  1. Hi everyone, I wanted to announce my new book, The Women of WrestleMania

    https://amzn.to/3nvCpJj

A look at the history of WWE’s WrestleMania, with a focus on how women have been treated over the years, embracing both the good times and the bad times, and tracking the progress that has gradually been made to see women main event the biggest wrestling show in the world.

Includes analysis of every single show in chronological order to identify themes, trends and issues faced over time, as well as a statistical breakdown of eras.

Plus a look at the history of what it meant to be a Diva, profiles on the top stars of each era, and an attempt to define who is Ms. WrestleMania.

A minimum of 25% of all profits from this book will be donated to women’s charities.

Praise for my first book Women Love Wrestling:

"Very well written, I am really enjoying it, I have been so impressed by the writers and their passion for the subject” – Wrestling legend and bestselling author Mick Foley

“Expert contributions that unexpectedly and thoroughly cover a treasure trove of topics. This reader was euphoric over the amount of subject matter jam-packed into this important and long overdue collection” – SlamWrestling.net

“A compendium of some of the most passionate, varied and informed authors unified under the goal of giving a platform to voices that often are overlooked” – Pro Wrestling Torch

  2. Do you like the idea of your photos being used in a wrestling book? If so please read on.

Hi, I'm Jason and I'm set to publish my 2nd wrestling book 'The Women of WrestleMania' on 1st March 2022. With the book at the editing stage I am looking for help from fellow fans to source photographs that I could include in the book, giving credit to the photographers.

I am looking for photos of:
    - Women wrestling at WrestleMania (from 1 to 37)
    - that could be used to for some profiles chapters, so could just be from WrestleCons etc
    - Crowd shots that show the scale of the events e.g. from your seat, showing the ring and 1000s of people

I am donating a minimum of 25% of all profits to RAINN and Women's Aid. You can look me up and see my other books and work (don't want this to come across as a plug).

If you would like to help please message me or add a comment. Thanks all.

My partner's just finished Unladylike: A Grrrl's Guide To Wrestling by Heather Bandenberg and they've been raving about it all day. It's about one of the women who went through Lucha Britannia, and from what little I've read so far it's genuinely funny and much better written than your average wrestling book, probably owing to the author also being a journalist for The Guardian. I'm gonna give it a read a write a proper review, but if anyone's looking for a modern britwres book, or just a women's wrestling book since those a pretty thin on the ground, then it's worth a look.

I also picked up A Fan's Perspective by Oliver Newman for ego and nostalgia reasons. While it's nice to have some of my matches and shows reviewed in book form, the word 'book' is doing a lot of heavy lifting. It's more like a run-on collection of mySpace blogs featuring the results from a whole bunch of britwres shows in the early mid-2000's, mostly from around the West Midlands. There's not so much reviews, just some basic descriptions of stuff that happened, if anyone's read any of Oli's stuff you know what I'm talking about. Other than the reason I bought it I'm not quite sure who it's for or who would want it, but it exists.

Plus 1 for Heather. She is a great writer and Mick Foley has posted reviews on his Facebook page endorsing it.

A friend has recommended the great site to me to check out books on old school wrestling from Crowbar. I know a few have mentioned their books but I also wanted to mention a lot of them can be bought on Kindle at a good price.

For example 'Is That Wrestling Fake?' is $20 on Crowbar plus shipping, its £54 on Amazon in paperback and £7 on Kindle.

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/That-Wrestling-Fake-Ivan-Koloff-ebook/dp/B00JIAJIVU/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=Is+That+Wrestling+Fake%3F&qid=1597487147&sr=8-1

I'm going to be looking through this huge list for some books to order

It's still a bit of a dick response to someone talking about the book they edited, especially when it's the only response.

I read Women Love Wrestling a little while ago and enjoyed it. It's hit and miss, but that's to be expected with the sheer variety of writers. There's definitely some good stuff in there, and it's always interesting to read about perspectives different to your own.

    Thanks Chris

Exactly the right response. And thank you for reading the book. I'm happy you say its hit and miss, I refer to it as a bag of pick and mix sweets! We covered a lot, and some you may not like will have been liked by others, and vice versa. For just £5 you get 300 pages,  so if some did not work for you it's ok to move onto the next chapter.

