  1. Chris Hamrick was by far and away my favorite import the FWA ever brought in. He was not particularly well know, but his matches were solid, his timing was impeccable, and he knew when to throw in the right amount of comedy (much of which I borrowed (cough cough stole) in the Tex Benedict early days).

  2. What happened to that questionaire/paper you were writing on british wrestling darren?

Hey Hitman,I spent many hours working on this, I think I called it The Gold Belt Standard of British Professional, and had some preliminary discussions with FSM magazine about them publishing it. This was about the time when they had a change in editor (moving from James to Martin), and the new editor was not in any way interested. I think this was a shame, as I was proposing a unique qualitative study whose aim was to document and provide a snapshot of the UK scene, highlighting best practices, and making some recommendations to improve the UK scene. At that time, I felt i was in a good position, with contacts in almost every promotion, and at every level (promoter, worker, photography, videography, website design etc.), plus I really did have no personal agenda. Alas, it never saw the light of day.
  3. Great post and attitude Mark. Fuck me, it's Jewish Darren who I remember having chats with at various wrestling shows (not just FWA) around Mark Petar's VHS / TV combo. So you're actually living in the USA? I have a lague memory (could be wrong) but didn't you do some sort of "USA loyalist" gimmick at some point? Around 2003?

Yeah, my gimmick for most of my "career" was an American...living the gimmick!

  5. What I want to know is, what happened to Jewish Darren? He always used to be around that scene. Not sure if he worked FWA shows or not though. I remember topics about him on TWO, seemed like a nice chap.

He wrestled a fair bit afterwards as Tex Benedict and he was training at LDN for a little while when working for them. Last I heard he'd moved to the USA I think and possibly even gotten married. He was a really top bloke, one of the nicest guys I met while training years ago.
Aww, well thanks guys. Retired, married and indeed living in the good ol' US of A.In all honesty, I was merely an FWA fan, and part time trainee with them for a few years. I think I may have been on one or two shows, but this was much later in the FWA process, when sadly it was a on a down turn. I do remember heading to many many FWA shows, and still consider this a golden age in modern British Wrestling. So many great shows, and eye-opening performances.Broxbourne was one of my favorite venues to watch shows at, and had a special feel as a fan for a long time. My favorite FWA memory has to be THAT balcony jump....you all know the one. I was literally 3 seats away from Jody when he made the jump, and if you ever get to see the video, I am looking totally miserable (teenage angst i have no doubts). In my head though, I was marking out like a little baby! The FWA was a great period of time in modern British Wrestling!
  6. What's your take on the Youk trade to the White Sox, Darren? You happy with the deal your club got?

Very happy! To be fair as good a player as Youkillis WAS, Middlebrooks is better right now than he IS.

Plus the speculation about his negative influence in the clubhouse - it was best for the Red Sox and best for Youk!

I also think that Brent Lillibridge has a great upside, and could be a big help down the stretch!

  7. In the past 2 weeks i have been to Wrigley Field to see My Boston Red Sox take on the Cubs and to Fenway yesterday to see The Sox beat the Braves, which turned out to be Kevin YOOOOOOUUUKKKilis final appearance in a Red Sox uniform!

Crazy stat, but the Red Sox have lost more "days" (on the DL) to injuries this year than the entire season last year.

Loving the MLB love on the UKFF!

  8. I found it interesting the post where someone said they would like to de-promote backyard wrestling. This just isn't going to happen. You might as well tell all the smart marks on the internet to not be so critical about pro wrestling than to try and tell these stupid twats just how damn stupid they are. I tried it a couple of years ago with a couple of columns (shill: these are still on my website) after I was approached by a Norfolk backyard group about commentating on some of their videos. Although I got a great deal of support, I also got a ton of shit from the backyarders. You guys might as well go and talk to a brick wall rather than try to talk these twats out of backyarding.
In fairness i honestly believe that we can do something about banning backyard wrestling.Just because you failed - doesnt mean that as a joint collective of people we cannot succeed. There are enough wrestling schools in Britain all over the place - where these backyarders should learn the craft that is professional wrestling. There are even promtions that will promote "hardcore" wrestling in a show.Im just thinking out-loud that there are hundreds of people on this forum who could DO SOMETHING MPOSITIVE FOR BRITISH WRESTLING.
  9. But I'm wondering, it showed those guys going to Dropkixx and going almost straight into a match without learning anything. A bit of holds, but no bumping, no practice. Unless they do it a little different there, isn't that a little misleading to the Backyarders who see it and think how exciting it must be to go straight into a ring, when really there would be a lot more focus on saftey and learning the basics?
To be fair that was for the backyarders to "show what they could do" which was bump really badly, as was pointed out by the instructor.
But my point is that these backyarders should NOT get the priveledge of being in a ring infront of people - and especially one of the most influential men in Britih wrestling (alex Shane). There are plenty of people at dropkixx who deserve the time to wrestle in a ring a lot more than those two - and i should know as i have trained many of them myself. The instructors should have been more responsible and not allowed these backyarders into a ring - there is plenty of matted area on which they should have shown whether or not they can bump - the most important part of any wrestling training.I do not disagree that the instructors on the show pointed out that they couldnt bump - but they let them in their ring. I feel that was very responsible.
  10. Well, the show has just finished, and i am still cringing. My opinion on backyarders has not changed - they are a discrace to professional wrestling and an embarrassment. Why channel 4 would want to in essense promote this is beyond me - it was very disturbing.Dropkixx did not come off that badly - which is a good thing. However it seemed to me that as a wrestling school - these two backyarders should not have been put in a ring until they had shown that they can bump adequately and that they know what they are doing. The stuff that we saw them perform was very very poor. Their bumping was wrong and whilst this was acknowledged, it seemed that they were being given an oppourtunity that should be earned. When training to be a pro, you should not be allowed in a ring until you have learned how to execute a simple bump, the moves that the two backyarders performed were highly dangerous and their bumping was very bad and performed wrong. This to me shows dropkixx in a bad light. If backyard wrestling is promoted on the internet then I would like to be the first person to DE PROMOTE backyard wrestling - and why not start this de promotion on the internet. As a wrestling forum which contains wrestlers, promoters and fans alike we should come together to NOT support backyard wrestling. The person who said "i will stop when someone gets badly hurt" really sums up the whole backyard wrestling mentality. Have these KIDS not heard of people getting injured in professional wrestling - Droz has been paralysed and he was trained professionally - this should be warning enough. Please - Lets do something about this.

  11. I understand that dropkixx wrestling school are featured on the show - however may i make it clear that without even seeing the show - In no way do dropkixx support or wish to promote backyard wrestling. If the show does give off this impression then I wish to apologise, but also with to state for the record that i had no part in the organisation, filming or content of any section featuring dropkixx.I am 100% against backyard wrestling and do not agree with it at all. I am however interested to see what the show will be based on and how they incorporate dropkixx into it.Tex Benedict
