Son of a gun, you learn something new every day. A bit off-topic but I never knew that the woman who ruined My Name Is Earl for me was Arnie's (Matrix) little daughter in Commando.

Back on topic, I'd like to think that Paul Heyman, James Belushi, Larry Zbysko and Bill Murray all have the same father.

  2. Incidentally I hear a lot of people say that "Heenan ruined the surprise" with his line of "Who's side is he on?" That's utter bollocks spouted by people that in my experience only saw Bash At The Beach 96 many many years later with the benefit of hindsight and used to the idea of Hogan or pretty much anyone being a heel. Watching him be "bad" on Nitro was utterly incredible and surreal at the time, and while I won't pretend to have watched the Bash live (impossible in this country at the time, after all), some of the Yanks that I've spoken to who did dismissed it as a throwaway line, just "The Brain being The Brain" as he had disparaged Hogan's character for years. They were gobsmacked, and watching it the first time a couple of years even after the show first aired, so was I.

Absolutely. That the line has been edited off certain dvd releases is ridiculous.

For possibly the only time in history Dusty gave the perfectly logical response on commentary as it was unthinkable that Hogan would be on their side.

I also would add that I think some people say Heenan ruined the surprise as a way of backing up the "Heenan didn't give a fuck in WCW argument".

I'm sure there was a story going around at the time that Heenan said that unaware that Hogan was turning heel.

I'm not sure how accurate that it is but it's certainly a possibility. Lawler in his book describes how he always avoided booking meetings, wishing not to know what he was about to call. And based on interviews (including Kevin Sullivan) there weren't many people who knew that Hogan was even in the building, yet alone turning heel.

  3. Unless i'm mistaken, would i be correct in thinking that the following "Dream Matches" have never happened in singles competition.Kenta Kobashi Vs Genichiro TenryuKenta Kobashi Vs Keiji Muto/Great MutaMitsuharu Misawa Vs Kensuke SasakiMitsuharu Misawa Vs Genichiro TenryuMitsuharu Misawa Vs Keiji Muto/Great Muta

I am pretty sure that none of those matches have taken place (except for the Tiger Mask match), although Misaswa vs Tenryu and Kobashi vs Tenryu would probably have taken place if AJPW had held Champion Carnivals in the late 80's and certainly would have done if Tenryu hadn't left AJPW in 1990.
  4. I was wondering what happened to Dick Slater? He got charged with murder of his girlfriend back in 2003 but I never heard how it turned out. Anyone know?

Off topic but I am so glad that Vince Russo was nowhere the wrestling business in '91. Scott Steiner getting severely injured by two big Dicks would have obviously seen an early debut of the Johnsons. :(
  5. Nope you are wrong apparently

NON-TELEVISED MATCHES: Diamond Dallas Page defeated Dave Sullivan.. The American Males (Marcus Bagwell & Scotty Riggs) defeated The Blue Bloods (Steven Regal & Robert Eaton).. Badd (WCW) defeated Masa Saito (NJ) by Disqualification.. Shinjiro Ohtani (NJ) defeated Eddie Guerrero (WCW).. Randy Savage (WCW) defeated Hiroyoshi Tenzan (NJ).. Sting (WCW) defeated Kensuke Sasaki (NJ).. WORLD CUP RESULTS: WCW defeated New Japan Pro Wrestling 4-3. TRIANGLE MATCH: Ric Flair defeated Lex Luger and Sting by Count Out.. WORLD TITLE MATCH: Ric Flair defeated Randy Savage to win the title! UNITED STATES TITLE MATCH: One Man Gang defeated Kensuke Sasaki to win the title!! As shown on Television, One Man Gang defeated Kensuki Sasaki to win the title! In the arena, the match continued after a controversial pin and ended with Sasaki pinning OMG to retain.. FADE TO BLACK....

The One Man Gang vs Kensuke Sasaki match and title change was last on the card but wasn't shown on the PPV. It was taped and later shown on one of the TV shows (I can't remember which).
That was a tremendous card. One Man Gang winning the US Title was always rather weird to me. Seemed to me that they threw out any random guy they could and gave him the belt. Who eventually beat OMG for it?

You made a couple of mistakes which I have corrected.Come on, you didn't honestly think that the One Man Gang and Kensuke Sasaki headlined WCW's biggest card of 1995 did you? ;)
  8. Has Sean Waltman ever wrestled Rob Van Dam?

Yes. Don't know how often, but im sure they opened the show at a Glasgow house show at the secc back in April 2002. Don't know if they ever had a match on tv though.
I am amazed that these two have never had a TV or taped match considering they are about the same age and have very similar gimmicks (their martial arts influenced offence, not to mention their love of the weed) but thinking about it when Sean was in NJPW, Rob was in AJPW and when Sean was criss-crossing between WWF & WCW, Rob was in ECW. Have they even been in the same promotion together apart from 2001 WWF? This match has suddenly entered my 'dream match' list, even if it is nearly 10 years too late.
  9. Just a Michael Hayes question here..I read somewhere that he is a former US Champion. When did this happen and at what PPV did it happen and who did he beat?I thought of another question....What was the main event for WCW Uncensored 1997? I've seen the pre-match video but still don't quite get it. Cheers.

