  1. Have recently got round to listening to a load of songs posted on here. Think it's good to give people feedback if you liked something, to encourage more posting. So kudos to whoever posted the following. :-

    M. Ward - I have played this constantly for about a week now. I love this song. I'm usually put off by singer-songwriters 9 times out of 10. But this song is simply awesome. The tune, the lyrics, the man's voice. Can whoever posted this recommend an album to get started on?

The Walkmen - never heard any of their stuff before, but really liked this. I'd been put off before, as associated them (thanks to the music press) with the fucking awful Bravery.

M-83 - Such beautiful music made seemingly with a ZX Spectrum. Then did some research and found they're French, so not surprised. Album recommendation anyone?

The Wombats - A great tune. Seems they are unsigned, so don't expect that will last long...

  2. Don't think this has been posted anywhere yet. Here's a free, downloadable compilation:-

"'Warm & Scratchy' has been put together by animated comedy series 'Adult Swim', and features new/rare/previously unavailable tracks by The Rapture, The Good, The Bad & The Queen, TV On The Radio, 120 Days, Broken Social Scene and Les Savy Fav".

Haven't given it a listen, so it could be gash. But it's free, so quit whining be-yatches.

Anyhoo, here's something for a sunny day:-

Alan Braxe & Fred Falke - Intro

  3. I haven't posted anything new for a while, so I feel it's only fair I get to put a few tracks!

Grant Lee Buffalo - Mockingbirds (sorry, this is in whatever format I-tunes uses):-

Something I was listening to the other day, just reminded me of this rather excellent song from the early-90's. I know very little about them although I've heard some of Grant Lee Phillip's solo stuff.

Sticking with the early 90's, Senser - Eject:-

Suppose for anyone listening to this new now, it may sound a little dated. But for me, I'll always be in a sweaty tent at the Phoenix 93 festival (I should get my pipe and slippers, but I was very young then honest!) losing the plot to this band.

And just to prove the last few days have been a nostalgia trip, Ride - Twistarella:-

I will now be prepared to be shot down in flames, but this is easily one of my favourite songs ever. To be fair, this isn't your average Ride song and sticks out like a sore thumb in the same way that "Friday I'm in Love" by The Cure does.

  4. This ones from the end credits of Kill Bill 2. "Goodnight Moon" by Shivaree and instead of describing it I'm just going to tell you to download it now because it is so fucking good and if you don't like it then you suck.http://www.sendspace.com/file/0o2uri

I really like this track. It's one of the few highlights on the soundtrack for Kill Bill 2 IMHO. I liked it so much, it made it's way on to an all too rare compilation that I made for the missus a year or so ago. Cheers for the reminded to listen to it again.
  5. After receiving a comment about one I've posted (Yay!) have another Hope Of The States songHope Of The States - Blood MeridianThis song has a cracking video based on an old Commie propaganda vid. At their gigs they used to have images and films projected on the backdrop, hardly the first band to do it but I've never seen it done so well, no image was there for the hell of it, everything worked.EDIT -

I resisted taking the first track, as I'm still determined to buy the album. I thought their debut was excellent. Wonder if this track influenced by the Cormac McCarthy novel of the same name?
  6. This song rules. Kinda Doves-ish, but very uplifting, and a good summer tune:British Sea Power - Please Stand Up

I was listening to the album on the train this morning. The Land Beyond is superb and Oh Larsen B is probably best song about an iceberg ever...Anyway, here's my contribution for the day:-http://www.sendspace.com/file/me91p1Mylo vs Miami Sound Machine. If you're not at least tapping your foot to the song, there's something wrong with you. Or at least my taste in music in my old age.
  7. Is that...Is that David Essex? Really nice track by the way.Summer eh? This is me being summery, although it might not be you - Tripping Daisy - Rocketpop

It certainly is David Essex! Who would have thought he could be reformed into anything vaguely listenable. Here's the bonus track by Bent. Although the lyrics are very sad and melancholy, in a strange way I find it's country-tinged tune quite uplifting and a great summer song. It could just be me I suppose!http://www.sendspace.com/file/cnugu3
  8. What is the point of all these youtube blogs? I'm barely interested in hearing people talking about wrestling, let alone hearing people talk about other people talking about wrestling.

I agree and stumbled on this young chap in an unrelated search. Just enjoy the first minute or so of any one of his blogs. He's awesome.
  9. Some Indie / Alt-pop, whatever genre you want to pigeonhole into. Pavement-esque? Anyway, this is Tapes N Tapes, with "Insistor"http://www.sendspace.com/file/dqardr

Absolutely brilliant. Is the rest of the album as good?
Glad you liked it. That one's the stand out track for me on the album.Wouldn't want to prejudice your listening, so if I remember when I get home I'll put the rest of the album up for grabs. How's that?
  10. Perhaps not a tune for a Saturday night, but it's there for Sunday morning:-

This is off one of my favourite albums of last year - Howling Bells debut. At a time when most indie guitar bands were trying to be post-rock or revive the spirit of punk, they decided to sound like a road trip through the desert. And Juanita Stein has a fantastic voice too.

