  1. I'm now fully up to date with the second series of Eastbound and down, and it's probably now my favourite tv show from this year. It's more than filled the void left by The Imbetweeners and has actually surpassed it in terms of genuine laughs Iget from it.

This season has been absolutely brilliant, and has produced one of the funniest characters in Aaron I think i've ever seen. If you like the kind of humour that is!

You don't even need to watch the show to appreciate how funny it actually is

  2. The worst date I can remember was at the beginning of term a few years. On the Friday beforehand I had pulled a nice wee Polish lassie who was just new in Glasgow (her English was better than mine, right enough) and my best mate had coincidentally shagged her friend, also from Poland, who she stayed with.

So we agree to go on a retarded double-date on the Monday evening - they were big into Guy Ritchie films for whatever reason, so we went to see Rock N Rolla in the cinema. About 15 mins before we were due to meet them, we got off the bus and my mate whipped out a joint. I was a bit wary, but his insistent tone in "aw come on man, it's only one" was too persuasive.

The weed he had turned out to be really strong, and we stood outside waiting for them pissing ourselves laughing. They arrived: we laughed the whole time in the queue, we laughed going to find our seats, we laughed through the trailers, we HOWLED with laughter when a trailer for Wall-E came on and my one did a cutesy wee Wall-E impression, and we sat through the entire film trying not to burst out in hysterics whilst hitting each other to try and get the other to do it.

They weren't impressed, and we didn't see each other again. It wasn't a particularly bad date, but being with two stoned cabbages is probably not fun for the ladies.

Quite similar to this story, I had a free house recently and as per usual I stacked up on weed preparing to do absolutely nothing throughout the whole week. A mate of mine came over, as he usually does when I have a free gaff, and we proceeded to get extremely high whilst sinking a few beers. The plan for that night was initially for us to meet up with 2 girls we were both seeing and go out for a meal, but they instead decided to go out with their other pals. Assuming we had been fobbed off, we thought getting high was the best solution, and did just that. At the peak of our highness, my pal gets a txt from the girl he is seeing asking what we are up too, to which my mate replies he's round mine, chilling out with a couple of beers watching the football (this was during the world cup) thinking they wouldnt fancy coming round......we were wrong. They kept on hinting that they wanted to come over, and with us being both a little worse for ware we decided it would be a good idea, esspecially if we could get them on the weed (which has somewhat been a fantasy for the both of us).

After realising we were both acting pretty retarded due to the weed, and the fact our eyes we're red as hell, we casually let the girls know via txt what we'd been doing, so they didnt turn up thinking we were weird. To our suprise, the girl I was seeing didn't have a problem with it and said she'd happily join in!

By the time the girls arrived we were both pretty monged out watching the football in darkness, the stoned banter a distant memory which of course, made us lousy company. The girls were pretty much talking between themselves rather animated, whilst in stark contrast both me and my pal we're pretty much dead on our feet. After the football finished, we kind of had no choice but to engage in conversation with the girls, but found it hard to do so considering our brains were officially fried. What's more, we then decided it would be a good idea to liven ourselves up, by having a vodka redbull and more weed.

In theory it worked, both me and my mate definately did come back to live, but were now a crazy hybrid of stoned/ pissed with loads of energy and started having a great time...but it was only me and my mate Jack who were finding things funny. Family guy came on tv and I think that was the final straw for the girls who had attempted to cuddle up to both of us, but we were too busy laughing at Family guy and making weird noises to one another.

We still occasionally see the girls out now...but that night definately set us back!

  3. Saw Due Date yesterday, and as previously mentioned in here, not quite as funny as the Hangover but is still a really fun movie! The 2 lead actors pretty much make the film what it is, and theres a few nice cameo's too! Robert Downy Jr is great as foil for Zach Galafinikas (sp) character (essentailly a camper version of Alan from the Hangover), and they have great chemistry on screen together.

"What are you a girl or something?" had myself and my mates I was with in stitches for ages and was a lot funnier than it really should have been, but the delivery was brilliant.

  4. Just got back from Vegas so had plenty of films to watch on the way there and back.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid- I had seen the trailer for this over here in the UK and thought it looked quite quirky, but knew it wouldnt be a film my mates would be willing to part money with to see. As it happens, I was probably right NOT to suggest to my mates that we see it, not because it's a bad film by any means, but it's targeted towards pre teens and thus deals with issues 11-12 year olds go through. As it happens, it actually had it's moments where it was quite funny and the 2 main characters are very good in their seperate roles. The main protagonist can be a bit of a dick at times, but you always seem to be rooting for him.

