I downloaded this after reading Ian's good review. Not had a chance to watch it but I have to say flicking through it, the look of the show has already put me off a bit. I fully admit, I'm a complete snob about wrestling that doesn't look big time. Other than ECW, I've never really got into any sort of indy. Despite all the improvements and the much better arena, this still looks so small time. I hate that ICW like angle too with the entrance behind the ring. Unless it's MSG, that's a no-no.

I'm not judging the show or the company until I've had a chance to sit and watch it but I think it does really undermine them when it's still so dark and dingy. A small, packed, well-lit venue would do wonders for them IMO.

It was violent, but it wasn't just gorey, garbage for the sake of it violence. Most of it played into the storylines and was quite clever in certain spots.

I'd also say that the crowd were definitely in to it, nobody trying to hijack the show when bored as I've seen with WWE all too frequently. I don't think they have the ability to draw big venues at the moment anyway. If it's this place or Orlando they are better off in here. Seen the next PPV is in NYC and they have tapings in Vegas in November.

  2. Just finished Square Go after fighting my way through the last few Friday Night Fight Club episodes. I wish they would change the location of those shows because the crowds are gash; they barely react to anything and when they do it's to cheer the heels. Makes the shows a slog to get through at times. Case in point; Kenny Williams and BT Gunn had a belter of a match at the last taping yet the crowd couldn't give two fucks. It's all the negatives of the Attitude Era; fucking silence no matter what is going on unless some outrageous angle is happening. Whiplash and Jester killed each other at one of the first tapings to the sound of crickets. Tape these shows elsewhere as that crowd is useless.

    Anyway, quick thoughts on Square Go;

    - Carmel/Thompson went a bit too long. If you chopped off five minutes it would of been much better. Good stuff though.

    - Lionheart is so bland that it hurts.

    - Renfrew/Grado was great in a Punk/Cena kind of way. The crowd was electric. Apparently there were members of the crowd getting into a scuffle during it?

-The rumble was great. However there were some spots where they just stood around doing jackshit like they had nothing planned and some of the guys really showed how green they were with all the botches.

Overall though, great show. Billy really needs to stop this "We're not an independant wrestling company!" bollocks though. ICW is an indy and that's nothing to be ashamed of. Being on the same stature as a PROGRESS or PWG is not a bad thing at all.

PWG is a different ballgame, but Progress? Unlike them ICW run shows across the British Isles. The only difference in Progress' favour is they have a much bigger local catchment area.
  3.

Where do ICW get the money to hire a studio to make a game for them?

£25 x 4000 people at the SECC is the answer.

Actually, I think its more than that given there were more expensive VIP tickets in additon. No idea how many VIP tickets there were however. I think they cost around £50, but I forget.

  4. So after a random tweet a few months back to Hull's Pozition Nightclub about bringing ICW to the town, it seems are still interested and they want to speak to speak to the organisers.

I know Mark Dallas has a twitter but, but how else would they go about getting in touch with the promotion?

I think Triple G Music are the promotional and administrational arm of ICW. Could contact them?

  5. This one surprised me, but it was awesome, probably my favourite. Kevin Kelly's shoot (the ex announcer in the WWF for those who have forgotten).

Agree about Bob Holly's shoot. He comes across a lot more likeable than I expected.

Another I'd recommend is D'lo Brown.

Didn't really enjoy Chyna, Rikishi or DDPs shoots. Didn't find them to be very revealing or entertaining at all. Maybe its just me.

  6. When the Outlaws pushed Funk and Foley in the dumpster off the stage on Raw was this unplanned? The commotion over it made it look like it wasn't planned, although at the same time theres the obvious thought that they hyped it to the extent to make it seem real. I mean it was a point in time when they were so desperate for viewers...

  7. Can't believe this. Devastated. One of the few pro wrestlers who I respect.I would be utterly disgusted if this was a worked angle, but wouldn't be surprised in the slightest.Wouldn't be surprised as well to see management making someone slag him off in attempt to gain some cheap heel heat.
