  1. Watching a Nitro from Jan 97 (As you do) Konnan v Super Calo. I know the Lucha style kinda gets a pass for some things but at one point Konnan hits Super Calo with a power bomb, then picks him up and hits him with a second one and then instead of going for a cover he walks over to the complete opposite corner and just sits casually on the turn buckle until Calo Springs back up to his feet and hits a hurricanrana. Disgraceful.

  2. I was happy to see that Daniels has landed a job at Universal Studios. I work as a performer at their Park in Osaka and I can tell you it's a sweet gig. By the looks of things he's playing the lead role in the Water World show which (Amazingly considering the source material) is one of the most popular and sought after attractions in all the parks. Being an actor on stunt pay he'll be earning a far more comfortable living than he would risking his neck on the indies plus all the benefits. He's landed on his feet there!

  3. A long shot, but I remember a couple of years ago someone on here posting a PPV card they created with only wrestlers who had passed away. Does anyone remember this? Can anyone remember the card?

I did that one way back in 2007. Got a nice little discussion going. Don't know if it's still available anywhere though.

  4.

Just watching WCW Souled Out 98 (purely to see Hart / Flair after nearly 20 years)

I've just realised I've never seen this match - any good?

It's nothing special. I never thought Bret and Flair really had very good chemistry together. I think Bret's at his best when he either has a monster he has to over come or a smaller guy to bump around for him.

The sad thing about the match I noticed was Bret's entrance. Being his first match since Montreal and as a baby face you can see he's genuinely trying to recapture the magic and get back to his old ways. Marching to the ring with a purpose, great looking gear, nice jacket and most of all the old school baby face pink Hitman wrap around shades which of course he dishes out to a fan at ringside.

Flash forward 6 months and he's strolling down with no jacket, maybe a random hockey jersey, whatever pair of aviators he might have found at the local gas station and a look that reads "What the hell happened" slapped on his Chevy Chase.

  5. Just watching WCW Souled Out 98 (purely to see Hart / Flair after nearly 20 years) and noticed some classic WCW nincompoopery at the culmination of the prior match.

Kevin Nash throws "Hot" coffee in the Giants eyes and then powerbombs him in the classic botched spot that looks as though it should have killed the giant.

The entire arena goes in to a hush, Giant doesn't move. Everyone is legitimately concerned, you can see on Nash's face he's worried. The EMT's rush to the ring and as the Giant lays motionless after being dropped on his head and potentially paralyzed they..............wrap kayfabe bandages around Giants eyes like he's Jake Roberts having been hit with the atomiser.

The announcers try to cover for it and sell the injury instead:-

"It looks like they're trying to stabalize his neck"

"Nope!" Says Bobby who can already see the opportunity for real life drama has vanished.

"He got hot coffee in his eyes!"

    Gotta love WCW

  6. Just watched some of Summerslam 93 on the network and noticed what a chunky monkey Shawn Michaels was back in 93. I recall in interviews he's said he put on a lot of weight around that time due to trying to go toe to toe with Nash at the buffet table. Do we think this is the most rotund (and with that mullet to boot least 'sexy boy' HBK) we ever saw or is there evidence of his waistline expanding even further in this time period?

  7. What're you talking about? I love Fale! Have you watched the Talkin' Shop Movie? He's so hilariously dead pan, the guy is comedy gold. (But then I am just a mark for anything Bullet Club)

  8. It always used to be but they're moving towards a full year of events so they may get the shot sooner or, of course, Okada could win but lose his title between now and January and then get the shot then.

Thanks Linus, I'm still learning the finer points of NJPW but attending the finals so thought I'd better figure out what exactly I'm cheering for.

  9. Quick question. Is is the point of the tournament that the winner gets a title shot at Wrestle Kingdom? If so why is the Champion Okada in the tourny? What does he gain by winning?

  10. Hi guys, I've just moved to Osaka Japan and can no longer access the network. Gaaah!

Can anyone post a step by step guide (Or link to one) for how to view from a blocked country?

I know it involves US addresses and paypal and VPN's and some such but I kinda need an idiots guide here.

Any help would really be appreciated!

WWE's statement sums it up. Not their problem is it? They can't change the law in the Emirates.

They do have the power to not tour there as a socio-political statement.

There have been instances in the past, I believe, where groups and shows have not gone to countries where there is a disagreements over a fundamental dispute over a law deemed to infringe on a key human right.

And then those that have gone got shit for it, to keep the issue in the public conscience.

I'm old enough to remember a very similar situation back in the 80's when Queen got a huge amount of stick for playing a gig in Apathied South Africa while the vast majority of entertainers in the world were boycotting. They were rightly criticised for their decision to do so. The UAE has a disgusting human rights track record also. It's a virtual guarentee that whatever venue is hosting the show will have been constructed with what is essentially slave labour.

  12. F*ck him, it's about time these twats got a taste of what real people deal with rather than piss about in the "Gym, Tan, Wrestle, Eat, Repeat" culture.

WWE's statement sums it up. Not their problem is it? They can't change the law in the Emirates.

Whinges about other people not respecting his culture or lifestyle, and then in one tweet shites on others' beliefs.

Nothing at all against gay guys or anything at all like that. But that's just the way it is over there with stuff like that. If I went there with my missus i'd be facing the same nonsense for giving her a kiss in public or holding her hand.

I think the point he's making is that homosexuality is accepted as being a natural thing that people don't have any say or decision over. Declaring it 'wrong' and illegal is very much a choice that the rulers and law makers of this country have made and that somewhat flies in the face of the freedoms that WWE boast so regularly about supporting. If he went over there to perform, collected a big fat pay cheque and then bitched about them I would similarly be joining the 'no sympathy' club.

  13. Hi guys, is there a way to look back at all the past topics you have started / posted in? I'm trying to find some old stuff from waaay back in the day, about 2007 but i'm guessing the search function doesn't go that far back?