Shrek 4- I actually thought it was really good! I wasn't expecting anything at all but I'm a sucker for films that deal with alternate realities with the same characters and such. It's nothing special by any means and is totally outclassed by Toy Story 3, but is a decent installment in the Shrek series and is better than the 3rd film atleast!

Kick ass- Absolutely loved it! Really liked the fact that despite being an American film, there was a heavy influx of British actors. Even Tamer Hassan gets a cheeky cameo as a hitman! Can't really say any more that no doubt already been said about this film, but it's stylish, gory, funny, entertaining and just a great film overall!

Hot Tub Time Machine- I've seen it before but couldn't resist giving it another watch. I personally really like it! It never takes itself too seriously and is a very enjoyable film with some genuinely funny parts. Harshly critisied in my books.

  5. On the subject or premonition, I seem to always get random quotes or songs in my head from TV shows and especially films and they'll always turn up on TV later that very same day. Now, one could put this down to coincidence, but id be lying if I said this WASN'T a regular occurrence! This has been happening to me for years, and whilst it's only limited to certain TV episodes or films i've already seen, it's still pretty freaky when it happens. For the record I never read the TV listings or anything like that as I don't actually watch that much TV!

  6. Training Day- After my last posting in this thread in which I had been in a bit of a rut, I mentioned that this film was next on my "watch list" and was told I'd enjoy it................I did....very much so infact! I've never really understood all the Denzel Washington hype but that's only because I can probably count on one hand the movies i've seen staring him, but he was absolutely awesome in this film. Some very clever twists and turns in the plot that never over complicated things. Simple but clever film with a decent showing from Ethan Hawke, and enjoyable performance from Denzel Washington. I can even over look the needless roles for Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg as Eva Mendes gets her norks and rat out! 8/10

The Firm (Nick Love Version)- I haven't seen the original despite having wanted to for quite a while, so I'm not sure how the two compare. Was nice to see a Nick Love film that didn't feature his usual cronies, although the young lad who plays Dom had a small role in Football Factories. Overall I thought it slightly missed the mark. There's no denying Nick Love has a phenomenal eye for detail when it comes to the 80's, and that's probably the best thing about the film. I was interested to hear that the actor playing Bex had never acted before, so with that in mind, it was a pretty solid showing from him. The film doesn't focus on the football violence as much as Football Factories and is more of a "coming of age" story. There are 1 or 2 scenes I really liked, which strangely both involve the young Dom being humiliated/ threatened in public by his elders. The one thing that bothered me is that, despite Nick Love wanting to create a family vibe about "The Firm" in the film, a lot of the secondary characters are given little to nothing to do or say, meaning you essentially don't give a shit about them. Nowhere near as bad as The Outlaw, but i'm a little concerned that Nick Love has decided to take elements from arguably his 2 most successful films (Football Violence/ The 80's) and combined them to make this one....me thinks he's running out of ideas! 6/10

Adventureland- Not to be confused with Zombieland, despite both staring Jesse Eisenberg, this is another coming of age story/ romance also set in the 80's that see's Jesse's character having to work a summertime job in the Adventureland themepark for college funds. I absolutely loved it! I saw the trailer online which pretty much leads you to believe the film is going to be like Superbad (It's actually made by the same director...and features Bill Hader), but it's nothing like it. Don't get me wrong, it does have it's funny moments, but the film is more about the relationship between Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewarts characters. The film also features Ryan Reynolds who actually plays a straight role for a change, and whilst he doesn't feature as much as you'd think, he is important to the film. On the subject of Kristen Stewart, something about her in this film had me warming to her and I actually now find her quite attractive after initially disliking her purely because of the Twilight connection. Jesse Eisenberg is very Michael Cera-esque in his delivery, but not to the point that I felt he was a low rate version of him. He's not supposed to be a geek in Adventureland, he's intelligent but smokes pot, and isn't exactly awkward around girls either. Anyway for anybody that hasn't heard or seen this film, give it a go because it's somewhat of a sleeper hit! 8/10

  7. I'm on somewhat of a bad run at the moment in terms of the quality of films i've watched as of late:

Youth In Revolt- Probably the best of a bad bunch. Michael Cera plays his usual "geeky" character which, in fairness he at least does very well. Considering the last film I saw at the cinema was "The Hangover" I probably set my expectations a bit too high for this film. It had a few laughs, but nothing laugh out loud worthy, and the story is solid and coherent for the most part, although there were a few scenes that were animated or in stop motion for seemingly no reason what so ever. Considering it also starred Zach Galaf....Alan from the Hangover, I was expecting it to be a bit funnier and for him to have a more prominent role, but the film was less like the Hangover and more like Juno.

