  1. I'm kind of shocked Just Me isn't up for this, but anyway I found this poll so hard to vote in as most of the nominees deserve a vote.

Just Me rules.Should Classics really be here? :/
It's because of his off topic 'hilarities'.
  2. Quick question: Who are the current IWGP tag champions-I've searched around and the closest I came up with was that Tanahashi and Nakemura won the titles at the end of last year...are they still champions or do someone else hold those belts now?

Yep - still champs. I think they've been working in Mexico lately.Recent IWGP title histories here.
The titles are actually being defended tonight at Arena Mex against Olimpico & Rey Bucanero. I doubt there'll be new champs though.
  3. Thanks a lot for that, fascinating stuff. It's amazing how much of an influence Muchnick had in keeping the NWA as a cohesive unit. I wonder if things would have been different if he was still in power when Vince went for it. Were there any examples of the NWA trying to prevent Vince from using arenas which was so prevelent in their dealings with outlaw promotions? As an example, in Chokehold, Wilson talks about his trouble in booking the Omni Arena. I know Vince was an actual member of the NWA so was he exempt from stuff like that?

  4. I'm slowly working my way through Chokehold which is a great read showing the depths at which the NWA went to in order to keep things 'proper' in relation to outlaw promotions and blacklisting of wrestlers. From this, I was wondering what was attempted to try and quash Vince's nationalisation of the WWF? Surely they didn't just let him expand into territories which weren't his own, or did they? My knowledge of this subject is very poor so I'm not sure even if the question is a valid one, but can anyone provide a rough summary of what went down? :)

  5. It's quite laughable that people actually think FWA are a big UK promotion when in fact most wrestling fans in Britain have probably never heard of them. Just because FWA are the darlings of the internet doesn't mean they are a major force in UK wrestling. Hopefully other feds are given the opportunity to have shows broadcast on TWC as 1 South Easterly based company won't do shit to reinvigorate British wrestling.

  6. What was so unprofessional about the way he conducted himself during those matches? I haven't seen either of them so I'd appreciate it if you could fill in the details. :)

Well, in the Vader match, Vader was out of position when Shawn was gonna do the elbow off the top. Shawn instead chose to stomp him 3-4 times as hard as he could right on the face, along with saying every dirty word in the book to him, audible (sp?) on camera. In the Sid match, the crowd booed Shawn and he threw a fit. In the beginning it was just slight boos, but the way Shawn reacted to them, he basically turned the entire place against him. When it happened to The Rock at last years Summer Slam, he basically went with it and played to them, where as Shawn basically through his body language (and words) told them all to fuck off and stop bothering him. You could say it was a great performance to turn heel, but as is wasnt meant as such, it came off totally unprofessional.
Whilst I don't like to judge a wrestler on their supposed backstage influences, it's sometimes hard to do. What HBK did in those matches in my opinion gives a clear indication about the real Michaels, a person who, if he doesn't get his own way, would take his ball home with him. It's very easy to see that HBK was a very talented wrestler, but it seems clear that he was a person who had to have his own way. I know this debate has nothing to do about backstage antics, but when it's brought into the ring it's hard not to see it as a factor. Also, I know many ex-wrestling fans who were in to the whole 'attitude' era. Most of them were huge fans of Austin, but a large proportion also had fond memories of Shawn Michaels. I would say most of them were casual fans as they would only watch it when it was going through a phase of popularity, but many of them were Michaels fans.
