  1. Is Ricky Starks a heel or face? Cos if he's a heel (which I believe he is the match is 'next week' etc) then why is he slapping hands with fans on the way out? Heels make money and AEW desperately need more of them. One promo from Christian and he's number 1 heel. Lucha had great potential as a monster heel (is he face again?) and Jade was playing full babyface this week again.

  2. A unknown fact people may not know is that the UK version of No Mercy 2007 DVD is edited. I think it is this one; it's HHH vs. Orton in two out of three falls. The BBFC would not pass this. There is a part of the match where there is a hanging with a bullrope. I sent the edit list to WWE thinking there would be this massive jump cut and we would get so many complaints. It was an amazing edit, I didn't even see it. And we got no complaints!

  3. My favourite part of working at silver vision was actually creating match lists for our smaller titles in Italy and France that were sold in kiosks. We would pick a wrestler that was hot at the time and create a 90 main selection of his matches and release on dvd. I would create the list and send it to wwe for approval. I knew we couldn't use Benoit and for a long time no lesnar on matches and had to be wwe not wwf but most of my matches were approved. They were very popular and the UK released a lot of them later. After the bios ran out we did a 'best of' selection. We did a best of smaackdown which was the very first smackdown DVD ever released and the first time that big show lesnar ring break was ever released. The best of raw included the Shelton HBK match for the first time. There were supposed to be around eight more of which I had named like raw carnage (hardcore matches from raw) but the line was dropped. For the avid collectors there was a leaflet inside some of the dvds listing the upcoming titles that were never made. I used to look on here and people would slag off the match lists which was funny. It was also fun to source the extras for these titles and live in the UK.

  4. I remember winning tickets via silver vision to insurrextion 2002. I ended up sitting next to the owner of silver vision. I chewed his ear off all night with questions. Fast forward three years I'm in an interview with him for a job!

  5. Stephen passing was a very sad day for the company. I also loved his road stories. He said once Kennedy got drunk and abusive in a hotel and wanted to fight a fan and Benoit dragged him off and put him to bed. Flair was very cocky and unlikeable according to Stephen. He disliked him so much despite having tickets for his hall of fame induction he didn't go. Cena is super cool apparently and can drink a shit load of Jack Daniels. My favourite story he told me was that he was in the allocated wwe hotel and heard a lot of noise in the hall. When he opened the door he seen an attractive young female fan in full goldust attire. Go Dustin!

  6. Just spotted this thread. I am also a former employee of silver vision. It was my first proper job out of uni and although it took me 1hr 20 to get in every day was worth it. As a life long wrestling fan it was a dream job. I worked in production so had a slightly different experience to the other guys. Some notes on tagged classics... When I started they were on a break so I re-structured the release schedule so we could get every ppv out up till the wwe change asap. I would get a vhs out of the library (the dreamy place linked in first post) and spin through and check for countdowns or extra WWF home video exclusives. If there was a countdown it would be on a separate master so I would go to the master library (held off site) and dig around for it. The only tagged classic that had a countdown on the original release but not on tagged classic was wm 11. We just didn't have the tape. That was very annoying. Once the master tape was encoded I would get a DVD check disc and watch it. Oh yes paid to watch classic WWF. I would be checking the quality though which is different from sitting on your couch enjoying it. There were a lot of technical errors but there was no option not to release so we did our best to encode to the highest level. The very worst master was surprisingly summerslam 1998. The picture quality was very poor. The tapes were looked after very well it was extremely important but I don't know what happened to this one. We had a back up DVD so managed to release that one with an acceptable standard of quality. The thought of collectors having a giant hole in their collection was a disaster for me. The menus changed when we changed DVD authors. All menus had to be sent to wwe for approval. Some of the extras from the 2001 releases we did not have masters for either. However with a bit of technical giggery we got them on there. If a non wrestling fan was running this process they wouldn't care about countdowns or extras. Glad to read people love these releases as I loved working on them. Will send more notes out soon.

  7. Still one of my favourite returns - Undertaker at Judgment Day 2000. I didn't much like The American Bad-Ass character in the long rung but here, with the hot crowd and the creepy '....he's here!' it still gives me chills as a fantastic return/debut of a new gimmick.

What a crowd reaction! Bigger than I rememeber. HBK screws up the ending a bit though, should have called for the bell earlier.

  8.

This was cool, thanks for posting.

Did you hear Jerry Lawler going 'Say Goodnight' when someone asked for an autograph. If you ever watch those off-camera audio clips on youtube he really treats wrestling fans with contempt and this proves it again. Perhaps since his heart attack he's a changed man but still no need for it.

  9.

Brock Lesnar v Rob Van Dam from Vengeance 2002. I'd forgotten what an absolutely superb match this is, great stuff after the match as well. Probably my favourite RVD match.

Perfect example of two guys who work snug, and appreciate working snug.

The more things change, the more things stay the same. If that match was on the next PPV you'd book it the same and it would make sense

  10. Looks like an attention seeking tactic to me. Okerlund was terrible for that in WCW. He'd just take the microphone away from some wrestlers mouths and started disagreeing or he'd pull some funny face as the wrestler was making their point. Bobby Heenan would do it as well. I remember once he tried to leave the announce desk when the nWo showed up and he pretended to get his foot caught in the wires and they just stood about waiting for him to leave.

Prob more of a rib to get someone backstage to laugh
