Regal did have a good run in New Japan…7 YEARS AGO!As I said earlier, I used to be a fan of Regal’s work back in the mid 90’s, yet the modern day Regal is clearly a shadow of his own self in terms of motivation and attitude towards his craft.Well , whoopdee-do. From one bunch of boring crap to another. . Regal fitted in great in New Japan aswell.
Go watch his two singles matches with Rey Misterio Jr from last autumn. Angle clearly was smart enough to adjust his style to fit in with Rey’s Lucha esque style, in fact Angle tapped into Rey’s in-ring style far better than what the likes of Chris Benoit & Eddie Guerrero did in singles matches with Rey in the following weeks.Regal couldn’t even be bothered to modify his style to work with Chris Jericho. Kurt Angle > Steve RegalSurely a fairer comparison would be this: Could Angle have great matches in AAA?

What a load of pretentious crap Just because I passionately dislike Regal's recent work doesn't automatically mean I subscribe to McMahon's vision of what a pro wrestler should be. The simple the fact is that I dislike modern day Regal because he clogs up my TV screen with appallingly disjointed matches, primarily due to the fact that’s he's now totally unwilling to adjust his style in order to fit in with whatever opponents he’s working with.As for the "little things" he does, well I can watch any two-bit All Star worker run through the uppercut and forearm across the face routine...I'll just stick to watching the likes of Doug Williams, Matt Stryker, Tom Cater and Chad Collyer work the “Carny” style more much effectively. Some people appreciate Regal. Others are happy to endure a monopoly promotion in the US that churns out and will continue to churn out identical muscleboys who all have the 'WWE look' but don't know the meaning of charisma or subtleties in the ring. It's all suplexes and finishers from now on. This exact same debate has gone on for years.Keep the Cenas, O'Haires, Jindraks, Ortons, Edges, Angles and Batistas of this world, and I hope you enjoy them (or get used to them - many more carbon copies to come). I'd rather watch Regal. You've got a promotion that is gradually converging to all the wrestlers looking and wrestling exactly the same way. At least Regal offers something different, a dying craft, from the same bland factory-produced homogeneity.

I’m definitely with Mo on this one. It’s not a case of Regal of being “different”; it’s all down to the fact that Regal is both physically and mentally incapable of modifying his style in any way at all…Which is in stark contrast to his work in WCW where he would modify his style to fit his a wide variety of opponents…Whether he be up against a similar style worker in Larry Zybsko or a Jap-Lucha style worker in Ultimo Dragon.Regal is now nothing more than a stubborn washed up wreck of a wrestler…The entire notion that he’s some sort of anti-establishment super worker is hilarious.

YES! If you're going to do a "dubious" pick then at least choose one of the coolest mother-fuckers walking the earth. *Starts doing the Parka strut for no particular reasonLa Parka - This will no-doubt raise a few eyebrows, but everyone to their own. First time i saw La Parka in WCW i chuckled away to myself for a few minutes thinking in a general 'oh god whats this' attitude; 6ft 3", beer belly, wearing a skeleton outfit and playing air guitar on a steel chair whilst wearing a sombrero - what else can you really think?..........Ten minutes later i had found a new wrestler to love. "He's not meant to do that is he?" - well is he? Your not meant to have someone that size doing what he does. It was baffling, suicide dives, topes, you name it he was doing it. It was fantastic, i just couldn't get enough. The guy just oozed charisma and the fans LOVED him. The amount of 8 man tags on PPVS or even opening matches on Nitro, etc he just totally warmed the crowd up without actually doing anything OTT. He just seemed to have a natural talent for performing and playing to the crowd and became one of the reasons i watched Nitro each week towards the end. When he wasn't playing the comedy side of things, he could be a damn good wrestler, especially as a heel. Teasing to dance, the crowd pop and then he just gives the 'nah, fuck it' signal and carries on beating down his opponent. Not a very good reasoning there i suppose, but at the end of the day wrestlings about being entertained and La Parka always pressed the right buttons for me

The way I see it......both guys are equally to blame for the WresteMania debacle, clearly they didn't trust each other throughout the entire match and neither guy was willing to swallow their pride and drop their guard in order to let the match flow. Of course Bret was the veteran who had worked similar matches in the past so in theory he should have been the one who tried to rescue the match.....yet that didn't happen because A) Bret was clearly wary of Michaels past antics and was unwilling to put himself in a situation where he could look weak and B) Michaels wouldn't have let Bret boss the match anyway because it always had to be the "HBK Show".....which all led to the match stalling and ultimately not benefiting anybody involved. That’s my take.
Regal returning?
