  1. Anyone got any interest in the Labour leadership contest?!

    Not really, no.

It doesn't really matter who get's in, it'll be the same old shit anyway.

Depends on how you choose to look at it, certain things are always going to be done by Government and change is probably only ever going to be small, unless you fancy starting a revolution. But small changes can start to push things in the right direction.

A leader can make or break a party, really quite easily, so Labour's next leader will shape their future elect-ability.

Going back to the small changes thing; there are more and more of these happening and announcements are happening all the time, lots of these will have a direct impact on people, sadly this won't always be entirely good sorts of impact at least in the short term.

Looking at the economy thing there's been a very idealogical difference there; Labour to spend and then make lighter cuts, Conservatives to really put the brakes on and make deep, deep cuts. I'm sure there's a happy medium there somewhere.

  2. This has been an absolutely dizzying evening. I had no idea what had happened until I was on my way home from work on the train this afternoon, both of London's free-evening papers carried the story and it just brought me to a halt. I stopped reading the papers and turned off my radio and didn't really know what to do next it was a difficult, don't know if that is quite the right word, thing to take on board.I got home at 6 and I've been reading this thread from the beginning since then. I started watching wrestling in the early nineties and had given up by the middle of the decade as WWE went through its cartoon era, but one Friday night I discovered WCW Nitro on TNT Europe and then the Internet came along. The cruiserweights back in 1995/1996 introduced me to a type of wrestling that I had never seen before which made me want to watch on a regular basis and I did pretty much continuously watch for the next 8/9 years. For as long as I could remember Chris Benoit had always been one of the "darlings" of "Internet" savvy fans, or "smarks" and I would have to say that I was one of them. I remember watching Wrestlemania XX and the end of the event being that kind of moment that really delivered the pay-off that wrestling shows so often fail to deliver.I haven't really watched that much wrestling for months now, but oddly I did watch the last two weeks of Raw on Saturday morning and thought on watching the draft and seeing Benoit have a reasonable match with Lashley and put him over. Then with Benoit drafted to ECW I thought that ECW might actually be worth watching and I should record it that night (in the event I forgot again).I think it is worth remembering that across the world it's very likely there are other people out there idolized by hundreds, or thousands who don't have a spotless criminal record or who aren't quite what they seem. The fact that they aren't necessarily whiter than white though should be appreciated. It is a really horrible situation though for the events that have happened to have occurred and for 3 people to have lost their lives however it happened. It is hard to fathom how someone could possibly do this, or even conceive of doing this especially to their wife or child. Though sadly it is not the first time in my experience with wrestling that this has happened, in another place there was a popular member of the community (in the US) who shared with us the joy he experienced when his girlfriend gave birth to their son. The son whose murder at an extremely young age he was convicted for and sent to prison.I dare say we will see this again in the world, tragically enough, but I really hope that we don't.

  3. Just got off the phone to Alex Shane who wishes to address the negative feedback to the announcement made about our deal with the Wrestling Channel.A FULL statement can be expected in 48 hours from Alex however he and the FWA wish to stress that the deal between the FWA and The Wrestling Channel is not designed to hold back any other UK Promotions from putting out their product but in fact the nature of the deal is that the FWA's production standards etc will be used as a benchmark for anyother UK Promotion wishing to have content made available on the Wrestling Channel.Full Details can be expected on the deal but Alex was very keen to stress that the FWA were not going to hold a monopoly over the channel in ANY way however we going to ensure that any british promotion shown on the Wrestling Channel meets or exceeds the standards that will be set by the FWA to uphold the integrity of British Wrestling. He also apologises for the confusion over the earlier press release which when written was decided that that point would get across unfortunately it happens. Thanks for your TimeFWA Online Team

Well, I am pleased to see this statement made, looking as it does to me like a backdown from the previous release.I can appreciate the application of quality production values, but I would hope TWC would do that for all of their shows and not just the British ones. What concerns me more is that the FWA appeared so out-of-touch with the potential backlash that could potentially occur on a forum filled largely with rabid FWA fans! :omg:
  4. Right newbie I dont know you and were you there?as for your second comment about 14 year old girl if your trying to be funny your not.

What? You've been here a whole month longer than me and you're calling me a noob? Oh....you're looking at post count. I believe in not saying anything unless i've got something to say. Pity your all-mouth-no-trousers ass don't feel the same, IMO.You don't know me. You can't see me. And until you can conjugate a frickin' sentence properly, you can grab on these. I wasn't attacking you, i was making a joke about Feinstein. Grow the f**k up.
Can you both simmer down or you'll both get warnings.
  5. Moorish v Scott Conway aka Grappling Girl. Scott posts Steve Lynskey's mobile number on the UKFF during the whole GWF Aftermath debacle and gets into a heated argument with Moorish via AOL-IM. Scott is subsequently banned by Moorish, showing that even though he was at the time one of the most powerful and influential men in British wrestling, his power was nothing compared to that of a UKFF moderator!

I'd have to go with this one as well following on from the Aftermath situation, before the whole thing boiled up I spoke to Scott Conway and tried to convince him that the UKFF wasn't the place he made it out to be (full of people "like" Moj, I use "like" in inverted commas because I don't see it as being true that Moj is a stereotype).I think most of us knew grapplingirl was Scott as well, then with the whole insane rambling I would have to say it was far more exciting than Hulkamania Fan who in essence is a nobody.I think Lister summed it up with the line that I don't want to approach remembering, but I hope you remember the gist of!
  6. This one's probably best aimed at sephjnr..Is there an "official" reason why they won't be promoting wrestling at the Colston Hall again, by that I mean who had made the decision, is it Bristol City Council as a result of the Colston's upcoming renovations, or is it the decision of All Star?

  7. Also:

I do agree with some of the crticism levelled at All Star in that it is rolling out the same sort of show it has done for numerous years without much new or exciting, as seph said no real way to connect with any of the wrestlers exvept those guys like Doug and Jonny who are nationally famous through FWA etc...

I can't see how you can say Doug and Jonny are nationally famous through the FWA when they work for Allstar all over the country all through the year and have been for longer than they have been for FWA. FWA on the other hand has done a handful of shows in the North in their 4 year history, and never done a show in Scotland or Northern Ireland like Allstar have.
My apologies, I did word that point very badly, didn't I? What I was attempting to say is that while it is very important to put someone "over" with how they wrestle in the ring, play on the crowd during the match to understand the character and boo/cheer as required. It also helps an awful lot to put them on the mic occassionally and explain their motivation/intentions in a feud, this I feel helps connect the fans to a wrestler in a more meaningful way, building up that bond can help lead to repeated attendence, rather than letting people get cheesed off and not come back.In other promotions wrestlers, not just people like Jonny and Doug get the opportunity to do this, but when they are wrestling for All Star they come down work the crowd, do the match and leave, almost workmanlike. It effectively isolates each match rather than stretch an event or match into something more meaningful.Does that make more sense?
  8. Well I'll come to the support of Moj as well, as until I moved I went to most of the Colston shows over the last almost two years. He doesn't only see the bad in things, he does have a great enthusiasm for the good as well. I appreciated that being in attendence and his enthusiasm and the comment added to my enjoyment of the shows. :)I do agree with some of the crticism levelled at All Star in that it is rolling out the same sort of show it has done for numerous years without much new or exciting, as seph said no real way to connect with any of the wrestlers exvept those guys like Doug and Jonny who are nationally famous through FWA etc... Of watching both TWA and All Star I enjoyed more the TWA shows that were promoted in the Colston Hall, they may not have got everything right... But there was a lot more excitement, life to it, even booking a lot of younger wrestlers, albeit green, but giving them valuable experience.