    Your response is appreciated.

It was a pop at Foley for god sake. What happened to a sense of humour (albeit not great humour but still!)

It's almost like you guys have to moan about everything said thaat doesn't fit your view... How UKFF of you 😛

    Michael

Your 'joke' during a time of great review by the industry following #speakingout revealing huge amounts of abuse aimed at women wrestlers and fans was to imply a much loved and respected man would masturbate over a book that touched on a lot of the same themes and represents a minority group of fans.

You simply dismissed the book due to it being about women and insulted a legend who has done huge things to support women in the industry and raise money for related charities.

I have a sense of humour. The book has jokes and dark humour in some chapters about how bad it can be. But your attempt did not work.

You misfired greatly, revealed a lot about your character and should simply apologise and accept you need to do better. Please reflect on this.

Surprised foley didnt fap to it tbh. Send it back covered in Mickster jizz. Ergh.

What a surprise. This forum continues to be a dumpster fire full of the worst type of 'fans'.

    Grow up kid.

  7. I'm reading the Vader book right now. While not the best written as its basically Leon sitting there and telling the writer his story, in some ways that is nice change. It means it is less researched but it is his voice, and as a massive Vader fan its nice to hear it all clearly from his point of view. I'm just up to the huge push and launch of the Vader character in Japan and I am learning quite a bit about this period I did not know.

(in a seamless transition) Mick Foley does the foreword of the Vader book, and I've actually shared a few messages with Mick after I sent him a copy of my own book. I published Women Love Wrestling, an anthology with contributors covering the history of women in the sport, the current product and issues faced by female wrestlers and fans. Mick ended up tweeting his love for it a few times earlier this year and gave me a quote to promote the book - “Very well written, I am really enjoying it. I have been so impressed by the writers and their passion for the subject"

You can buy the book on Amazon, Apple etc for less than £5 with all info at https://womenlovewrestling.net/where-to-buy/ , and I am donating 100% of profits to RAINN and Women's Aid, so please check it out. Thanks.

  8. Thought I would drop my new podcast in here for any fans of women's wrestling and/or the UK indy scene.

Every week on 4 Horsewomen a new guest will reveal their stable of 4 badass women. These are their greatest of all time, picked from the all time history of the sport. Becky Lynch, Chyna and Bull Nakano led by Mildred Burke? Sure, why not.

Its a fun 30 minutes chat to explore the women in wrestling and female fandom. The first guest was EVE champion Rhia O'Reilly and we have a mix of wrestlers, writers and others joining each week for the next 2 months.

Hosted on https://anchor.fm/WLWrestling with links to iTunes, Spoify etc. are on https://linktr.ee/WLWrestling

  9. Obviously plugging my own podcast here, but I truly would love to hear suggestions from others about where to find really good writing writing. I mean proper academic studies and educated writers, not just some guy churning out weekly columns. It is really hard to find quality writing for wrestling like your see for acclaimed TV shows.

I recently interviewed Jacqui Pratt about her PhD on rhetoric and composition, which included a chapter on professional wrestling. Specifically she covered independent, hardcore, women's and intergender wrestling, using the famous Candice LaRae and Joey Ryan v Young Bucks match from PWG, crimson mask and all. This was used to combine all 4 topics and the role of each in the wider world of wrestling in 2019, and in particular the subject of kayfabe and mattering in WWE and AEW.

    Links to the show:

Feedback is welcomed on her work, this podcast and recommendations.

It’s one year away, but never too early to start planning!

And who better to kick off the topic than the UKFFs Tampa bay resident- me! I moved here from the UK in 2012 so can give any tips on flights, the area, lodging what to do etc.

On paper I think it’s gonna be an amazing location, the arena and convention center are a few blocks apart (and likely wrestlecon hotel) and there’s a cool river walk with bars, restaurants and the like a stumbling distance away for pre/post show festivities. The stadium is a few miles out, but obviously only going there once and it’s very cool with a freakin’ pirate ship.

After the disappointing lack of mania feel in NYC this should be cracking. See you all there!

