sell tickets. Of course he's got to beat Wlad first but that is an argument for another time. The fact is Haye as WBA/IBF/WBO champion, if promoted correctly, will make a lot of money and make people care about the heavies again.

There seems to be alot of hate for Haye and I don't really get it, yeah he's arrogant and trash talks alot but he's our first Heavyweight champion for absoloutly ages and the division is now awful so he's a good thing for the heavyweight division, but if he's to be believed come October he's retiring completely after 20 years in boxing.

  4. Coupled with Haye saying its gonna happen, Adam Booth saying its 99.9% certain and it looks like now we have a fight with no contractual things getting in the way, so I'll guess we'll see next year then?

Booth said Haye would never fight Audley because it would be an 'embarassment of a fight' or something similar.

We know how that turned out, eh?

And they were right. But the fights with Klitschko's broke down and the biggest money fight that would generate the most interest was Audley, everyone knew it would be a joke but it was perfect for Haye, he gets a nice fat payday, one of the easiest fights anyone could ever have and literally took no damage in the fight and is now fresh as a daisy for next year hopefully against Wladimir.

David, I was going on what Haye had actually said in a video, if your countering that with "well Klitschko says differently" why should I believe Wladimir instead? Now that Klitschko has said he'll offer 50-50 it sure looks like he wasn't offering that last time was he?

  5. Anyway for what its worth Wladimir had this to say to Radio 5 live today

"I'm ready any minute to sign a 50-50 contract," Klitschko told BBC Radio Five on Monday.

"We are both world champions so let's fight. Let's make the fight in the spring time - I'm ready, the question is for David Haye.

Coupled with Haye saying its gonna happen, Adam Booth saying its 99.9% certain and it looks like now we have a fight with no contractual things getting in the way, so I'll guess we'll see next year then?

Was it not the rematch clauses that Haye had a problem with? Isn't Derek Chisora tied up for 3 fights if he somehow wins his fight?

He's mentioned the rematch clause before about how they'd tie him up for years fighting whoever they want him to fight or something to that affect. Last time I heard it was that the Klitskcho's wanted all of the German PPV money and then half of the UK fight money where Haye wanted it 50-50. After they said no, Haye offered them to keep all the German money and he'd keep all the UK money which they said no again and it broke down. Theres a video somewhere with Haye going into it all. Now they've offered 50-50 and if its all good Haye will take the fight, no doubt in my mind.

  6. I'd like to know if anyone in the US really gives a fuck about either Klitschko to be honest because for the longest time the division has been completely stagnent and the US doesn't even seem interested in the Klitschko's either.

Heavyweight boxing is in a all time low and I think David Haye could take out at least one of the Klitschkos'. I always had Vitali down as the harder brother to beat and Wladimir being the easier of the two thanks to Vitali's performance against Lewis and also Wladimir's losses being worse then Vitali's. Anyway for what its worth Wladimir had this to say to Radio 5 live today

  7. I think its just because Haye is confident. As a nation, we generally don't like confident or cocky sportsmen (unless its Jose Mourinho, what a loveable foreigner). Everyone I know likes David Haye and I'm unsure where the "shit boxer" thing comes from since he's the most sucessful heavyweight we've had since Lennox.

He's fought four times at Heavyweight so far.

The fact that he can even be mentioned in the same breath as Lewis is laughable. Lennox fought a war with Vitali in 2006, has beaten Tyson, Evander Holyfield, an unbeaten 32-0 Michael Grant, Frank Bruno, Razor Ruddock, and he even layed a beating on that guy from Rocky V back in 1995 when he was regarded as something of a fighter.

If Haye retires next year as he's rumoured to be, he'll be nothing more than a small footnote in the history of Heavyweight boxing.

His fight with Harrison got no coverage from the Ring Magazine website at all. There was fuck all on the front page of the site the day after the fight.

This was a defence of the WBA heavyweight title and no one outside the UK gave a toss. I don't even think it was shown in the US live, was it?

To the rest of the world Haye is just the mouthy English guy who pulled out of fights with the actual recognised heavyweight kingpins of this era.

Wladimir Klitschko is the heavyweight champion. He's the guy who holds the IBF, IBO, WBO and Ring Magazine belts.

He hasn't lost a fight for over six years, and has won thirteen fights on the bounce, many of which have been mandatory title defences, which means they were guys he couldn't duck.

If Haye wants recognition beyond the UK he'll have to fight him, simple as that.

I won't be holding my breath though, as he could easily sort out a fight against a lesser opponent in the UK, sell out an arena and sell a shitload of PPV's.

