  1. An utter waste of time beyond making a load of money.

Is it that septic, sir? See, I'm a fan of the original trilogy, and Scream 2 is one of my all time guilty pleasures, so I've been very apprehensive about this. I'm supposed to be going with the missus tomorrow night, but I'm trying to talk her into Fast Five again...

Last flick I watched was Dead Snow, or D

  2. My thoughts exactly, I tend to only watch films of any genre that I think I will enjoy, I wouldn't enjoy watching that movie at all. Everyone that watches it seems to have an opinion on it which at times feels like they are trying to justify why they watched that shit to themselves as much as anything else.

  3. Just rewatched Battle:LA and found it much better the 2nd time round, easier to follow the pacing and to get to grips with the supporting cast. Unlike with people or songs, films are much less likely to get chance to make more than a first impression, so I find second viewings a must.

Also just downloaded Open Water & Open Water 2:Adrift to re-watch. I really like nature horrors and enjoyed them both first time around. I remember at the time of its release, a friend (dumb blonde) saying the first one was crap cause nothing happened, I don't know from the trailer and promo material what else she expected. Its a true story of a couple left in the middle of the shark infested ocean by accident, thats the premise and enough to tell you if you want to watch it or not. I wonder if she watched '127 Hours' recently and said the same thing.

The second one was fun, claims to be based on a true story but I don't believe it is, though the situation that occurs has happened before in real life, which is everyone jumping off a boat to have fun and swim but forgetting to put the ladder out to climb back on board, so they are stuck in the sea. The 5 people floating in the sea do some stupid things in the movie but if you can get past that its watchable.

I have a fear of the Ocean, its so big & powerful and you can't see what is going on under it, the thought of living your last hours/days in it and being consumed by the water or a shark at any minute is scary situation to be in.

If you like that type of film, 'The Reef' is also worth a look, that one is based on truth. A yacht capsizes and the people on board decide to swim miles to an Island they were just at but a Shark is stalking them.

  4. I've found this year pretty underwhelming for movies so far, there's been barely a thing I wanted to see, I'm subscribed to several trailer posting users on Youtube so I get dozens of trailers per week but nothing catches my interest, though both are really 2010 movies I saw True Grit & Tron Legacy this year and really liked them.

So that leads me to Battle:LA, I liked the trailer alot, so when the R5 DVD came online I gave it a download, I was going into it with awareness of the negative reviews so it could only be better than I was expecting and it was. Its not a great movie but it was a fun time passer. It really is like Black Hawk Down vs Aliens (not the 1986 movie), that's the best comparison I can make on what to expect. Think too many scenes slowed the pacing and it probably might have been better served by being 10 - 15 mins shorter. Also it really is Aaron Eckhart's movie, he's the only character that they really put any effort into developing, everyone else are just virtually faceless soldiers, only ones that stand apart are Michele Rodriguez cause she's a woman and Jim Parrack, only if you recognise him as Hoyt from True Blood however, neither are given anything to stand out from the pack.

The camera work also was nowhere near as shaky as I was expecting, its shot by Handcam but its not jerky and jarring at all, I expected it to be as jarring as Cloverfield by some things I read.

I think they have done a good job making each side feel like proper real life army soldiers even though one side are CGI creations.

Really a film for people that like soldiers shooting at each other, you won't get any great acting performances, dialogue or indeed anything you won't have seen before. Its been a box office hit so I wouldn't be shocked if a sequel ever popped up. Its just a fun movie if its the sort of thing you enjoy, I'd give it a 6 out of 10.

  5. I saw Hot Tub Time Machine last year and thought the same as pretty much everybody, while not awful its nowhere near as good as you think it might be. They plugged it to fuck on WWE TV so I shoulda known.

Anyways as I'm rewatching shitloads of DVDs at the min, I was looking at Daywatch (2004) & Nightwatch (2006) on the shelf and remembered the outcry years ago when Fox bought the rights and the last part of the trilogy was going to be an american made production. So as I was close to rewatching them I thought I'd check the status of the third part as I've paid no attention to it at all, it could have been out years for all I knew. So I was pretty disappointed to see Fox had done nothing with it and after 5 years of nothing the rights had reverted back to the Russians. So at least it'll get made now but fuck me, what a waste of time thanks to Fox, I hope the time passed doesn't spoil the continuity.

  6. Can anyone recommend some movies which features surprising twists or keeps you guessing throughout etc?

I've seen Usual Suspects, Memento etc but nothing else springs to mind.

The Machinist. Also, watch some Hitchcock.