Green Street 2- My Dad said he'd attempted to watch this on TV and couldn't believe how terrible it was. Id previously been told by an ex work colleague that the film was pretty good so thought i'd give it a go late one night seeings as it was on tele. My God what an abortion of a film! Say what you want about the first Green Street movie, but it's a million miles better than this heap of crap. I don't even want to go into detail and spend time on reviewing this film, but believe me it's not worth watching, even if your bored. The only redeeming qualities this film has is that the actress playing the head screw in the prison does a good job of being a complete bitch, and some of the violence is pretty grim if your into that type of thing. The ending is laughable, and whilst the first film had some questionable cockney accents, this one is even worse!! AVOID!

Terminator Salvation- It just didn't hold my attention! I think the main problem was that I was well aware of one of the "twists" having previously read about in in another movie thread here, so the surprise factor was immediately ruined. What was the point in the girl who didn't speak? Was there something I missed cos there seemed to be no valid reason for her being there what so ever. The special effects were pretty cool but as we all know, that's not what makes a decent film these days. I would probably give it another go just to see if I'm being a bit too harsh on it, but as it stands now, I personally thought it was only slightly better than Terminator 3!!

Observe and Report- Not terrible...just not THAT funny and seems a bit rushed. The ending where everything is wrapped up in a neat bow is literally done in about 5 minutes. And on a side note, what the hell has happened to Ray Liotta? Why does he feel the need to be doing comedies now? (he's also in Youth In revolt). I can only assume he thinks that by being in films with the likes of Michael Cera and Seth Rogan who are quite popular these days, that it may lead to better roles for him?? Also, I think i'm starting to develop a bit of a thing for Anna Faris, who is one of the saving graces in this film. Like I said, it's not terrible and there are some awkward moments that will generate a giggle, but I don't think id be able to watch it again.

Next up for me is Training Day (I recently took advantage of Tesco's selling DVD's for

  8. Step Brothers is amazing. The sleep walking sequences might be the hardest I've laughed, ever.

Seconded. That scene had a large group of us rolling around for at least 5 minutes meaning we missed a a few jokes when first released at the cinema. For some reason it was Will Farell saying "Heyyy...Hiii Im Darrell" that tickled us all. The delivery was hysterical!

  9. Just ordered Doghouse and Awaydays on dvd from play. Im more than aware that Doghouse is meant to be a bit pants, but im a massive fan of Steven Graham, who's also in Awaydays, which other than that, I know nothing about. Oh, and thats it's about football hooligans.

Anybody seen them and know what im in for?

For the record, if anybody cares, Both are utter SHIT!

Stephen Graham, hang your head in shame!

    Edit:

Thought I may aswell expand on my previous statement as im bored during lunch.

Doghouse: On paper, and even from the trailer looked to have a decent cast and fun story. As already mentioned Im a big fan of Stephen Grahams work, and also like Noel Clarke. As much as he is universally hated on here, I also dont mind Danny Dyer, as, despite being limited, he is atleast half decent at what he does. It's safe to say that this film misses the mark on all accounts, It's not funny, it's not gory, and it's just not very good. Theres little to no character development, and it doesnt even matter when any of them die or get hurt anyway because your not given reason to care. The whole film just felt very rushed, which is a shame as it has enough talent to at the very least be a decent film to watch with your mates whilst pissed/stoned. I watched it after a few bevvies and found myself nodding off halfway through and havent even bothered to re-watch to see if i missed anything...as I quite frankley dont care. The zombirds look pretty cool I guess, but thats perhaps the only saving grace.

To summarise how dumb and rushed this film was, one character explains that if the zombirds cant see you, they forget your there......brilliant.

Awaydays: Low budget bromance/ footy hooligan film set in the late 70's adapted from a novel. I wont go into too much detail about the film as it quite frankley doesnt deserve it. Suffers from serious lack of character development, and fails because, like Doghouse, you dont really give a shit what happens to any of the characters. The scouse accents at times are hard to understand, and it just seems like the director wanted to pimp out the Joy division filled soundtrack. The film thinks it's more dramatic than it is, and whilst im sure the novel probably explains everything a lot better, Awaydays is a prime example of a film failing to capture the point of the book. Somewhere in this film, is a good story that im sure comes off better in the novel, which I now want to buy as I dont for one second beleive it will be as bad as this flick. Stephen Graham, the only real "name" actor in this film, is criminally wasted, and Im quite shocked he agreed to be a part of it.

  11. Just completed Season 4 of Ideal staring Johnny Vegas, and i'm officially hooked!

Bar Judith (who has become increasingly annoying and lost all of her appeal) all the characters have evolved and are absolutely brilliant. So many twists and turns and the mix of humour and surreal situations is perfect. Id be here all day explaining the simutanious storylines involving various characters, but all you need to know is that they all intertwine with one another make for some awesome viewing.

