  1. Watched dear Zachary after reading this thread and don't think I've saw a more powerful documentary in my life. Ended up buying the book the dad wrote and reading it in a day after.

One of those programmes you see and just can't stop thinking about for a few days afterwards.

Also watched the imposter today which is just mind boggling.

  2. I'm reading old observers at the moment and noticed this in the here and there section from a 1998 listing:

Sky TV in England will be starting a weekly 30 minute wrestling show on 3/30 which will air both current All-Star Wrestling matches along with classic British matches from the 70s and 80s when it was popular on ITV

    Did this ever actually air?

  3. I'm up to day 18 now and it's easier to watch for me with English commentary getting to know more about the wrestlers and back stories. How many events do new Japan world broadcast in English? Is the super J cup in English?

  4. I don't know much at all about Japanese wrestling but thought I'd give this years tournament a shot but it's been hard work watching it.

The first nights sanada/tanahashi and marufuji/okada matches were incredible but then it just seemed like sanada and marufuji jobbed out most of the tournament sanada more so when it looked based on the first night it could have made him that win.

The ishii okada match was incredible but every match has had a tedious count out spot and it became a chore after the fourth night. I guess Japanese wrestling just isn't for me but I don't think I could watch any promotion near every day a month and not get sick of it.

  5. Just watched that developmentally speaking its the second shoot I've seen with Sydal and he doesn't half come across as a cock. I've never even heard of Rob Naylor but the way he leans over and stares at Sydal then turns back and twitches his nose is really distracting he does it a good number of times as well.

  6. Does anyone watch Videogame Nation?

Its on Challenge at the weekends. Its a half hour programme, usually dedicated to a particular game / genre, but at the moment they are doing a series on most influential games. They have done the 80s, last week was the 90s and next week is the 00s.

I can't really remember the 80s, but for the 90s they had -

    Super Mario 64

    Resident Evil

    Tomb Raider

    Command & Conquer

    Mario Kart

    Pokémon

    Street Fighter 2

    Doom

    Secret of Monkey Island

    Metal Gear Solid

No Goldeneye which surprised me seeing as I remember Goldeneye revolutionising multiplayer.

Anyway its a pretty good little programme. Some of the talking heads are a bit annoying but overall its a fun show, if you're into games check it out

I watch this but one of the female talking heads looks the spitting double of Russell Howard, very off putting.  Another thing that has started really annoying me is the Australian blokes catchphrase of high def high five when the channel is broadcast in standard definition.  Other than that its easy to watch.

  7. Raven was on Jericho's show the other week and moaned that Paterson not liking him was the only reason he didn't get a big run during 00/01 WWF run. Wasn't the fact that Austin/Rock etc were still about, or that he looked and talked like a complete tit.

Also refused to reveal the secret genius behind his 7 deadly sins angle (he's saving it for his book) that wasn't even good enough for Heat.

That'll be the 7 deadly sins storyline he explained in full detail on a rf shoot and forgot about. Some book exclusive that'll be.

  8. Just finished kanyons book. Good book but the ghost writer is a fucking moron no idea how half the errors got past quality control? Things like talking about Rey mysterio being heavily tattooed when he first came in from Mexico and Jim Mitchell managing tajiri in the invasion.

  9. After reading his third book Jericho is starting to become the new Mick Foley to me in the sense that he has a greatly over inflated opinion of himself.  How he sees his surprise return at the royal rumble as a fantastic moment is laughable.  He seems to have to convince himself of what he's writing and doesn't grasp the law of diminishing returns.

  10. Was close with the 450 knew it had juvi in it!

Totally forgot about that hogan NJPW ad as well. It's incredible to think how you managed to get the channel up and running herbie. Shame it didn't last but at the time it launched it was an amazing time to be a wrestling fan in the UK. I wonder what the channels output would have been like if the barb rating system wasn't so out of date.

  11. Having listened to the podcast interview (which was a great listen) and looking at the Web archive of the site I have a few more questions.

    1. Who compiled the best of shows and do you still have copies of them? If so any chance of uploading them to YouTube as you have the international showdown show?

    2. Is the original advert available to upload that was shown after wrestle mania xx? Would love to see that again if possible.

    3. I completely forgot about the 'text this number to see the move of the week' on the website at £3 a pop. I'm really interested to know if anyone ever text in and if the move was ever changed?

Cheers love this thread was devastated when I moved back home to coincide with the ending of transmission.

  12. Brilliant thread this so many memories! I'll always remember taping the test shows on friendly tv I'm sure there was a match with burchill and me thinking he would be the UKs goldberg at the time.

My question is about an obscure ident I seem to recall of someone wearing a dressing gown and running up a hill? What was all that about? I'm sure there was another one with a banana in a blokes mouth or something?

  13. I really cant believe this, Benoit has been my favourite wrestler since Bret Hart. I am going to have to watch the Bret/Benoit tribute to Owen match before raw my favourite Benoit match ever :( I cant believe it.
