  1. Been an odd Festival so far and a bookmakers' benefit - only the successes of Quevega and Sanctuiare have stopped it being an absolute bloodbath for punters. Master Minded never looked like winning at any point in the Queen Mother and the way things are going I wouldn't be at all surprised to see all 4 of the so-called 'bankers' (Dunguib, Master Minded, Big Buck's and Kauto Star) lose.

The horse to take out of today was Peddlers Cross - this one looks an absolute monster and barring injury could be a force for years to come - if you're wanting to dip your toe into the markets for next year's Festival he's the one you should be doing so with - probably a World Hurdle horse for which he's quoted at 14/1 with Stan James.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, Alfie Sherrin is many people's idea of a good thing in the Pertemps, I personally think Karabak could bustle up Big Buck's.

  2. Anyone been having a bet at Royal Ascot this week? I had Electrocutionist yesterday but was collared on the line by Ouija Board (a horse who has now cost me well into triple figures one way or another in the last Three years..) but made up for it by having Akona Matata e/w at 20/1 in the big handicap. Today I had Sergeant Cecil which was well beaten and Regal Royale which came Fifth - shame I'd backed it to come in first 4 - damn tight bookies!

I fancy a real card-fest in tonight's Croats/Aussies game [Yellow = 10pts and Red = 25pts] Blue Square go 10/11 70+ points (It was Evens at lunch-time when I looked) Sporting Odds go 11/8 80+ and for a real bloodbath Paddy Power go 85+ points 6/5. The value if you look closely is with Sporting Odds so I'd have a punt at 11/8 if you can still get it by the time you read this!

  3. I couldn't pick a winner even after the race has finished at the moment. Planning on doing some serious trading on Betfair through the World Cup. I fancy there to be a lot of high-scoring games.

  4. Was going to post my tips for the French Guineas' today but racing has been cancelled at Longchamp due to workers from the PMU (the French equivalent of our Tote) not only going on strike but staging a sit-in on the racecourse and then, when officials announced racing would go ahead without betting, barracaded the jockeys in their locker room..

  5. Some nice racing from both games today. Having a go with this little lot:Newbury 2:10 - Laying MaraahelNewbury 2:40 - Laying the favourite if 5/1 or under. Backing Babiano e/w if 10/1 or above.Ayr 2:50 - Laying FaaselAyr 3:30 - e/w bets on Halcon Genelardais and/or Ladalko if 10/1 or above.Newbury 3:50 - Backing Reve Lunaire

  6. On a somewhat similar note, for all you snooker fans out there, theres was a similar result in the first round of the world championships. Higgans was punted down to near 1.10 for his match against Selby, but then lost. Bet alot of people lost a lot of cash on that.

Interesting you bring that up, I for one was going to have a punt on Higgins before the start of play yesterday thinking that even at 6-3 down he had to be worth a small punt at what I thought would be a big price. His odds however? Still 6/4 despite Selby (who himself in hindsight was available at a laughable 10/11 at that point) only had to win another four frames. One of the things I have learnt punting all these years is no matter how good you think a bet is if there is no value in betting on it don't bother as there is always the risk there - that is why it is called a gamble folks - suppose that could be said for the Man Utd/Sunderland thing too but to put the money you essentially have to live on for the next three months on a football match with little meaning (Man Utd wouldn't catch Chelsea and Blunderland were already down) is idiotic and the lad in question deserves everything (or nothing) that he will no doubt get..
  7. Even though reading what youve won after the event has happened is nice, this topic would be much better off if you post your selections beforehand. That way some other people might be able to make a little bit of cash. Also helps to point out some good value bets!

Fair comment but see 42 pages above for loads of pre-game selections so to speak! I'll merge the Grand National thread into this one as well as there were several UKFF'rs that tipped the winner numbersixvalverde (11/1)For the record I find OddsChecker an absolute godssend when betting online to find the best price. Don't forget to look around for introductory offers though before opening new accounts with anyone - try here!
  8. Good work gamblers keep bashing this bookies! Must be something in the water I had a good day today with 3 goals + in the Birmingham derby coming up nicely at 13/8.The flat racing season starts proper this season with the Craven meeting at Newmarket - my tip would be to stick with the horses that already have runs under their belt recently as punting based on "insider tips from the yards" or horses' work on the gallops can only lead to the poor house.

  9. Morning gamblers!

It's going to be bottomless at Redcar for the Lincoln cavalry charge so pick your favourite number/colours/whatever and just hope for the best. I'm still waiting for someone on Betfair to take my place lay on Gentleman's Deal and it's stablemate Blue Spinnaker has a better chance each-way.

Theres some glorious action in the land where they can't bet to finish off the Dubai Carnival. Godolphin were shy on the chances of Discreet Cat being able to beat the unbeaten Simpatico Bribon but the boys in Blue would hate to lose here.Oracle West which has already beaten a lot of the field in the Sheema Classic (3:55) is worth a bet to nothing each-way, the signs are good for Ouija Board.

    Have a profitable day folks!

  10. The Flat Season begins on Saturday - hoorah!

While I make more money during the Winter you can't beat a good day out or Ten at the races on a sunny day. Would anyone be interested in a UKFF jolly out to York Races one day this Summer?

On the betting front I'd normally be opposing ELECTROCUTIONIST in the Dubai World Cup on account of the dreadful price and bad draw the horse has been handed today but there looks to be little else in the race. The recent Godolphin purchase DISCREET CAT is something else in the UAE Derby.

One horse I will be laying in the Lincoln on Saturday is GENTLEMENS DEAL who my source tells me today has a gammy leg but will run anyway.

Today saw the release of a new sports and racing betting paper 'The Sportsman' which will rival the Racing Post - has anyone got it and what do they think of it?