  11. Wesley Willis - Termites Ate My House UpJello Biafra of Dead Kennedy's fame found Mr Willis singing songs on the street for change. He gave the man a record contract on the spot. Now sadly deceased, we will always have his songs about termites, Christmas and such.PS - If no-one responds with a comment to another one of my tracks, I'll never post another one. Plus, lots of sulking.

I'll respond. I loved this. Speaking of Jello Biafra reminds me of the giddy thrill of getting my older brothers C90 of "Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables" when I was a nipper. The song also reminded me of some special children (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kids_of_widney_high):-http://www.sendspace.com/file/bukgfhDon't ask how I have this song.
  12. Summer's here again therefore it's time for some Power Metal!!Sonata Arctica - 'My Selene'Fun, fast and bouncy Power Metal from Sonata Arctica. Think Iron Maiden but faster and catchier.Avantasia - 'Reach Out For The Light'Same as above but with a much better chorus, a fantastic guitar solo and lots of high, hair-metal style singing.Kamelot - 'Center Of The Universe'This was the first Power Metal track I ever heard, this is what got me hooked. Warning: This songs chorus is really, really, really good.DragonForce - 'Black Winter Night'Believe it or not DragonForce have been around for quite a while, here's an excellent track from their very first album. It's instantly recognisable as DragonForce but it's not quite as ridiculous as the songs they're putting out these days.

OK, I have a pretty broad spectrum of taste and I'll try anything once. That being said, I can't imagine this is going to be my cup of tea. But I'll give it a go!
  13. Yeah, Green is third best, undoubtedly. Photograph is one of my favourite Weezer songs, though, so I always give it respect.Since we're loving Pinkerton, though, it'd be a waste not to post the awesome wrestling-related track off that album. I feel confident this is the only song to ever reference Johnny Grunge legdropping New Jack through a table in ECW. Correct me if I'm wrong:Weezer - El Scorchoedit: Goddammit it to hell, since everyone else is ignoring the premise and posting more than one a day, I may as well post Photograph as well...Weezer - Photograph

Oh the Weezer love is making me shed tears of happiness. I'm going to go out on a limb and say Blue is my favourite. Probably because I listened to the album so much when it came out. Saw them live at Reading 96 (showing my age now) and for some reason they took an inordinate amount of abuse. Loads of stuff thrown at them - cups filled with muddy straw (the straw having been put down to help out with the mud!). They seemed to take it all in their stride and think they enjoyed it. Must have been something to do with the rest of the line-up on the main stage that day. And the t-shirts they were selling which just said "Weezer - Rock Music" or something.
  14. Loads of people hate Push The Little Daises.I love it however. Especially the live version.

Who are they exactly? Let me know, as they should be hunted down and killed.Cheers for the additional Ween stuff. Have been slowly updating my old C90's so these very welcome. Can we have the live version? This is my mates band, Beeches. I happen to think they're rather good, but then I'm biased. Neil also spent far too much of his youth listening to Pavement:-http://www.sendspace.com/file/5r9povhttp://www.sendspace.com/file/c02llpI realise I've gone well over my song for the day, but I'm feeling generous. Having seen someone else liked Mew, have "Why Are You Looking Grave" featuring J Mascis:-http://www.sendspace.com/file/txt5l3
  15. Pavement-esque is probably the best I could do with Tapes 'N Tapes, as well. Kind of indie, but a bit wonky. In the same vein - and with an equally ludicrous name - here's some Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. The second album on the whole is far less of a Talking Heads tribute than the first, they've moved into their own sound a bit - although the singer still sounds like David Byrne in a drunken stupor.Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Some Loud Thunder

Cheers for that. I haven't got their new album yet - really liked their debut. Over and Over Again especially was a superb tune with great (if indecipherable lyrics). As today seems to be a "lo-fi" day, let's have some of The Spinto Band. I bought their album after seeing them on Jools Holland and it's easily one of my favourites from last year. This is one of the standouts - Brown Boxes - featuring perhaps the only use of kazoos I can think of. And for anyone just thinking, what a load of indie wank, then give it a try, it doesn't disappoint:-http://www.sendspace.com/file/7y8pydAnd some classic Ween:-http://www.sendspace.com/file/jxabbnI defy anybody not to like this song!
