  1. Flair however, not even comparable. He's an old rock star, lived a life that would be as foreign to today's roster as much as it is to us. It'd be odd to consider him ending up any other way, apart from possibly dead. Flair's like Oliver Reed, Richard Harris or any old hellraiser. Probably a fucking nightmare to live or work with but the star of hundreds of amazing stories & a genuine character.

I can kind of see what you are getting at in terms of womanising and drinking, but...please do not compare Ric Flair to the great Richard Harris ever again.

  2. Wow, that was pretty perfect. My knuckles were turning white throughout that episode. I mean, Joffrey is a delightful villain. He's probably the most detestable antagonist I've ever seen in any film or TV show, but this episode was becoming "testing my patience with the show" level of annoyance. And then it happened.

As someone who doesn't read the books, I managed to remain unspoiled so it was a great moment. I enjoyed Cersei Lannister weeping over Joffrey's corpse. There is absolutely NO reason to feel any sympathy for her at all, is there?

Can't wait for next week's episode. It had better be an immediate follow on from the events of this one. I don't think I can take one more ponderous Daenerys Targaryen scene in the never ending desert after this has just happened.

  3. I thank the good Lord (see; Matt Smith, most likely) that you appear to be very solidly in the minority. Critically, it seems to be their most successful in a while, and its done well with the audience. I'm glad.

I'm not for one minute seeing you are one of them, but the second the Russell T Davies/Tennant mob seem to be winning the argument I'm going to start doing some genocide.

It was an unadulterated pile of shite. I am a casual Doctor Who fan and hated it. I wish Moffat and Gatiss would just concentrate on the infinitely superior Sherlock.

  4. Am I completely imagining this or was Vince's promo revealing he was bringing in the nWo done on Smackdown? I might be completely wrong but I miss having a reason to watch SD.

I just watched the promo again and Vince has a plaster on his forehead. What a guy.

  5. I just meant in terms of profile in their respective worlds. Nowadays, the news is rarely good when you hear about Flair and it's definitely not good when you hear about Gazza. Both have also made some really poor decisions in their lives and deserve blame for their problems but have also been let down by those surrounding them. In the grand scheme of things, Ric is obviously not in as bad a state as Gazza considering he's about 20 years older than him.

  6. Is Puerto Rico a good place to work nowadays? I've just finished watching a Dean Ambrose shoot from his Jon Moxley days where he says he had a whale of a time on drugs and all that but lost out on a lot of money that was owed to him. I understand Carlito probably makes a fair bit from being his father's son but does anyone else get good money out there? Are there any decent promotions out that way?

My interest led me to some piece written by Dutch Mantel about Bruiser Brody's murder. Is it a safer country to work in now?

  7. Dunno if this is a topic that has ever been discussed on here - but what do people think about the possibility of Jim Johnston going into the WWE Hall of Fame someday? There's a feature about him on WWE.com just now and it got me thinking. Would it ever happen?

    Personally, I think he should.

  8. Don't remember the crisps at all but am I imagining WWF chocolate cigarettes? Pretty sure it was the likes of Hogan, Warrior, Undertaker, Jake Roberts and Big Bossman on the packets.

No you aren't. They tasted like cardboard. There was also WWF multi-coloured jellies in the shape the wrestlers. I also remember a tube of jelly beans with half a WWF wrestling toy on top of it and when you take him off you eat the sweats. I also used to buy the mini WWF cards with free chewies in them from the video shop. WWF had all kinds of stuff in this country in 92. There was a huge surge of popularity.

Did the jellies come in individually wrapped little packet things? I think I remember them and I'm fairly certain they were vile. I think you could get Ghostbusters ones that were the same idea.

  9. I think if they were really going to end the streak, the last plausible contender was Orton at WrestleMania 21. They got cold feet then, so I don't see who would realistically step up to the plate in the time Undertaker has left. I might be wrong, but I don't see him as the kind of guy who would be on his knees, crying, shouting "DO IT! END IT!" or something.

  10. To me, the crowing from certain pockets of fans that "*insert wrestler* NEEDS to end the streak" is just another way of saying "look how great my fantasy booking is". It has happened with Randy Orton, Batista, John Cena, CM Punk - an argument will be made for ANY given wrestler at that certain point in time given their position on the card is appropriate.

I think time and fan reaction has shown that the majority don't want the streak to end, so we can all stop falling over ourselves looking at ways why the streak "HAS" to end.

  11. Aren't you always on about how much money Hogan brought in? Buyrates? House gates? It's usually a method you use to quash arguments, so I'm just pointing out the obvious. Yes, Austin battered Debra. But he went to jail for it and served time. That's why we have a judicial system.

  12. Austin has made mistakes, but at least he is loaded. I'm sure he wasn't the first wrestler to beat up women and he probably wasn't the last. In his retirement, he has the luxury of picking and choosing his dates and seems to have found a bit of peace and quiet. He's enjoying himself. It's funny you should accuse Michaels' behaviour of being born out of having thin skin concerning Hogan when he was the one on the TV crying about being skint, having the gun in his mouth and being made a cuckold by a 20 year old. Hogan should have it all, but it's only now he's getting it back. For every "artistic working" of Shawn Michaels there is having to do a shite celebrity wrestling show on ITV to keep creditors at bay.
