  1. I’m not convinced he’ll be in WWE by Survivor Series. But if he’s coming in to wrestle at all, presumably it’s for the Rumble to Wrestlemania stretch?

The thing is, even if he is talking up Triple H, or trying to make amends with the company as a whole, they surely couldn’t have him wrestling many matches. In the last 18 months he’s been World Champion twice, and managed to get himself injured instantly – also twice. Aside from who he might be backstage, his body just doesn’t seem capable of doing anything other than a really part time schedule.

I agree with those that have mentioned him being in the Hall Of Fame. Have him come back, pose awkwardly backstage with Vince and Triple H, do his speech, turn up on the stage the next day at Wrestlemania, have tears in his eyes as the fans chant “one more match”, then leave it there.

Having said all of that, the Doctor that was at the centre of that lawsuit has long since left WWE, so Punk will probably be back shortly!

Also – and I know this thread isn’t about him – but what happens to Jack Perry? Is he going to be fired too?

  2. Brilliant experience, had a great time. I wanted to mention a few highlights of mine:

I’d been hoping for something – anything – from Jeff Jarrett on this show, so when his music hit I went mad. I think I was the only person cheering for him in my section, but that segment was one of my favourite parts of the show.

Samoa Joe appeared to be having the time of his life. I was a little confused about this one though. Is Punk still being recognised as a champion? I could’ve sworn his belt was held up before the match.

FTR v Young Bucks was a belter, and one where it felt really difficult to predict a winner. Not sure who FTR face next after this though.

I missed the spot with the skewers as I’d gone to get drinks, but the reaction of people coming down the steps to the kiosks suggested that I’m glad I missed that bit. Rest of the match was great, particularly laughed at Kingston flipping off Moxley at the end of the match!

Christian constantly wearing the TNT belt will never not be funny, and I was delighted when he was added to the match last week. But Sting’s video on the screen, his Joker make up, and then that song... best part of the night for me. Some of the crowd behind me were seemingly appalled that he’s wrestling and not collecting a pension, which evolved into a debate about what age he would be able to claim his pension. I think a few people were flagging at this point.

First time seeing Chris Jericho, and although it was probably a decade too late, it was still Chris Jericho. I thought he did his best, but struggled to keep up with Ospreay.

When Roderick Strong left the ring the first time, he went stomping up the ramp, and even from what felt like half a mile away, he did a good impression of someone having a strop. The main event as a whole was really good, it felt for the first time that Adam Cole deserved to be in it.

The fan reactions to everyone and everything were what helped this to stand out. Even when Don Callis appeared briefly on the screen, he was getting shit from the whole stadium. That and when they tried shilling Fulham tickets in the pre-show. Great stuff.

It’s been about 5 years, maybe longer, since I’ve been to live wrestling, and as the evening wore on, I started to remember why. I was up in 523, and by about 8:30 it was a wreck. People falling up the stairs with alcohol, launching pint pots toward the ring (ultimately only sailing 4 rows), the smell of vapes, cigarettes, and BO (at best). My row seemed to suffer from collective incontinence based on the amount of times they got up. I’ve also completely gone off LA Knight.

Nevertheless, by the time I got off the tube, I’ve already booked hotels for next year. I’d be amazed if they get a similar sized crowd, but either way, I’ll be in it.

  3. WestCoastPop619 - I've had a couple of the Kernel pale ales, which are nice enough, but for me their best ones are the Brown Ale and Imperial Stout. The range of ales they distribute seems to change quite a lot, so I don't think I've been able to try anything more than once. But if you can, definitely get the brown ale.

  4. Once again, thank you Cheesy Peas....

    Session on!

    Glad I could help.

Seen a couple of people in here mention Timothy Taylor's Landlord as a favourite. i don't know whether I've had a bad pint 10 times in a row, but I can't stand it, despite it being recommended in seemingly every village pub in the Peak District. It always seems to taste a bit past it's best, or like it's just too flat, even for an ale.

My favourite beer from a few years ago was Mansfield - the website says it's brewed by Marstons, but I'm not convinced it always has been. It was always the ale of choice in the Racehorse in Northampton, because it was only

  5. I find any chili flavoured beer equally repulsive. There was one in particular that had a chili in the bottle that was absolutely disgusting. The other completely undrinkable beer I've had is reasonably respected I think but tasted like pepporoni. It was meant to be a smoked beer but the strong meat taste was disguting.

    Anyone had it?

Yeah, I've had Schlenkerla. They serve it in the Devonshire Cat in Sheffield. After an initial aroma of Walkers Smoky Bacon, I found it quite bland. I tried Piwo Grodziskie when in Berlin, that was a much less smoky taste.

  6. Is the Brewdog pub in Manchester any good? I've not been over for months so haven't been able to try it. Do they only serve their own beers, or do they have others on as well?

It's minimalistic. The stools are very uncomfortable if you don't get a table. But otherwise it's great if you just go with friends to chat and enjoy the beer. There are seldom loud, raucous groups of dickheads or at least not when I've been, but the place is reassuringly busy. There are other beers available but I've not noticed if there are other ales or just the bog-standard selection of rubbish lagers/ciders/John Smiths or similar. My eyes are automatically drawn to the overhead blackboards to see which ones of their beers are on at the time.

Cheers, thanks for the info, will try it next time I'm over. Sounds similar to 57 Thomas Street on, err, Thomas Street near Afflecks Palace. One long bench and a couple of chairs, Marble Brewery beers served. Capacity of about 10.

  7. In London I've taken to drinking in the Euston Tap and the Cider Tap when I'm down there and it's become my favourite pub(s) away from home, anyone drink there?

Check out the Dolric Arch, which is literally across the way from the Euston Tap. Regularly gets in guest ales, and is honestly one of my favourite pubs in London. Also, if you're around North London, keep an eye out for Redemption Hopspur, which is a really nice amber ale. I'm usually a fan of wheat beers and pale ales, though.

I've walked past the Dorich arch loads of times but never ventured inside, will do next week.

I'd also try the Bree Louise if you're in that part of London. It's like a never-ending beer festival. 8 pumps and 12 'festival' barrels every time I've been in. Just turn right out of Euston station, you'll find it down a side street.

  8. After seeing Kent Brockman, just after winning the lottery, reading the news in a fur coat:

Homer: Well, he's got all the money in the world, but there's one thing he can't buy.

    Marge: What's that?

    Homer: [thinks] A dinosaur!

  9. TV ANNOUNCER

Now stay tuned for professional wrestling live from Springfield Grappelarium. Tonight a Texas death match: Dr. Hillbilly versus the Iron Yuppie. One man will actually be unmasked and killed in the ring!

    HOMER

I hope they kill that Iron Yuppie. Thinks he's so big.