Thats the one thing that I was disappointed with this year. After friends went on about the atmosphere of NOLA due to all the events being close together, in NYC it was spread out and I found there was only really a wrestling crowd in the bars around the Barclay Center, and then it was just a few specific bars.

Very tempted to go next year. Wondering the cost if do the main weekend then go check out Miami for a few days and then Bahamas, making it a true once in a lifetime trip.

  11. Just joining the people here that promote their own podcasts, but hopefully these are a little different as its all about being in New York for Mania and will be interesting if you wondered what it was like to be there. I think these will genuinely be of interest if you have never been, or wanted to compare your own experience.

We did one episode all about Wrestlemania Sunday, talking about getting to the event, the live experience, comparing it to watching on TV and what a 7.5 hour event feels like to attend.

    https://holyshoot.podbean.com/e/episode-22-the-one-where-we-discuss-being-at-wrestlemania-35/

We then followed up with an episode about the entire week to cover the fun you can have in New York while attending Axxess, Takeover, Wrestlecon, indy shows and the RAW after Mania. This included what the fans are like for the week, budgets to plan for and chatting to the likes of Matt Riddle and Nikki Cross. We seemed to be following Riddle around for 2 days.

Just search for Holy Shoot in whatever podcast app you use to find these are our other episodes.

  12. (plugging my own pod here, but truly proud of the latest episode)

Holy Shoot Wrestling Podcast recently sat down with Pro-Wrestling:EVE and Lucha Britannia performer Heather Von Bandenburg as part of our new interview series ‘Hit Like A Girl’.

Across this series we will be speaking to female wrestlers, fans & industry members as we attempt to change the misconception that women don’t like wrestling.

Heather told some great stories as we had a chat about wrestling and Unladylike, her upcoming book on feminism and wrestling.

Hopefully this is of interest here, and you can give it a listen. We have plans to interview more wrestlers, writers and fans over the coming months.

    Thanks!

The biggest accolade I can give Wrestle Me is that I can’t listen to it in public anymore as I look like a laughing lunatic when I do.

    The best podcast out there

Ok, You've won me over, I'll download this for my gym session today. It does sound good,

Haven’t bothered with the Something To Wrestle for a while but this one should be good...

I always enjoy Bruce and Conrad. This one was really fun as I knew less about Sid and the relationship he had with Vince. I recommend if you enjoyed this unique talent.

  15. I don't know how widely reaching they are but I always pop into The Entertainer toy store in Woking. They tend to have the hasbro classic style figures around £5 but also a lot of the legend and special ranges reduced as well.

They have around 140 stores but always seem to be shut on Sundays (owners proper old fashioned about it)

  16. It is ok to promote your own podcasts here? I co-host a show we record every week in London and we cover WWE, New Japan and the UK scene, and this week we recorded a really fun show people on this forum might enjoy.

We covered NXT UK Takeover and what Walter signing could mean, then we did a quick fire Royal Rumble feature with our top 30 rumble moments ever debated to see what would be crowned the greatest rumble moment of all time. I then did a really fun segment that I am proud of on the best music albums about wrestling by proper musicians (Mountain Goats, DJ Ran) as well as a look at some wrestler efforts (Cena, Hogan), all with clips to sample in what is quite high production.

The show is called Holy Shoot - https://holyshoot.podbean.com/
    iTunes: https://t.co/m46IjSNkju
    Spotify: https://t.co/YRMhW1QkOy

And all the usual podcast apps. If you do listen any feedback is welcome.

My personal recommendation to listen to would be Wade Keller Pro Wrestling Podcast/Post Show, he splits the feed into 2 show types and I always find this analysis to be the best in the business. He gets good guests sometimes in ex-writers and wrestlers.

Newest Talk is Jericho is all about how he signed with new Japan and AEW. It’s interesting but the lad is living in a fantasy land. He’s completely delusional about his own worth and accomplishments in wrestling.

I found the episode to be fascinating! He was very honest and he is not just making up the value he has. He has proven he is a draw based on the subs to New Japan, their ticket sales, selling out his own cruise and the buzz around him signing for any company. It think it is well worth a listen.
