  1. This is the first season where i won't be playing cricket, i'm pretty gutted but new job commitments mean i have to work most weekends. I've played since i was about 8 and have steadily moved up from the middle order to become an opening bat. I bowl left arm medium pies if i have to bowl,i get some movement but no pace. I played at university which was an absolute hoot, we played at various uni's including Oxford. We also toured Malta and played their team in a couple of matches.

here's the link for an article about the tour

Since then i've played for a few local sides and for some friendly teams, but am helping my nephew train as he's been scouted by the ECB disability coach.

I'd still like to play for a sunday team or even a friendly side, but not sure if i'm going to have the time.

The stories and banter that comes from being in a cricket team has outweighed any other teams i've been involved with.

  2. Totally agree Baz, i think the fact that the team has been unchanged apart from the one match has helped too. Yardy has really suprised me to be honest, when i've seen him doemstically he just seems like any ordinary county player, but he has aquitted himself superbly on the international stage.

What's been more suprising is the performances of some of the other teams i.e. India,South Africa,Sri Lanka. To me these teams seem too one dimensional and only really England and Australia have looked dynamic in terms of their performances.

I like the opening pair, they remind me of club cricketers who try and mow everything to the boundary. But you are right about the risk they take playin this way and if we do play Australia they could struggle against Tait and Nannes.

  3. Sorry to bump this thread. But for those of you who haven't been keeping upto date with the ICC World Twenty20 tournament in the carribean, England have qualified for the final where they will face Australia or Pakistan.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how well England have played so far and their chances in the final?

Im pretty excited for the final and with my England hat on i think they may just win it.

  4. Had a great day at finals day yesterday, it's a really good day out with a good atmosphere. Lots of great indivdual innings, Dwayne Smith was the highlight, wow he had all the shots, unfortunately apart from the reverse sweep or else he could have done even more damage. In both his innings Tresco looked like a machine, the final could have been a lot closer had he stayed in.

Biggest cheer was when, lets say a larger lady, finally got onto the Bucking Bronco. Then she falls straight off after a boundary. Some good fun in the stands too when everyone had a few, some of the chants, particularly at an over-zealous steward were great.

i agree it was a really good day out although i had to go play cricket at 10 this morning so am in need of some sleep!!

tres was amazing, but that knock from Dwayne Smith was something else, i was a little gutted because i had bet on Somerset to win.

Also i backed Bomber in the mascot race, pity he got disqualified after winning.

  5. Yep i'll be there too tomorrow. Forecast looks decent which is good.

My team, Worcester, aren't involved so like you i'm just looking forward to a bumper day of Twenty20 with plenty of food/drink and of course the Mascot Derby!!! The winner of Kent/Somerset looks the best bet but you never know with Twenty20

i too am a Worcester fan, no suprise we are not there due to the unrest going on at new road. i think Kent will win they always seem to do well at twenty20s

  6. im gutted about Pieterson being ruled out, but i think Ian Bell will do a job for us (well i hope) as he's a nice fella and deserves a bit of good fortune at international level, not forgetting he is 2nd in the county averages this season at the moment.

my tickets for the first day at edgbaston came today, im more excited than my nephew who im taking with me :D
