  1. I think I still have that book knocking about at home, not a bad read at the time but some of it now will have dated beyond belief. The worst thing about the whole book is it cant decide if it wants to present wrestling as a work or as a real sport, this is in part to some of Albanos input.

  2. Another NFL fan here and Im glad the sport is really picking some momentum up on this side of the pond, it really is military style strategy distilled into an all action sport. Even though I'm a Bears fan, I cant see past anyone but the 49ers based on current form and Kaepernick is the real deal.

  3. Nice, it was quite a notorious era in metal with all the controversy surrounding the church burnings and obviously Varg going down for murder. I tend to tag along to gigs and find out if I like what I hear, theres a pretty decent deathcore scene in Scotland at the moment and a lot of bands from all over get good responses. Recently, the delightfully named Cancerous Womb played in Finland, first Scottish deathcore band ever to play there. But other than that, I tend to dabble in trad metal, power metal if it isnt too wanky and more often than not, thrash and speed metal.

  4. Fair shout about how metal fans seem to be divided into mainstream and elitist, I consider myself a general rock fan who favours the traditional style of heavy metal and hard rock. However, I am open to death metal, grindcore etc but there is a lot of snobby fans of those genres which I find off putting at gigs and festivals. Rock is a broad church and all are welcome but dont hate someone because they dont know a black metal band from a village in Norway the size of a postage stamp and a name you need to cut your tongue out to pronounce, if the music is good, people will find it.

  5. For out and out abrasive stand up, Bill Hicks, Louis CK, George Carlin as previously mentioned, Denis Leary and Stewart Lee come recommended. Also mentions to Steve Hughes and Reggie D Hunter, probably the better out of the 'Apollo' Clique.

  6. Ill add a second endorsement to Bloodstock here, probably the best of any festival Ive been to. Great crowd, the arena set up means maximum chances to see all the bands you want to and its not full of the wee posers you would otherwise get at Download, Reading/Leeds or Sonisphere.

  7. Can anybody recommend me a good band from Scotland?

No point mentioning Nazareth, Alestorm, The Almighty, Holocaust and Korpse as I'm well aware of there existence.

Attica Rage are another one, good shout on Cancerous Womb from Kendo, great live and tighter than a knats chuff.

  8. Shame the Bayley era is still being conveniently ignored for that collection, Virus and The Clansman are 2 brilliant tracks. On the subject of hating bands that everyone seems to swoon over, am I alone in not liking Deftones? Although not strictly metal, they just bore me.

  9. Has anyone picked up Holy Grail's 'Crisis In Utopia' album?

One of my Download 2010 discoverys, was really looking forward to their debut release. Great starting point for the band

I bought it a couple of weeks ago, very impressed by it too.

  10. What's your opinion of the Cathouse as a gig venue in general?

Pretty tight, decent sound although it was hard to hear the lyrics clearly at times. Only things that bugged me were the 14 year olds being pit heroes and the pillar on the right of the stage as you face it but other than that its a decent venue, been there a few times before for gigs.

  11. Went to Edguy with White Wizzard as support at the Cathouse last night. Not the biggest fan of power metal but I was blown away by the energy of Tobi and the band, White Wizzard look very promising as a throwback band with a strong single in Over The Top.

  12. Ive seen multiple screens up at the Premier League events but I think its just the 2 that they have at both World Championships and the like. A lot better than the old days with the light bulb board at the side of the stage.