Good calls. Could I also add 'Under Suspicion'. Despite having Gene Hackman, Morgan Freeman, Tom Jane & Monica Bellucci, its usually shown no attention. It even kept me guessing on second viewing cause I couldn't 100% remember the outcome. Maybe its lesser known cause it had such a low key release, for some reason it only hit 19 theatres in the states therefore only made 1% of its budget back, but its worth a look.

  7. Just watched We Were Soldiers for the 1st time. Would recommend to everyone

One of my favourite Vietnam films, the fact its true and based on a book written by 2 guys that were there (Mel Gibson & Barry Peppers characters) makes it more impactful, not as much as Band Of Brothers but in that direction. I don't think the first U.S. battle of the Vietnam war has been covered in a film, correct me if I'm wrong, so it adds extra interest in the face of the tons of Vietnam movies out there. One of my favourite Mel Gibson performances as well, I'm not his biggest fan either. Some good emotional scenes too, you'd have to have a heart of stone not to feel anything when the wives of the men in the battle have to deal with the 'death notification' telegrams that start coming in or think 'holy shit' during the 'Broken Arrow' sequence. Sam Elliott fits his character like a glove and is joy to watch. "Any of you son's of bitches calls me 'grandpa'....I'll kill you". In fact I'm slipping it in the DVD player now, after talking about it, I can't not watch it immediately.

It's in there with X Men 3 and Alien Vs Predator as the biggest missed opportunities in cinema history.

I can't agree with that. On the surface the idea of Alien Vs Predator is a cool one, but when you boil it down and try and think of how you could place that into a film that lived up to the quality of the original Alien and Predator films and for it to live up to their (general) quality, I think it was pretty much an impossible task. It was always going to be Sci-Fi Channel Mega Snake Vs Gateroid level junk.

Agree with Gladstone on this. You either like AVP or you don't but no matter what, you can't really change it from what it was. Its movie monsters vs movie monsters, even if they made it identical to the original comic book (which before it existed I hoped they would) it'd probably still be held in the same regard as the one that did get made.

Speaking of AVP. I was rewatching The Relic at the weekend and wondered if it influenced AVP:Requiem in the lighting department, both are dark as fuck, literally. Still think The Relic stands up well as a good B-movie, thanks to decent special effects and a Stan Winston monster.

  8. Disabled people usually make me uncomfy too. Not because of their disability specifically, but because you seem rude if you look at them. I usually look at people who I walk past anyway, whether they're disabled or not. I don't stare, but a casual glance. When you glance at a disabled person and they see you, you always think they must think you're staring at them because of it.

"When I see freaks in the street, I never ever stare at them, and yet I'm careful not to look away, see, because I want to make the freaks feel comfortable."

Awh man, we going there.. I dont give a shit. I used to, but so I use a stick so what?. Afaik many disabled people are the same. Remember the guy who fell off the train platform one new years and got both his legs amputated by an on coming train cos he was larking about, he was in my course at uni, he didnt give a shit either!

Good job then, he wouldn't have a leg to stand on.
  9. Are you saying it now from a fathers perspective or have you always thought that.

I've always thought it. When I met the person I wanted to share my life with, having kids was always something we both wanted to do. For me, it's a massive part of the whole relationship thing. I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't want to "grow their own".

My dad was shit, just shouldn't have been a father, wanted kids then lost interest soon as I was born, I was just in the way of my mum getting his tea ready on time. While I wouldn't be as bad, I just don't have the interest in being a dad or being in a stable family environment. So why would I want to have a kid and bring it into that. No kids for me, ever. Not on purpose anyway.

My Dad was a cunt. Only made me more determined to be better.

Me too. And by making the decision not to have a kid, I've bettered my dad by making a good, realistic choice. I've no doubt bad parents can benefit the next generation/grandkids more often than not but its not for everybody.

  11. Thanks for all the anti-Mothers on Facebook posts, that annoys me too. I don't care if somebody's lil cherub has eaten its own poo, seriously how shit a mother are you to let a baby get its hands on its own shit whilst you change it.

Other thing that annoys is the mountain of posted pictures of babies wearing footwear, for who's benefit are their feet being crushed into tiny Reeboks, to me theirs fuck all point in them wearing shoes till they are walking about outside. Stupid parents wasting money.

  12. Tough choice on about half of those nominated but its down to C/W Mark & Emperorseb for me.

I mean Mark has so much going on, contradictions, possible brain damage, homophobia, Jackson love turning to hate, the Rage stuff, the 'Don't use my real name rant, only to change his user name to his real name' type bollocks. But at the end of the day I get amusement from the great 'tard.

Emperor on the otherhand just talks bollocks, gets owned to shit then retorts two months later with more mental, just a dolt but not in a amusing way so he gets my vote.
