BORIS ZHUKOV! Great stuff. I think you should be approaching Piper's face turn soon.

There are some real hints in his commentary that he will turn. He keeps mentioning about the Mid-Atlantic Title compared to Slaughter US Title, maybe thats where the turn will come, i dont know. Never followed this early on. Piper is a face at Starrcade 1983 isnt he?

  2. Been going way back lately with watching Mid-Atlantic from 1982, its really good, some of the talent they had down there in the early 80s was amazing, Ricky Steamboat, Jake Roberts, Barry Windham, Terry Taylor, Jay Youngblood and Austin Idol. As-well as some bigger names like Ole Anderson, Stan Hansen, Ivan Koloff and Sergeant Slaughter, but the main man for me, is a 27 year old Roddy Piper. This so good on the mic even back then, hes started to do commentary on the TV show. Watching the old school raw and seeing how he build the world title match with one promo, you should see what he does each week. He comes across as a tweener at the moment, but he mainly interviews the heels.

Its funny how story-lines we see today were played out in 1982. Take Alex Shellys paparazzi gig he was doing a couple of years ago, well Austin Idol has started coming and filming matches at ringside. The main story-lines of 1982 are the crowning of the new NWA World Tag Champions, the Anderson (Ole and Gene) were stripped as champion because of Genes injury. Now a worldwide tournament is taking place. Whats brilliant is they get matches from Florida, WWF and Georgia to show on air, even some commentated by Vinny Mac. It looks like we are building to a Briscos-Ole/Hansen final.

The other main feud is Slaughter and his privates Jim Nelson and Don Kernodle who are beating down the younger talent. The talent mainly being aimed at is Ricky Steamboat, Jake Roberts and Jay Youngblood. I know where this builds to, Im currently watching March 1982, the feud ends in March 1983 at a show called Final Conflict. Thats booking for you, the match that ends it is Sgt. Slaughter and Private Don Kernodle Vs Ricky Steamboat and Jay Youngblood in a cage match for the NWA Tag Team Titles. Great and simple build.

ANd occasionally the World Champion pops up, Ric Flair were he builds up a local house show.

Save your time if I were you alpha. From when I was selling off a bunch of my discs several weeks back this guy was nothing but a timewaster. Wanted stuff, would ask the price (even though it was clearly stated how much each disc was), then would request paypal address and then not send the money. I got rid of everything anyway, but I wouldn't waste your time on this guy.

He did the same with me...

  4. What happened to Dillkid? Did he get banned? I haven't noticed him replying to every single post for a while now.

Yup, he got banned. He initially got a few weeks suspension, came back, hadn't learned his lesson then was canned for good. I don't know what the straw that broke the camel's back was, but the last thing I remember was another one of his 'Rest in Piece (sic)' posts and then some terrible reply he gave when he was called out on it...again.

Without sounding like this is a witch hunt, but i noticed his name on th UK Pal Tape Trading Board...

  5. Who has also been involved in ROHs most emotional feuds. Who the fans did connect with? Strong and Richards are hardly giants? He can get a feud over, and that's something I don't see in ROH at the moment (bar Steen-Generico) He'd be a man who would act like he would die for the belt.

He wouldnt need to hold it long, but I bet my last pound the man who took the belt of Jacobs would be alot better for it than if he took it off someone generic looking and lame promo skills.

This is simply what I'd like to see, something different, something you didn't see coming.

  6. ........ So you think a guy who's not been with the company in over a year and had a bit of a public falling out with the owner is going to win the belt?

    Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

I do hope Davey Richards takes it, but I see Strong being the more likely choice at GBH. Still, Strong vs Richards at FB title vs career sounds better than Black vs Richards did.... But then I am an utter mark for every time Strong and Richards beat the shit out of each other.

IMO ROH is stale at the moment. It needs a kick up the ass, and needs to grab peoples attention. Something out if left field would tigger peoples interests again.

Now this is just my opinion, I'd love to see Richards win the belt, bit it's very unlikely if he's retiring. I can't buy into Strong as champion.

  7. My moneys on Jimmy Jacobs to take the belt. Strong and Davey are too easy and predictable. Definitly not A Double again. I wish it would be Hero, but his tag team commitments means it won't be.