Season 4 left on somewhat of a cliffhanger, and I just had to find out what the outcome of it was so checked on IMDB to check if a certain somebody was still alive. Cannot wait to watch series 5!!

For my money, Psycho Paul is the best character on the show by a country mile, closely followed by serial Man-a-nizer Brian (who's also the director Graham Duff) who plays his part brilliantly.

Plus theres even a one off appearance of Troy early doors!

Watch this show, you wont be dissapointed.

  12. Wasting Away: Low budget Zombie comedy movie released sometime in 2007 on the film Festival scene but is only just being promoted on dvd here now. I saw an ad for it in the London Lite and the poster was littered with positive comments (which I know doesnt always mean much) but I thought id give it a go anyway incase it was a gem.

For those who havent heard of this film before, the story is quite unique as far as Zombie flicks go. Bassically 4 teenagers unknowingly consume a discarded military substanced designed to create 'Super Soldiers' but instead turns people into Zombies. The unique twist is that the teens arent actually aware they are zombies, and after meeting another "zombie" on their travels who is ex military, they believe that they are super soldiers and it's the rest of the world who are "infected". The premise itself leads to some amusing moments and perspectives. The zombie teens see the rest of the world in fast motion and theres also some amusing scenes in which, whilst shown from the teenagers normal perspective, them engaging in zombie like behaviour like eating brains and super human strength.

Theres some nice touches with how the film itself is shot, with the majority of the film being shot in normal colour, but scenes in which the teenagers are seen as Zombies is all in black and white.

Overall, the film is what it is, a low budget zombie comedy, not aimed to please the masses. The film itself drags on a bit towards the end, without the film actually being that long, and whilst there are some funny moments, I didnt often find myself laughing really hard at anything, more a few chuckles here and there.

The acting itself is reasonable for a film of it's type, and one of the lead actors is the spitting image of Freddy Prince Jr, but dont let that put you off, he's actually not quite as bad an actor! The lead females are hot, and whilst the characters themselves are very paint by numbers (Cocky stilfer-esque popular guy, Timid yet still handsome friend of popular guy who has a crush on longtime female friend, innocent virginal blonde girl who is object of timid guys affection, and sassy intelligent brunette who used to go out with popular dude) but arent offensive in any way.

Id reccomend it for atleast 1 viewing. It's by no means a bad film, but is in no way, shape or form in the same league as Sean of the Dead. With Zombieland out in cinemas now, if your in the mood for more Zombie comedies, it's deffo worth a watch!

  13. Seems like a good time to share stories about this absolute moron of a bitch I work with. The woman in question is easily in her late 30's early 40's, single, and as far as i know has no boyfriend. She also lives on her own, and has worked at my company for quite a while, which makes her think shes above those who are newer to the company when in fact she isnt and has no stroke whatsoever. Fair play to her, she is a good salesperson and is amongst the top of the shop in terms of figures all the time, which again probably add's to why she thinks she's king shit. To summarise some of her personality traits, my theory is she was a bit of a loaner in her youth, and now she's good at her job, has livened herself up a bit, but still shows elements of her geeky past and desperate attempts to be accepted.

Like I said, she's in her 40's yet still wants to be seen as 'in the know' with the youth of today. Thats not a problem as such, but it's the way she is so vocal in announcing she knows who Chipmunk, Tinchey Strider and Jay Z are that make her so infuriating. I forgot to mention, she is constantly bumming/ sucking up to the black guys on our team, and often tries to engage in conversations about music with them. However, whats so hilarious is that she does herslef no favours by saying things like "Chipmunk is a superstar" and shit like that, which as you can imagine makes her look like a total prat, yet everybody seems polite enough not to pull her up on it....either that or they are simply humouring her!

She also has direct control to the radio which is right behind her...this means her stations are ALWAYS on...and yes they are always stations like KISS fm and Force 1 I think it is? It's little things like the other day when she refused to change the station as requested because Tinchey Strider was hosting the show for an hour, then announcing loudy "Go on Tinchey you do your thing" whenever he was on. Again, just to remind everybody, this is essentially a 40 year old spinster saying this.

These annoyances bassically started where I work when 2 teams were fused into 1 which isnt a massive problem as the other guys on the team are cool. For some reason they mixed up the seating plan on the table we sit at, so now the 2 teams are evenly seperated around, to create a better atmosphere. Guess who is the only person who feels isolated, doesnt like her seat, and is always causing a stir regarding it? Thats right, her. Now if I was sat ANYWHERE else on the table, im sure she wouldnt annoy me so much, however as it happens I'm sat next to somebody who works on her catagory of the publication. I realise the departments both need to communicate with each other in regards to work which is fine, but this bitch is CONSTANTLY up in my space, talking as loud as she can to her team mate about trannies and hookers (she works on the adult section) whilst im on the phone to customers. I cant tell you how many potential deals i've lost out on because clients have overheard her fog horn like mouth saying trannies as loud as she can whilst I am trying to convince them to use my company for their advertising!!!