You mention all these guys that Lewis fought and beat but has either Klitschko ever fought anyone of their pedigree either? Haye was the one calling out the Klitschko's for ages before they were even relevantly interested in fighting him. He had to go and beat Nikolai Valuev who had the other title (someone neither Klitschko ever faced) and then took on John Ruiz who's never faced either Klitschko either. In your opinion who would you of had Haye fighting last weekend? Since the Klitschko's were not available to fight who should he of took on? No ones going to enhance his reputation so he took the fight that most of the British public would be interested in and generated the most money from it.

The way I see it, Haye has been smart, he tried calling out the Klitschko's way back and it didn't work and now he's in a prime position where they have to fight him and he can get a better contract out of it for himself. Most people are saying that "he should get the best deal out there for himself" but then critisize him when the fight doesn't happen because he isn't getting a fair share of the deal. There is simply no pleasing some people who are just anti-Haye.

I also wasn't comparing him to Lewis, I'm saying he's the best heavyweight we've had SINCE Lewis, not that he's on Lewis level because Lewis is far and above better then any boxer we've had in my lifetime. Hayes the only british heavyweight boxer to even come close, yet alone win a World title belt.

  8. It does seem to me people would rather cheer on Danny Williams on a friday night sky sports card when he's always going to be average.

I also don't see where the notion comes from that Haye couldn't beat either Klitchsko, they've been dodging fights all the time and havn't taken on a decent opponent in ages now so Haye would be their toughest challenge in a long while. It also seems to me that Haye and more specfically Hayes trainer Adam Booth is a good tactician and they'd come up with a plan for Haye to defeat them, one thing I've always noticed about Haye is that yes he does hype the fight with trash talking but listen to him talk about his diet, training etc and he comes across as the model professional in the gym. I'd love to see him take down the Klitchsko's.

  9. anyone know what time Harrison/Haye is due to start? im guessing around 10, but i aint sure if they're doing one of those silly midnight starts to accomidate US TV...last i heard though, this wasn't even on in America.

Livesportontv.com have Haye Harrison listed as 8pm till 10pm and UFC listed as 8pm till 11pm. Not sure if those timings are perfectly correct but thats what it gives me. Didn't Haye not want to come out for the Valuev fight because of the X-Factor clash?

  10. Haye is too fast to get caught, thats the reason why I think he would do well against either Klitschko. He wouldn't be a stationary target like Peter was and I think Wlad would have a hard time hitting him square on. It'll be the toughest fight of Haye's career but I'm sure with his speed, power and ability to move he'd defeat Wlad and Vitali I'm not sure about.

  11. He pulled out against Wladamir because he broke his hand, plus he wasn't at that time a Heavyweight Champion. Now he is so he is entitled to more of a say in the fight. The Klitchsko's are dodging Haye imo, quite why I'm not sure as it would actually add something to the Heavyweight Division which has been so lacking.

For Haye, Harrison was the only 'big, money spinning' fight he could go for at this time, hence why its happening.

Haha, did he fuck have a broken hand.

The reason for Haye pulling out the Wlad fight was because of a back injury sustained in training, whether or not thats 100% true I don't know but by the reply you've just left I'm sure you have more "inside" information and satirical comment to make about that as well. D'you actually know the reason?

  12. Can't wait for Haye's fight. Been waiting over a year now to see him fight and was gutted when it was called off in the summer. Haye's chances are even better against Valuev then against either Klitchsko so i'm predicting Haye to win and bring back a world title for us.

  13. I'm watching the undercard and playing that old favourite, the "spot the celebrity lookalikes sat at ringside" game. So far we've seen:

Eddie Large of Little & Large fame

    The late Senator Teddy Kennedy

    John Prescott

    Tom Baker

    The late Major Ronald Ferguson

    Mahatma Gandhi

    The Fonz

    A fat Eddie Izzard

    Post anyone else you see!

Oh and Mayweather to win on points.

Roy Cropper from Corrie was definitely in the bottom right corner as he usually is. At the bottom left it looks like Michael Buffer was consistantly chatting with Teddy Sheringham. During the Mayweather fight there was a bloke who was the spitting image of Triple H as well!

  14. I can't stand Alan Carr and if I had voted he'd of easily been the number one choice. Completely unfunny cunt who offers no sort of comedy whatsoever then he's camp as fuck. The guy should be shot repeatedly a million times for having no actual talent and that because you act like you take a million cocks up your arse per hour it qualifies you to believe you are funny.