Jacobs may not be a long term champion, but it'll give a chance for a great promo guy to hold the belt, much like Raven of the 90s. It'll come full circle, Jimmy introduced Black and ends Black.

  8. I love this thread. Been looking for it for a while, I'm watching ECW from 1997, I'll throw in a couple of reviews later. From my previous posts, I was in April 96 of Nitro, got all the way through to June 98, there talking about a big show at the Georgia Dome, I wonder if anything big happens there?

ECW from 1997 is my main watch at the moment building towards Barely Legal. It hasn't been mentioned yet there is going to be a PPV but have hinted...

I'll be back later with a review.

  9. Not long after Raw first started, we just used to get the highlights on Mania with Todd Pettengill. There was definately a match between "The Model" Rick Martel and Mr. Perfect that ended during a Raw commercial break.

The match was in progress, and Raw cut to a commercial. On Mania we cut to Pettengill in the studio informing us that, yes Raw had gone to a commercial, and, when Raw returned... they cut to Perfect in the ring with some female models!

Obviously, they did this to emphasise that Raw was 'live and uncensored' and that 'anything could happen', which made sense.

What didn't make sense, to me anyway, was that they would show this on a highlights program...

I remember this! When I read the question I instantly remember this happening. Mania did basically show Raw, but missed out anything that was non PG for the time I think, WWF didn't get shown on a primetime slot......

  10. Simiular to the second to last post made, around 2005 didn't TNA ban their guys from doing indie dates? Becuase I swear the MCMG does ROH sometimes?

They didn't ban indie dates completely, just insisted their guys didn't work for ROH anymore after Rob Feinstein got rumbled trying to fuck people your age. They're much looser with it these days based on RF apparently having no affiliation.

They banned there performers back in 2004 for the RF issue. That's when Punk chose ROH. In 2007 when ROH got PPV TNA banned there performers. Homicide, Daniels, MCMG & Joe were banned from ROH due to not wanting there people on someone else PPV, they finished by May 2007. On the flip side, Daniels wasn't doing alot after dropping the tag titles. Joe had done everything in ROH. Shelley hadn't been in ROH probadly for over a year, Sabin longer. And Homicide was really getting a good push in TNA at the time am made sense for him to stick with them. But that didn't stop him giving a farewell speak at ROH first PPV. 2006 in ROH as much as people say it was Dragons year I argue that Homicde had just as good as a year girding with Cabana, CZW, Cornette, Briscoes and Danielson. The crowd heat when Sinclair (I think he ref) rang the bell at Destiny? For Stoppage in the Danielson title match. Oh and Cides entrance to Cage Of Death....

Wow ROH was hot in '06....

  11. Kings of Wrestling Vs MCMG is going time limit I'm calling it now. MCMG won't win as it's a title match, KOW win clean wod susprise me, unless it's a cheap finish which done right wont take away from what an awesome match it will be. Maybe as good as the Wolves/Danielson & Black 45 minute draw last year.

  12. This thread is great, I'm currently watching nitro 96 and it's starting to really pick up. Around April ATM just waiting for hall to show up and it gonna really take off. The flair savage fued is really interesting even if liz can't be a heel to save her live. On to April 29 now. Keep up the good work.

You should give us your take on the shows. It isnt an exclusive thread. Should be good to hear people's opinions all these years later.

will return tomorrow with some interesting findings of early 96 that I've noticed and general thoughts.

Liz was slightly better as a heel in the nWo later on. Probably the black leather effect. If you've got 97 nitros, you'll probably enjoy them more, although the 2nd half of 96 with the nWo is pretty damn good tv too, and after the whole can wcw trust Sting and the shaeningans of Fall Brawl 96, his one man crusade on the nWo in 97 is some of the best wrestling shows I've ever seen.

up until I start trading in the summer I hadn't seen alot of nitro from this era maybe the odd episode on TNT and as for ppv it's only been what's on wwe DVDs and the old pink best of home videos. I'm itching to get to the summer of 96 and just got nitro 97 on it's way so gunna have a busy couple of weeks.