As well as this, and going back slightly to her taste in music, when the whole Kanye West/ Taylor Swift shit happened, she was a right bellend about that too. She was chatting to one of the other guys about the incident and was showing a blatant bias towards Kanye in order to stay on the good side of the black guys. By the way she fancies herself as one of those "fight the machine, freedom of speech" women too, and was bassically using that as an excuse for his behaviour, as well as saying "who is Taylor Swift anyway, nobody cares". This is just about when I had to interveen as not only do I dislike Kanye and his constant playing up to get attention, but her attempt at continuing to defend Kanye when even the black kids were saying he was a "prick" was enough to wind me up further. I wont go into details of what was said but i bassically made the point that it was a twatish thing to do, regardless of who was on stage, and that Kanye was an attention seeking whore who deserved all the backlash he got from this incident. She questioned why Kanye was an attention whore asking "where did you get that from?" before muttering under her breath that i probably hated him because he was black..............right that must be it.

Plus she's a Chelsea fan, nothing more needs to be said.

  14. Invested in all 3 series of Ideal staring Johnny Vegas last week. Have just about finished series 1, and it's not too bad!. Some unique characters to say the least, and a decent level of humour mixed with some surreal situations makes it an easy watch. Nothing groundbreaking, and personally i enjoyed Mtv's Stoner Comedy series "Top Buzzer" alot more, but by no means is it shit.

Some of the characters are quite annoying however. Esspecially the "Im on Probation" fella. Was quite funny at first, but very repetitive. Got to say though im loving the characters "Craig" and "Cartoonhead" and hope their individual storylines head somewhere!

    Anybody else a fan?

  15. Pete Doherty- Amazingly nice guy! Met him when he was invited as a special guest to a QPR game a few seasons ago, and luckily for me it was my uncle who arranged for him to come down so I was able to tag along when he met him. Signed my programme and had a brief chat about a couple of his songs I was into at that time. He was genuinely excited for the game! Then News of the World got wind he was there (It was meant to be a low profile thing) so he left at half time to avoid being bothered. Next day News of the World say he was thrown out for drug abuse. Cunts.

Noel Gallagher- Again at QPR and again due to my Uncle. He was in one of the boxes after we'd just beaten Man City and I remember everybody winding me up saying id come back with the pen shoved up my nose. Noel was a lovely guy and I still have the picture of him and me on my shelf to this day. His wife at the time asked me how old I was, I said 10 and she claimed I looked younger so I told her to shut up...probably not the best thing to do before asking Noel for an autograph but luckily he laughed! Nicole Appleton is her name I think?

Stan Bowles, Trever Sinclair, John Spencer. Dennis Wise, Les Ferdinand, Ray Wilkins, Ian Holloway, Andy Grey (of "take a bow" fame), Richard Keyes, Andy Impey, Danny Dichio, Darren Peacock and a few more QPR players were all really nice and friendly to me when I was a mascot at QPR.

Nicest Footballers i've ever met though were Simon Barker and Gavin Peacock. When I was younger, due to my uncles position as Sales and Marketing director at QPR, we were able to go into the players bar with all the WAGS and family before and after the games. Simon Barker ALWAYS made an effort to talk to me and my Nan and I always got a handshake off him anytime he saw me. He was actually always asking questions about my Karate as I did it at the time.

I was lucky enough to be taken into the dressing room and even onto the pitch by Gavin Peacock at QPR too. Long story short, my dad works for a plush hotel in London and made sure when Mr Peacock stayed there, he had 5 star treatment, so in return he asked if he could do anything for my dad or me. The result was me being taken onto the pitch and in the dressing room where I met all the players, most of who at the time were actually quite moody although I remember Chris Kiwomya offering me some of his mars bar. I actually think Peter Crouch may have been there too? Anyway Gavin was a superstar that day and treated me really well. Top top top guy! Good player too!

Have also shaken hands with Naomi Campbell, again at QPR.

The only celeb who was a bit of a cock was Jeff Brazier. Even then he wasnt a cunt to me, just a bit dopey. I used to go to Next Generation gym in Gidea Park and apparentley so did he. I was on a weights stool doing my thing when Jeff walks over and asks if he can use it. The thing is there was an identical bench a mere foot away that was being unused....

He then proceeded to try and get free membership in return for his endorsement, failing to recognise that Gary Liniker and Steve Redgrave were already part of the gym so they really didnt need him at all.