Hayes defeated Lex Luger at Music City Showdown (07/05/89) for the US title on the same card that Steamboat defeated Flair for the NWA World title. The reign only lasted about a fortnight.Uncensored '97 was the nWo (Hogan, Hall, Nash & Savage) vs WCW (Luger, the Giant & the Steiners) vs Team Piper ((Piper, Jarrett, Benoit & McMichael). Don't worry about not getting it, I doubt the competitors or even the bookers did.
Was it like a three-way tag match or a War Games like match? Thanks for the info brah.
A mixture. Three way tag match - a new set of competitors every 2 mins - ie NWO member, WCW Member then Team Piper member. So it's kinda like Wargames in that sense. But it's elimination match, and there's obviously no cages and 1 ring. It sounds truly terrible, but it isn't actually that bad. A clusterfuck, but not a bad one. Each team had (stupid) stipulations which would occur if they won(if WCW won NWO would have to disband for 36 months etc etc).
The NWO's winning stipulation was that any NWO wrestler could command any WCW title shot whenever they pleased. :bored:

  11. Who was the third man in an early Monday Night Raw commentary team. He was with Macha Man Randy Savage and Vince McMahon with a goatee...

The man in question is Bob Barrent. A deeply unfunny comic from the New York area.
What, Bob Barnett the lawyer, Japanese tape trader and UKFFer used to commentate on Monday Night RAW?I think you meant Rob Bartlett. ;)
  12. is axe of demolition fame still alive and if so any recent pics i ask cause i saw a pick about five years ago and he looked golse to andre the giant in size so i'll be suprised if he is still going

He's still alive, he's made appearances at a few of those wrestling legend conventions. He must be about 60-something by now.
    no pics
i take it u dont have any recent pics of axe (demolition) then also what is his real name
    Bill Eadie
  13. Seen as I was just wondering.Do the WWE hold the copyright to the "Dudley" name? Can the "Dudleys" be called that name in other circuits? Cheers

Apparently Bubba and D-Von can continue to use the Dudley name as Paul Heyman gave them the rights to it when they left ECW to go to the WWF as a thank you for everything they had done for the company. However Spike will not be able to use the Dudley name and there is even talk that WWE lawyers may attempt to stop Bubba and D-Von using the name as well. So it's pretty much up in the air at the moment.
  14. This is probably a question that only Lister and a few others here have a chance of answering but does anyone remember a WWF game that was relaeased in 1990(?) which seemed more of a strategy game than the usual 'beat-em-up' wrestling games that are out there? I have no idea what format it was released on but I just remember the advert in WWF magazine where you seemed to book the matches and then watch 'play-by-play' commentary and screenshot images of the matches. I was totally fascinated by the whole concept but never got to play, or even see, it.

If anything it sounds like one of those VHS board games that were popular in the early 90's where you had to press play whenever someone landed on a certain square. Never heard of a WWF one but there seemed to be very little they didn't release back then, so it's more than possible.
No, it definitely was a 'computer' game. Like I said I have no idea what format that it was released on (PC? - too early?) but I am certain that it was never available in this country. I just recall the advert in WWF magaizine around the time of WrestleMania VI.
  15. I actually posted this in the 'wrestling strategy game' thread but I am pretty sure it will get lost in there and would genuinely like to find out some more information about the game:

  16. What's the difference between 'play-by-play' and 'colour' commentary?

The play-by-play commentator will announce the action in a technical, sport-like style, describing each move in a way to get the psychology and tatical storyline of the match over. The color commentator will add personal insight, humour and, quite commonly, a heel argumentative point of view.In football comparison terms think of Sky's play-by-play commentator Martin Tyler (a Jim Ross, Gordon Solie or Lance Russell) and color man Andy Gray (a Jesse Ventura, Jerry Lawler or Bobby Heenan).Of course, sometimes you get cross-overs like Joey Styles (or in footy terms, when he is alone, Motty).
  17. Is there a reason why Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair didn't make any sort of appearance at Fall Brawl '94? I know they were saving the rematch for a "special occasion" but as the promotion was structured around them two at that point, the fact that they didn't appear seemed strange. Then again, it's such decisions that led WCW to their current home - part of the WWE video library.

I believe that Hogan's WCW contract entitled him to a %cut of any PPV he appeared on. As Fall Brawl was already quite loaded (Vader/Sting/Bubba in a 'triangle' match and a War Games match) and they were building big to the Hogan-Flair re-match at Havoc the following month, a Hogan appearence would have cost WCW much more than the extra it would have made. I have no idea why Flair did not make an appearence other than what really could he have done.
  18. There was a big thing in Powerslam/SOW years ago about who played Battle Kat. I'm pretty sure the final word was that someone other than Brady Boone did it for a while as well. I can't remember who that someone was, though.

I think it was Bob Bradley who also played the Kat.Does anyone know where I could find the photograph/poster of Kerry Von Erich (w/ a glass of milk) and Michael Hayes (w/ a bottle of Jack Daniels) from WCCW in the early/mid 80's after Hayes had turned babyface? It just sounds so damn cool.
  19. Anyone know anything about the Awesomg Kongs (managed by Harley Race) Cole Twins or Thunder and Lightning.

They were briefly bought in during a period when WCW wanted their tag teams members to look just like each other, regardless of talent (Kongs, Thunder & Lightning, Cole Twins, Harlem Heat, Slazenger & Pierce, Nasty Boys, Cactus & Maxx Payne, etc). Although that doesn't explain Marcus Bagwell and Too Cold Scorpio. ;)
