  1. I've always found it fascinating just how big Nash & Hall became in 1996 and just what a big deal their jump to WCW was. As cool as the Ramon gimmick was, Hall had never been a main eventer in the WWF and Nash hadn't long come off the worst drawing run as WWF Champion in history up to that point. They just looked like huge stars from the outset after jumping. Makes you question what the WWF was doing with them but also shows how the rub of being a WWF guy had great importance even at a real low ebb for the company.

Seeing what WCW was doing with them, Nash particularly, in the brilliant video posted above is almost offensive.

They were big start alright, and they got big pops in the arenas, but often drew ratings far below other WCW/WWF acts. I'm not sure why, but if you go back to '97-'98 Observers Nash's segments almost always went down and Hall didn't fare much better.

Seen as Global Force Wrestling is doing nothing of any note anywhere involving anybody, Jeff Jarrett appears to have fallen into Cash For Good nonsense to fill his days

Looks like the lizards have taken it down.

Santo Gold is the original and best anyway!

  2. He's been very good on TV this year too and I'm not much of a fan. Can anyone reccomend a good old school territories podcast? Really been loving the 605 superpodcast lately. Enjoy hearing about things I know less about rather than the same old same old.

Such a great show. The best thing about it is they talk old school wrestling without just going down the 'lets watch a big show from the 90s and say it's whack' - these guys actually know what they're on about. Currently listening to a show where they talk about what would've happened if Ted Turner went ahead with Bill Watt's Mid South as promised rather than Jim Crockett in '85, which includes a cool rundown of Ole Anderson/Vince/Jim Barnett selling each other shares to get the TBS timeslot.

Tons of weird trivia and odd wrestling all the Memphis/Smokey Mountain talk you can take.

    Santp Gold's BLOOD CIRCUS!

I don't know of any other similar shows :(

  3. Did Zandig ever hook somebody on spikes? I'm sure I watched that on the old Wrestling Channel. Did the channel get into shit because of it early on?

He did it to himself as Radiohead may have whinged.

I think I saw that early screening, might have been in the morning. Was disgusting and completely stupid.

Haven't two of Zandig's sons killed, or tried to kill, themselves?

  4.

The "best" of Zandig, although, we all know his best moment was the infamous JEEEEZUS promo.

    Just, just... good lord...

Makes me want to sell those unwatched copies of Cage of Death. After watching that I don't think I can stomach it.

This is great stuff! Never saw the bald era Zandig, man he's so intense....JESUS!

It's like a Shane McMahon wet dream that collection.

  5. You'd think at 36 and having presumably worked a style that would make Daniel Bryan wince that WWE won't be looking to hold back Nakamura for too long. You could probably say the same for KENTA though and they've been right not to bring him up.

Can totally see that Yakuza style stable as well with Nakamura as the Ichi the Killer style leader with the other three Japanese wrestlers.

Nakamura is near fucked. Wasn't he badly injured last summer? He'll have a few biggish matches, get an injury and then Hideo Itami the rest of his contract out. Will be fucking hilarious when Bryan ends up swapping to NJPW and WWE retain Nakamura while knowing his head is just as fucked up.

As for the rest of the show, I never watch NXT but gave it a spin.

Tag titles match - Green boys day out. From Gable and the other fella almost walking into each other on the stage it was amateur hour. It had a couple of minutes wrestling followed by nothing but 2.9 counts. Cobblers.

Aries/Corbin - Alright. Except for no crowd reactions as it wasn't chock full of spots.

Asuka/Bailey - This wasn't bad at all, better than I thought it'd be. Aside from being dressed a bit similar for some reason, they did the pro wres pretty well.

Nakamura/Zayn - Alright. A bit too takey turns, being 'epic' for me. But a good debut.

Joe/Finn - Finn looks like such a tool, terrible ring entrance and tired face paint deal. He also looks like a stick and is hard to buy vs. Joe. Joe, on the other hand looked great and should be 100% on the proper roster.

The crowd - Should be declared nuclear whipping boy and be used for calibrating missiles. Wishing, chanting and hoping matches better than they were, and oh so desperate to get themselves over. You'd start to get into a match then be taken out by a 'this is awesome' chant not related to what's going on in the ring.

I don't think you can remotely measure Nakamura's potential on a normal show based on this crowd. I could see a lot of people watching him shucking and jiving and just thinking 'WTF?'.

  6. On the supporting the companies idea - I have a NJPWWorld subscription. My laptop has kicked the bucket so I'm stuck with getting the shows via a five finger discount to play on an Xbox thanks to them having no app for Xbox or download option. So, I've still paid for it because it was worth it and a good quality product.

Now however, the shows have largely become bollocks (to me anyway) and it seems like a waste of money. Think I'll give NWAClassics.com a crack for a while, even though nobody mentions it, possibly due to little to no bootlegging of it online.

A tenner might not seem like a lot of money, but it could be for somebody else. Without getting too preachy about it, if you have £120 to spare on a double subscription maybe you could make it do more than just paying for Fandango's catering.

  7. With Wrestlemania being the only strong name show they have, I can see them doing a second show also billed Wrestlemania halfway through the year. That way they get two monster shows and everybody's happy. That could easily work.

Then, of course, after a few years they'll do it 14 times in one year and it'll be back to square one.

  8. On the MSL and Sullivan show they brought up some great points about UR Fight. They like the blurring of lines between work and shoot and put forward the idea of a company running worked matches using MMA guys where the commission would almost want to/have to prove it was a shoot, rather than the promotion pushing that idea. So, Shamrock is suspended. Why not still put him in against Severn and have them have a shoot, then say it's pro wrestling and make the commission prove it was a shoot.

It sounds a bit silly, but I don't think it's ever happened and I can definitely see stuff going that way at some point. Would actually be fun to go back to a more sports based product than comedy all the time.