Jodie Marsh was actually a very friendly lady too when I literally bumped into her in Romford, tiny girl!

Just remembered I met Jermaine Defoe in Nandos in Romford too when he was dating David Beckhams sister.

I've also stood next to William Hague at the airport, Paul Konchesky at a bar, Freddy Sears in Lakeside and seen Dean Ashton walk around Romford in his West Ham training gear...obviously trying to go unnoticed.

EDIT: A couple more I had forgotten.

East 17: Was doing my work experience at a music studio in Romford called Music Tek, and East 17 were trying to make a comeback, and had rehearsal time in 1 of the studios. I prepared their studio room for them, cleaning it out and filling it with beers and what not and passed Brian Harvey on the way out of the room. Didnt really have any contact with him but he was parading about like a moody cunt for the duration of the time he was there.

Keith Gillespie: Was randomly in Cosmo (Indian and Chinese buffet) in Romford. Was on loan at Charlton at the time I think, which still makes it odd he was in Romford of all places. Again didnt talk to him and probably wouldnt have recognised him had my mate not pointed it out.

Also in Spain about 4 years ago I remember being absolutely pissed up in this random bar with a mate on our holiday. Met some extremely random people of all different ages and nationalities. Got into an argument with some fat bint who accused my gold chain (Chavy I know) of being fake when i knew for a fact it was real as my mum and dad bought it at an antiques fair! Anyway I ended up calling her a dinosaur due to not wanting to swear and being rather pissed and she subsequentley got the hump and stormed off. I was later introduced to a lady who's first words were "Dinosaur...LOVE IT" and proceeded to buy me a drink. I didnt have a clue who she was until after she'd left when somebody told me she was off the tv show VICAR OF DIBLEY. I think her characters name was Alice or something??? Lovely lady, very drunk but really nice girl. Was on hugging terms by the time she left too ha!

  16. Transformers 2007- Just what you'd expect from a film directed by Michael Bay to be honest. Stunning visuals which alone make this film worth watching. For me the Transformers themselves at times, esspecially during the fight scenes looked a bit...busy if you will. No real bad performences, and no really spectacular ones either. Shia Labeuf was rather enjoyable in his role and as for Megan Fox....damn those eyes!

Devils Rejects- You can tell Rom Zombie loves his horror movies (a fact i know is true based on his CRIB episode), and it's also clear he thinks he knows how to make a good horror film. I personally liked it and thought of it as a decent slasher/ road movie with all the characters being unique and interesting in some way or other. Some of the scenes on paper were brutal, but not brutal to watch. For instance the motel room scene where Otis gets the older lady to strip down was very similar to a scene in Funny Games, that, in my mind, was a lot more effective as it didnt actually show you anything and had no score in the background. Mrs Moon Zombie is also very sexy in a nutjob kinda way in this film!

Half Baked- Watched this before while stoned and didnt see what all the fuss was about. Maybe it's because i didnt watch it straight after anchorman this time, but after getting stoned and watching it again, it's now my favourite stoner movie of all time! Was just such an awesome stoner flick! The Brian character for me is one of the best stoner characters ever! Also the guy playing Kenny in jail was such a funny OTT performence but actually had me thinking that deep down, id probably be the same if it happened to me!!

  17. Just watched Back to the Future 1,2+3. Never seen them before and a mate lent me the DVD. Thought they were pretty awesome films as I'm a big fan of 80's pop culture.

SNAP! Bought the trilogy on dvd during the sale and spent all of today completing it.

Very enjoyable with the first film still being the best of the bunch in my eyes, although 2 runs it pretty close!

  18. The Lister curse strikes again. Natural Born Sellers has been moved out of prime time. Officially it's because of poor ratings, though I suspect it may be specifically down to a lack of advertisers (last week's episode had one break with only one ad). I guess that makes sense as watching the show hardly leaves in the mood to listen to sales pitches.

It may be out of primetime but what a show it was last week. Scott being the cockiest man alive and crashing back to earth with a bang. As well as that dark haired bint (really can't remember her name) seemingly wanting to whore her way to the top. SImply great stuff from start to finish.

Just thought id quickly reply to this as i actually used to work for Scott English for 118Trades. I can actually confirm that he is indeed that much of a cocky character but at the same time i felt he made Natural Born Sellers what it was. As soon as he left, my interest in the show quickly went sour. Who actually won in the end?

Rather brilliantly it was Gavin. He came in the bottom two every week but survived, either because people liked him and wanted to keep him, or in later weeks because they knew he was less of a threat to win. He then pulled off the win in the final (which was selling shares in a racehorse for charity) by practically begging and wound up selling sponsorship on a terminally ill child's wheelchair.

