  1. Well, I posted this on the ROH board, but it got deleted, because ROH mods/posters have no sense of hunour, so I thought I'd put it here. No Remorse Corps... to me that's a mere hop slip and a jump away from No Limit Soldiers? Will yelling "HOOTIE HOO!" improve Roderick's promo skills?

    That got deleted? Wow.
  2. We'll likely find out more in the next Observer but I think this has happened earlier than Gabe would like. ROH-NOAH was planned for longer than a month or so. Joe-KENTA would've happened this year and that's gone now, since KENTA is, I think, working with NOAH right up to March 4th. Looking at the matches they have scheduled, I suspect ROH have known for a short while but I believe Joe is leaving earlier than he and ROH would like. Joe leaving is rough and a blow short-term but, long-term, things will very likely be fine. They have plenty of good talent and will be looking to create a couple of stars this year. And, if he's willing, DRAGON WILL BE BACK! YAY! Rob.

  3. Have ROH ran any big shows so far in 2007, or is the Fifth Anniversary show their first?

Nothing big yet but some big ones coming soon. This is the Fifth Year Anniversary festival:16/Fe (New York): Includes Joe-Morishima, Homicide-Rave (ROH World Title) and Daniels/Sydal-Aries/Strong (ROH World Tag-Titles)17/Fe (Philadelphia): Inc. Homicide(if champ)-Morishima (ROH WT) and Joe-Richards23/Fe (Dayton): Inc. a Morishima match, Sydal-Aries and Homicide-Whitmer (ROH WT if Homicide champ)24/Fe (Chicago) Inc. Joe/Homicide-Morishima/McGuinness, Daniels/Sydal-Briscoes (ROH WTTs) and Jacobs-Cabana (Windy City Death match)03/Mr (Liverpool): Inc. McGuinness-Joe04/Mr (" "): Inc. Joe's last ROH match (for now) and McGuinness-Rave (Fight Without Honor...or, honour, as it's really spelt)Then they have the big Wrestlemania weekend shows on the 30th and 31st of March. It's a big month, basically!
  4. I think the DG 6-Man is alright. The execution is swank and as far as spot-fu type matches go it was nicely done. But it didn't help that nobody in the crowd knew the wrestlers, and that most of the stuff was a bit meaningless in the context they wrestled in. The crowd itself helps make it difficult viewing, with the 'please don't stop' and other crappy chants.I actually agree about the ROH ring needing changing, but I don't like the colous; the black makes it look really dull, I'd like to see them go with something brighter. Even things like that make the matches more enjoyable IMO. Needs to be bigger as well.My Top 5 in ROH 2006?1. Bryan Danielson v Samoa Joe (Fight Of The Century 05/08/06)2. KENTA v Roderick Strong (Throwdown 23/06/06)3. Jimmy Rave/Alex Shelley/Masato Yoshino v Dragon Kid/Genki Horiguchi/Ryo Saito (Better Than Our Best 01/04/06)4. Bryan Danielson v Alex Shelley (Arena Warfare 11/03/06)5. Austin Aries/Roderick Strong v CIMA/Naruki Doi (Better Than Our Best 01/04/06)Keep in mind that the last show I saw was Anarchy In The UK.

Out of interest, what do you want from a wrestling crowd?Rob.

I reviewed it here, http://ukff.com/index.php?s=&showtopic...t&p=1295245Though you might want to watch it unspoiled. Either way, this episode was almost exclusively BloodGen vs DF and was all gold. Best TV episode of 2005. Also, if you have any thoughts on the DG shows you're watching then please, please post them in the big Dragon Gate thread, it would be greatly appreciated.http://ukff.com/index.php?showtopic=49584
I bought this from JLM's recomendation and can happily concur that it seriously rocked
Thank you guys! JLM, following ROH and disliking spoilers are two things that do not mix. Your review was really good and I may post a couple of reviews on the DG thread. The only problem is, they'll be shows you'll have probably reviewed already and certainly have seen:23/Ap/06 P.P.V (Ryo Saito vs. Susumu Yokosuka headlining)05/Oc/05 P.P.V (CIMA vs. Taka Michinoku)Infinity #27 (Ryo Saito vs. CIMA)WrestlejamAnd soon I should have King Of The Gate 2005.I have questions about some of the stuff that happens on the shows so I'll visit the DG thread more often! Actually, right now, since I have a question about CIMA-Taka. Thanks again and I'll get onto ordering Infinity #23,Rob.
  6. The Dragon Gate six-man is one of numerous matches I want to re-watch. But I will say right now that I thought it was tremendous. I am not a lover of spotfests and, if anything, I'm a mark for long, technical matches (the Danielson-McGuinness Epic Encounter II match was just so bloody good!). Thankfully, I'm gradually becoming a mark for storytelling, good execution, strong booking and characters.