Jesus! I'm glad i didn't watch till the end then as that would have wound me up big time. I was calling for him to get the boot after week 1!

Was only fun when Scott English was in the show to be honest. The banter between him and all of his ex employee's on Facebook was a sight to behold as it was clear nobody wanted him to win! A real life man you love to hate!

Anyway the show I am watching is Kenny Vs Spenny on youtube. It's juvenile and has a very simple concept each episode such as "who can keep a dump in their pants the longest?" and will focus around the two different characters dealing with each situation.

Like I said it's extremely juvenile and very much in the Jackass/Dirty Sanchez/ Viva La Bam mould. However the difference is that everything is done for a reason as the loser faces some bizare kind of humiliation at the end of each episode. The laughs mostly happen when the "straight man" Spenny, is throwing his toys out of the pram due to Kenny's underhanded tactics.

Some of Kenny's swerves to win the competition are utterly brilliant too!

    Key Episodes for me are:

Who is the better pro wrestler? Featuring Tyson Dux and Iron Sheik.

Who can hold a dump in their pants the longest?

    Who can bone more women?

Who can piss off the most people?

Who can imitate the other guy better?

Who can blow the biggest fart?

If it sounds like your kind of thing, then give it a go and im sure you'll enjoy. On a related note, Im 100% sure their was a UK version of this on late night Sky 1 a few years back but i can find no evidence of it existing. Does anybody else happen to remember at all?

  20. Saw Adulthood the other day after finding out my local VUE was no longer showing Harold and Kumar 2 .WOW is all I can say! what a follow up to Kidulthood. Fantastic film and highly recommend It to anybody who has seen Kidulthood and enjoyed it. The film basically follows on from the previous film 6 years on, when Sam is released from jail after serving his time. All the other characters are revisited and its great to see how they have all moved on with their lives.Im not a great reviewer so wont go into massive detail but i loved everything about this film. Great plot, great acting, fantastic cinematography and a decent score to fit the film. Interesting characters that you actually care about come the end of the film, and the ending itself was well done. Plenty of laugh out loud moments too!I was looking forward to seeing Harold and Kumar but Im glad now i saw this instead!Oh and for those of you who may be worried about the fact that Danny Dyer is involved in the project, have no fears, he is in it for a total of 5-10 minutes.

  21. So as of late i've been a bit addicted at buying cheap dvd's from play.com which is bad for my wallet as it all adds up, but will mean i'm contributing more in here i suppose!Watched series 1+2 of Spaced- Funny tv show that, as far as i know went under the radar of all of my friends and most prople i know to be honest. For those who dont know, it stars Nick Frost and Simon Pegg, and was directed by Edgar Wright, all pre Shaun of the Dead of course. The series is based around characters Daisy and Tim pretending to be a couple so that they can rent a flat together, keeping it a secret from their landlady Marsha, although this isnt the basis for the whole series, just the concept. Very off the wall and at time seems like a real life version of Family guy in the way there are random flashbacks and such regarding things that have no bearing to the plot, but these are few and far between. Quirky characters and some great jokes in there too along with many references to films like Star Wars, Human Traffic and Jurrasic Park. The Invisi-gun-battle moment had me rolling on the floor laughing, as did Dwayne Benzy saying "why dont you piss off back to Romford where you belong" for obvious reasons. I miss it, although wouldnt want a new series as they tied up everything well in the last episode. 8/10Rush Hour- I remember loving this film when I was younger so at 3.99 or whatever on Play.com I thought I couldnt possibly say no. Alot of fun, nothing groundbreaking and sure as hell wont win any awards, but is exactly what you want for a no brainer action movie. I read on IMDB trivia that Chris Tucker improvises all of his lines near enough, and knowing that little nugget of info and watching it again, you can really tell...still not sure if its a good thing or a bad thing. Good fight sequences and a solid enough plot for what it is. 7/10Jurrasic Park- Probably one of my favourite films ever. What gained my attention watching it in 2008 is how well the special effects and CGI, IMO have stood the test of time. Sure they arent AS polished as modern times but seeings as it was made in 1993, its amazing how fantastic all the dinosaurs look. I absolutely love the plot and even the whole premise as to how they were able to bring the dinosaurs back to life in the first place i think is awesome as it actually seems plausable. The Raptors for me, still remain as one of the most badass villains in any film made to this date and truley make you feel glad that its not you thats being hunted by them. The ending with the T-rex still has me marking out now like i did when i first watched the film in the cinema. I remember watching it with my mum and dad and being convinced that the T-rex was the hero in the story and having them explain to me that it was simply it's nature to attack the Raptors. But fuck that and fuck them, T-rex saved the day and you all know it! 8/10.

  22. Romford, I don't think anyone has ever put as much thought into Dodgeball as you have.

Well if they did they'd realise that the films message is a shit one! Be lazy, do nothing, and win it all...even the girl! Work hard, apply yourself and attemp to run a successfull business seriously and you get shat on.I used to like the film too...
  23. Pan's Labrynth- Awesome film, if you can bare subtitles. Maybe a LITTLE overrated as it isnt anything groundbreaking, still still very enjoyable. Awsome costume designs too, aswell as the actress playing Ofelia being awesome in her role. The Captain was dislikable and harsh- Just what a bad guy should be yet is rarely done so well! 8/10Rise of the Foot Soldier- I liked it. Didnt get good reviews but id happily watch it again and again. Not as light hearted as Lock Stock/ Snatch/ Football Factory...but then again it doesnt pretend to be. Based on the famous Range Rover murders in Essex for those of you not aware and focuses around Carlton Leach. Some bits did annoy me, like how he went ape shit on his 2nd wife in 1 scene due to roids, and yet in the next scene she's still there as if nothing happened. None of the characters are particuarly likeable although towards the end Carlton Leach (whilst also becoming more of a bit part character) does seem to settle down and develop a consience and stays out of all the shennanigans. Brutal in parts too which is just what i expect from a film like this. 7/10Dodgeball- Yes we've probably all seen it, yes its funny for what it is with Rop Torn being esspecially funny as Patches O'hoolahan. However, Something about the ending of this film doesnt sit right with me. Yes White Goodman (Ben stiller) is the bad guy, who we are not supposed to like as he's vain, he's stupid, he's arrogant, he lashes out on females, but the ending still has be feeling sorry for him.The reason is, he's a hard worker. He's put in a lot of effort to get his body and to get into shape (which we see at the start of the film where he is 600 pounds) and has also (despite an inheritance from his Grandad) worked from the ground up to make Globo Gym what it is today. On the other hand, Vince Vaughn's character, Peter Le'fleur, is lazy, out of shape, and puts no effort into anything. Yet at the end of the film we are expected to be happy for him because he's won Globo Gym and are supposed to be happy that he's fired White Goodman, whos actually worked hard for what he has? Also baring in mind that Peter Le'fleur had actually sold Average Joes to White Goodman, fair and square for 100k. He then stupidly uses it to bet on his team to win against the far supiror Globo Gym team after, that same night saying they had no chance of defeating them. If these aren't the actions of a reckless, selfish man then i dont know what is. Lucky for him, it pays off.If Average Joes Gym was struggling against the big bad Globo Gym because of under handed tactics then fine, i can accept that. But Average Joes gym, was a shit hole with out of date machines, and was poorly run by Peter Le'fleur. In contrast, Globo Gym is high tech, providing an excellent service, and is trendy and attractive in it's appearance whilst also, playing by the book in the tournament WITHOUT added help from an ex pro to coach them. The loss of the Dodgeball tournament also see's White Goodman go into meltdown and pile on the weight he worked so hard to lose.So who is meant to be the good and bad guy here???? The film itself 6/10. The logic for the film 2/10.Evil Woman/ Saving Silverman- Great little cult comedy with Jason Biggs, Amanda Peet and Jack Black among others (inc Neil Diamond!). Made when Jack Black was still funny! Some great one liners and a nice little story that i saw myself relating too after also losing a good friend to an evil bitch who wanted to control his life. 7/10Guy X- Also starring Jason Biggs. Thought it was a comedy... it wasnt... it was just confussing! Biggs is terribly miss cast and the whole film itself is kind of a mess.Had they kept the story simple (Biggs is accidentally sent to Greenland as a Sergent or something under the name of Patterson, but cant prove thats not his real name) and kept it as a light hearted comedy, then great. Instead they try and go all thriller, and drama on us and it fails. The character Genseng was quite funny however, calling everthing and everybody a "piece of shit". 4/10The Pick of Destiny- Missed the start and finish so wont give it a rating. All i will say is it did enough to make me want to see the whole thing. Jack Black didnt actually come off as annoying from what i did see of the film and appeared to be showing signs of the old school Jack Black that made him popular in the first place. Kyle Gass is always funny, and Tenacious D themselves are always good for a chuckle ( if thats your kind of humour, which it is mine). Mixed in with some funny music numbers and ludacris plot with a sprinkle of cameos in frame and you have, what seemed to me anyway, to be a decent "Stoner" comedy. The scene i saw up too where Jack Black had eaten "shrooms" was on the floor funny for myself! Esspecially where he thinks he's in the strawberry river or something, only for him to actually be in a rapid river had me cracking up for a while!Still got This is England, Apocolypto, and Essex Boys to watch yet. Aswell of course as the Pick of Destiny once it arrives from Play.com!