Anyway, I thought the little touches in the DG six-man made the match. You'd get one team focusing a series of double/triple teams on a single body part of an opponent (gut or head, for example). The first move would be quite strong, the second strong and the third really strong. Each move built on the last and reached a climax that elicited a good pop from the crowd. The whole match was built in that way, hence the huge cheers for the finish. Having seen no Dragon Gate at that point, I got that the two teams didn't like each other and that there was a face-heel dynamic.

I have four Dragon Gate discs now (King Of The Gate 2005 on the way) so I'm in the very early stages of building a collection. Seeking out the earlier Do Fixer-Blood Generation matches is now a priority!

  7. ROH slow down DVD releases at this time of year so people can catch up. The latest show they released is from 3rd November so I guess more will be out late January/early February but I'm not certain. Christmas spending is the main reason I haven't bought anything past the Glory By Honor shows. I'm gradually reviewing all the shows I have (very gradually as my reviews can be quite long) so I can post them here if wanted.

  8. This is a Dusty Rhodes promo from Summerslam '90. The set up (if you know the back story, just skip down to THE PROMO~!)

    ~

Sweet Sapphire had been receiving mystery presents from someone but nobody knew who it was. Dusty and Sapphire had been feuding with King Savage and Queen Sherri. At Summerslam, Sapphire was to wrestle Sherri and Dusty scheduled to wrestle Savage.

But on the night, Sapphire couldn't be found. She no-showed against Sherri, so Sherri won the match by forfeit. Nobody knew where Sapphire was, but Dusty was looking. So was Jim Duggan:

(Dusty is being interviewed in the back by Mene Gene. Hacksaw, totally at random, walks in)

Dusty: "Hey Hacksaw, have you seen Sapphire?"

Hacksaw: "NO I HAVEN'T DUST, BUT WE'RE ALL STILL LOOKING FOR HER." (randomly leaves)

    ~

Later, there was a sighting of Sapphire going into her dressing room but she wouldn't open the door. Dusty tried but failed. He then had to wrestle Savage but, after some cheating, he was defeated by the King.

    Then:

We quickly cut to Sean Mooney again who says that he tried to follow DiBiase to interview him "but he was too quick for me." Nice job there. DiBiase's limo is in the parking lot and out come Virgil, Sapphire and DiBiase. Dusty then LEGS IT to the back but the limo drives off. "SAPPHIRE! SAPPHIRE!"

"Alas," says Mooney, "Dusty Rhodes can not stop the car and we leave a very distressed...American Dream."

    ~

    Then, THE PROMO~! :

(Dusty is in the back, interviewed by Mene Gene.)

"What I call it Gene is EMOTIAAAN. This great sport and the World Wrestling Federation is built on EMOTIAAAAN. Sapphire took the moneeeeh, that's fiiiine. (pause)

I offered up my INNOCENCE to her, she paid me back in SCORN, NOW only AMERICA can give me shelter from the storm. And I am in a storm, baby. And walking out towards that cadillac and many thousands of fans were screaming "when you gonna get MAD Big Dust, when you gonna get BAD Big Dust, when you gonna get EEEEVEN Big Dust?" And Ted DiBiase, the Million Dollar Man, the man that can buy anything BUT Dusty Rhodes the American Dream, BUT the American way of life that lives in this heart! Ted DiBiase I'm getting BAD baby and I'm comin' for you! (storms off)"

    ~

It's such a good promo. Afterwards, I really wanted to see Dusty-DiBiase, although I'm not sure they ever did that on a P.P.V.

  9. Watching it live, the Aries/Strong-Briscoes match was very good and felt better than the main event. But I was sitting in the lower balcony and that DID NOT help with some of the detail of Danielson-McGuinness. On video, the main event is better. As much as I like the workrate in the tag match (they hit so damn HARD and it's crisp), there's one aspect of the story that bothers me. Legal tags. Yes. I am a nerd. But to illustrate my point (in the hope of making me seem somewhat less of a nerd), there was a moment when Strong was hurled out of the ring by a Briscoe. This Briscoe (I can't remember which one) was going to dive on Strong but Aries cut him off with a springboard clothesline. I am CERTAIN (from watching it back) that there was no tag, not even a blind tag. Aries then continued attacking this Briscoe before TAGGING OUT. First you have to TAG IN. If I missed a tag or they were fighting under Dragon Gate rules or something, I apologise. This wouldn't bother me as much in TNA but an ROH selling point is 'pure wrestling'. Therefore, they must have credibility in the rules as well as the wrestling. Of course, the match totally broke down into a wild finish where tags apparently stopped being necessary. This was VERY fun but totally against the 'rules'. Again, if I missed that all ROH tags are under special rules or something, I apologise and will review the match differently. It's a good-really good match and I enjoyed it loads. But the aspect of the story that I've mentioned will always prevent it from reaching a full 10-rating. At present, I'd rate it 8.5-9 (which is 3.75-4.25 stars, by my reckoning).
